Default Your Pronunciation of Dragonlance Names

Thanks to hearing how Tracy Hickman pronounces Kharas during the Dragonhearth Podcast I have been lately thinking a great deal on how I pronounce all things Dragonlance. Then to hear Margaret in her Podcast interveiw pronounce Zeboim and Atta.... Well I was surprised.

I would like to hear how everyone pronounces various dragonlance names? Let me just add that I don't think there is a correct pronunciation, that whatever works for you, should continue to work for you. That said here are a few of mine, -

Huma - Hugh (the name) / Ma (as in in your your mum)
    Laurana - law / rain / are
Kharas - ca (the start of carrot) / rass (rhymes witth mass)
Raistlin - raste (rhymes with paste and waste) / Lyn (the name)
Majere - Ma (as in in your your mum) / jeer
    Kitiara - kitty / are / uh
Caramon - care / ah / mon (rhymes with Don)
Atta - At / ta (Atta boy)
    Rhys - Reece
Tyorl - out of resignation, I just went with a silent "y". "tall" basically.
Neraka - ne (the start of neck) / ra (as in the Egyptian god) / car (as in vroom, vroom)

I'll add more as they come to me. So what are yours?
Only one thing worse than a dragon, Americans - Creedy, Reign of Fire
Founder of the Raistlin Stole Fistandantilus' Glory Association
Founding member of the Pro-Nancy Varian Berberick Association
Change is neither good nor evil, it just is. Inevitable.
    I'm a bad boy - Lou Costello
Dragonhelm is a thief, he stole my title

I agree with some of those, but I pronounce some very different.

    Laurana- Lor/ ann / ah
    Raistlin- rast/ ch-lin
Majere- This one is hard to explain, Maj(as in the game Majhong)/ ray
    Rhys- the word rice

the rest I pronounce the same, hope those make since!

Well, for my pronounce of the gods, here is a nexus entry.
    http://www.dlnexus.com/features/articles/13578.aspx

Then there's the ones in the Holy order of Stars Gamebook.

And i guess there's a few threads on this at:
    http://www.dragonlanceforums.com/for...ead.php?t=4621

As for differences with yours, darcwulf, I pronounce:
    Laurana - laurr /rrah / na
    Neraka - nr / ray / cah
    Majere - May / jeer

you know... we should collect a large list of the many ways we pronounce proper names. Not because there's a right or wrong way of spelling, but to imagine the variations. I personally would like to see dragonlance characters may very their language.

Kender: which god do you worship.

    Monk: Majere.

Kender: you were in the military?

    Monk: no. Majere. Majere.

Kender: your superior officer must have been a really nice guy, but he's just a guy. Which god do you worship?

    Ariakan - R. / E. / A. / Can
Atta - At / ah (Atta boy)
Beldyn - Bell (ding dong) / din (ner time!)
Caramon - care / ah / mon (rhymes with Don)*
    * Accent issue. I actually say it so it more sounds like: care / ah / mun (like the start of 'Monday').
Carteeg Struve - Car (automobile) / teej (almost sounds like teesh) / Stroov (the 'oo' is pronounced like 'Boo!' from a ghost)
Coryn - Cor (Apple core) / rin (sounds like a 'rim')
Dalamar - Dal (Like 'Gal') / ah (open up and say) / mar (like Mark without the 'k')
Dragonlance - Drag (Dalamar's private dressing practice) / on (or off) / lance (Henriksen)
Fistandantilus - Fihs (punching thing without the 't') / tan (the color) / dahn (like 'Dan' except it sounds more like an 'ahn' instead of 'anne') / til (part of a cash register) / lus (like 'lust' w/o the 't')
Goldmoon - Ooo...errr..... hrmm... I don't think I've ever been able to pronounce this one correctly.
Huma - Hugh (the name) / Ma (as in your mum)
    Jaymes - Exactly like 'James'
Jenna - Jenn (the name) / ah (although my accent makes it more like 'uh')
Kharas - car (the automobile) / rahs
    Kitiara - kitty / are / ah
    Laurana - law / rahn / ahhh
Majere - Ma (as in in your your mum) / jeer
Lunitari - Loon (the bird) / ih (short i) / tar (tar cf pantheon.tar *.god) / ri (like the first syllabol in 'rehi')
Maladar - Like 'Dalamar', but with minor dyslexia.
Neraka - ne (the start of neck) / ra (as in the Egyptian god) / cah (if said twice you get what comes out of a baby's backend)
Nuitari - Neoo (Sounds like 'new' with the 'e' separated a little from the 'oo' sound) / ih (like 'ick' without the 'ck') / tar (Oooo...STICKY!) / ee (like 'eek' without the 'k')
Odila - Oh (Oh Suzanna. Don't you cry for me.) / deal (Just 'deal' with it) / La (Which brings us back to Do, a dear, a female dear)
Paladine - Pal (Buddy!) / ah (Open up and say) / Dine (with me in the dining hall)
Palin - Pay Lynn (up at the cash register) (Just like Michael Palin.)
Raistlin - raste (rhymes with paste and waste) / Lyn (the name)*
*Accent issue again. I tend to mute the 't' to the point where it almost sounds like I'm saying "Race (110m Hurdles) / Lyn (the name)"
Reorx - Rorx (Mountain lion's "roar" with a "ks" at the end)
Rhys - Reece (John Conner's Father in 'The Terminator' series)
Riverwind - River (Phoenix) / Wind (blowing air)
Shinare - Shin (I'll kick you in the) / nair (like 'hair')
Silvanoshei - Sil (like the window part) / van (like automobile) / oh (the letter) / shay (like 'shade' without the 'd')
Skie - Sky (like Pie, except there is an S. K. instead of a P).
    Solinari - Sole (Soul Train!) / in (and out) / R (before S) / E (before F)
Takhisis - (This one I know I've been butchering for years, and I'm trying to correct myself.) My usual pronounciation: Tah (T with a short a) / kay (like the name) / sis (as in sister). My corrected pronounciation: Tak (like thumb tack) / hee (as in 'he') / sis (as in sister)
Tanis - Puhts (as in 'Putz')
Tasslehoff - Like David Hasslehoff, but with a 'T' instead of the 'David H'
    Tika - T. / kah (poo)
Tyorl - I have no idea. Tie (neck-tie) / orl (sounds a lot like oral)
Usha - ooo (ahhhh) / sha (like the start of 'Shaaaadup!')
Verminaard - Ver (Vr) / min (Minimum) / ard (vaark)
Vinas Solamnus - Vee (the letter) / nas (your butt with an 'n') / So (as in 'So what') / lam (almost like 'long') / nus (us with an 'n')
Weldon - Well done. (If not medium well. )

Edit: Alphabetically sorted, and names occassionally added. (Skie added last)

Here are the way I worked out how to pronounce the Heroes of the Lance with Cam's help:

    Heroes

    and some demons are mixed:

    Demons
Kranar Drogin of the Red Robes
    Whitestone Council
Nexus Editor for the Dragonlance Lexicon and Adlatum Project.
    Brooklyn Cemetery Clean-up Project

The two that I find when talking to other DL fans cause the most problems are Paladine and Skie. My brother and I fight over which pronounciation is correct.

    My prounounciations:
    Paladine- Pa-La-Deen
Skie- Sky (as in the big blue thing that clouds float in)

    My brother's:
Paladine- Pa-La-Din (more like the char. class)
Skie- Ski (as in the strips of wood used to go down mountains)

But otherwise, I agree with alot of the other prounciations, except I prounouce Neraka as Ne-Rack-ah.

    Huma: Same as Darc
Laurana: Lore/Ann/a (as in the word of the letter... but a. Not ay. No Fonzie's here.)
    Kharas: Car/donkey. You get it.
    Raistlin: See Darc
Majere: Ma/jeer, but with the j dragged out, so it sounds a bit like sheer.
Kitiara: Kind like: kit/she/are/a But with the sh really short sound...
    Caramon: See Darc
    Atta: See Caramon
    Rhys: R/his
    Neraka: Ner as in nerf/a/cah
Paladine: Paladin with an in sound, only dragged out with an ee
Takhisis: Took, only short pronouncig/Isis, as in the goddess
    Odila: Oh/dial/a
