    Default Theiwar Savants

In the ToHS pg 16 of the Theiwar entry it says

Is this just "flavor" ? or are all Theiwar Savants (Theiwar capable of wielding magic) born with these features ?
Are there any other mechanics that would be appropriate for such individuals (magical apptitude or spell casting prodigy as starting feats) ?

Trying to tie in the similarities between Theiwar Dwarves and the 1st edition Derro.
In Stormblade the Theiwar dwarves were called Derro. If you look at the old MM 2 description of the Derro their Savants have the same exact spells as Theiwar Savants do, and the basic behaviors and even weaponry are the same as well.

Yep. All of the dark dwarves in the original modules were derro, as well. However, they're not considered to be derro now - although there honestly is no reason why you couldn't use derro to represent these even more twisted and/or mutated dark dwarf children, most of whom would end up becoming dark dwarf savants when they matured.

There is nothing that says it can't be the same type of affliction/genetic abornomality or whatever you want to call it, that all Thiewar share. Perhaps in Thorbardin it's a small percentae of the Thiewar 10% or 20% of the population, but the living conditions and mold fungus disease affected enough Theiwar in Thorin to make this 90% or more of the births to alter that clan permanently. Perhaps there are 10% to 20% of the Zhakar that are not savants.

Default What do people think of something like this

My first attempt at "Racial Levels"........

    Theiwar Savant Racial Levels

The Savants are the result of many generation of experimentation in magic carried out by the Theiwar Dwarves. Although this has produced Spellcasters of formidable power, it comes at the price of a highly fractured sanity. Theiwar Dwarves can take up to three levels in “Savant” at any
time. Not all Theiwar, however, take racial levels (or all three of them).
    Hit Die: D4
Skill Points at 1st Character Level: (2 + Intelligence Modifier) X4.
Skill Points at Higher Levels: 2 + Intelligence modifier.
“Class” Skills: A Savant has the following racial skills.
Bluff, Hide, KN (Arcana), Listen, Move Silently, and Spellcraft.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Savants are proficient with
all simple weapons and with light armor. In addition they are
proficient with any one martial weapon of their choice.
Spells per Day: At 2nd and 3rd level, the Savant gains
new spells per day (and spells known, if applicable) as if he
had gained a level in a previous spellcasting class. He does
not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class
would have gained. This essentially means that he adds the
level of Savant to his level in the previous spellcasting class,
then determines known spells, spells per day, and caster level
    accordingly.
If the Savant has no levels of a spellcasting class, this
    ability has no effect.

Level BA Fort Ref Will Specials
    1st +0 +0 +2 +0 Madness (-2/+2), Spellcasting Prodigy.
    2nd +1 +0 +3 +0 Madness (-4/+4)
    3rd +1 +1 +3 +1 Madness (-6/+6), +2 Spellcraft.

Arcane Aptitude (Ex): Due to their formidable apptitude for arcane magic, at first level a Savant recieves Spellcasting Prodigy as a bonus feat.
Madness (Ex): Savants gain a racial (-) to Wisdom and (+) to Charisma (as outlined on the table above) . Savants use their Charisma modifier on Will saves instead of their Wisdom modifier.
Racial Bonus (Ex): At third level, a Theiwar Savants gain a +2 racial bonus to Spellcraft checks.

Yes, there have been (and still are) dark dwarf wizards among the Black Robes.

    Default Feat required ?

I was working on a Theiwar that has been raised since 10 years of age (He's now 43) on the surface.
I assume it would be appropriate for him to take "Daylight Adaption" as his first feat ?
Or would it just be assumed that he was resistant ?
