    Default Gerald

Gerald remains silent. Although he had no intention of retreating from these dwarves, he did not feel it was his place to speak up for the group, since he had just joined them.
He did rest his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it.
He watches in anticipation as Thorn puts the crown on once more.

    Maxavel

Max steps forward and shows her palms to the dwarves speaking. She responds in common, not knowing what they said. "Greetings. We mean you no harm. We thought this place abandoned."

Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains south of Pax Tharkas at the Mountain supposedly housing the Dwarven Kingdom of Thorbardin, Late Afternoon of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

Thorn puts on the Helm of Grallen and his voice changes once again to that of the long dead Dwarf Prince; "Theiwar! What are you doing in the surface blocks?" he asks in outraged confusion in Dwarven. The Theiwar Cleric hurls back; "They insult us with some kind of sorcery! Kill them!"; and all of the dark gray skinned Dwarves explode into action....

The companions are arrayed in two rows of 3 people across; the first rank consisting of Rough, Thorn and Gerald left to right; while the rear rank consists of Vale, Maxavel and Gilthanas. Weapons and shield are hurriedly drawn; but the speed of the Dwarves' attack catches them a little off-guard....

The four Theiwar archers all let loose arrows at the rear 3 Companions; Vale and Max each having one arrow come thier way, while Gilthanas has a pair of arrows come flying at him....

Vale manages to just barely duck under the arrow fired at him, feeling the ripple in his hair from the passing shot. Then he dives out of sight into the darkness behind a nearby building that takes him out of the line-of-sight of the Theiwar....and his fellow adventurers....

Gilthanas had managed to slink back to the rear rank, but before he could get out of the line-of-fire; a pair of arrows come hurtling towards him. He flinches away from one, but the other manages to land a shallow cut across his left fore-arm, below the end of his Elven Chainmail Tunic's sleeve. He hisses at the pain of the wound*; but then gets more concerned as he feels a moment of heat flush over his body and his vision swims for a moment, before the heat suddenly passes and he shakes his head whie keeping his eyes shut tight before opening them again and having his normal vision return**....Ducking back around a corner of a low Dwarven building, he draws his own Bow and nocks an arrow...

Maxavel has time to shake her head in dismay as yet another situation descends into violence and then arrows, spells and blades are being used against each other...She can't help but let out a little yelp as an arrow slammed into her Studded Leather Armored vest, but the arrowhead was turned by one of the metal half-spheres and after a moment of just hanging off of her at a wierd angle, the arrow fell to the ground, no damage done. She had little time to marvel at that lucky break though as the Dwarven Cleric of Hiddukel grabbed his Medallion of Faith and called out a spell while pointing right at her. For a brief moment she felt frozen, rooted to the spot, but then the moment passed like a wave crashing over and around her....and she was free again. She knew that the Theiwar Priest had just attempted to use a Hold Person spell on her, but it hadn't affected her or her companions....

In the front rank; Rough the Ranger had a screaming Dwarven warrior race up to him with a Warhammer in one hand and a Shield in the other and the swing, while vicious; failed to connect to the veteran woodsman, as he managed to deftly step away from the strike. In a moment, his hands were filled with his enchanted Staff and Dagger.....

Sir Gerald Doorne was a bit surprised at the speed of his diminutive opponent, and while he drew his Longsword out, he failed to get his Shield in the way of the oncoming Warhammer swing and with a hiss of pain, he flinched back from the hammer blow to his right side***. Now his sword was his hand and his Shield was raised and the newly made Knight of Solamnia was properly ready for battle...

In the center of the line, Thorn/Grallen's eyes opened wide as the Theiwar leader rushed in quick and sent a pair of rapid, hard slices of his Battle-Axe at the Dwarf with deadly force****....one of which managed to slice through a piece of his Plate Mail armor and draw some blood along his left ribs*****, while the other strike JUST missed connecting with his head; though it DID manage to jar off the enchanted Helm of Grallen; which landed perhaps 10 feet away in a clang of metal on stone that echoed throughout the deserted Dwarven city block. Thorn blinked his eyes rapidly as he came back to the here-and-now to seen an enraged, powerfully built Theiwar Dwarf holding a Battleaxe in his hands and clearly wanting to use it to end Thorn's life....

*Gilthanas was hit for 4 points of damage, he is currenlty at 27 of 31 HPs
**Gilthanas realizes the arrows are tipped with some kind of poision....he made his Saving Throw
***Gearld was hit for 5 poitns of damage and he is currenlty at 34 of 39 HPs
****Meta-game.....the fact that the Dwarf Leader is attacking twice in the same round with a Melee weapon means he is at LEAST a 7th Level Fighter
*****Thorn is hit for 8 points of damage and he is currently at 32 of 40 HPs

Gilthanas and Vale are out of the line of sight of any of the enemy....Gilthanas can come around the corner to shoot at the Dwarven archers if he likes; gaining an AC bonus from the cover

Vale can use his Hide in Shadows and Move Silently if he wishes to attempt to move closer to the action covertly

    Maxavel

Thinking that what's good for the gander is good for the goose, Max holds her medallion and points at the Dwarven Cleric. Calling on her God to hold the dwarf in place, she hopes that her companions are up to this task.

    Default Rough

Lets out a string of curses at the dwarf that attacked him... this is why he is a ranger... not a cleric. He couches his staff like a knight would a lance and strikes the butt of it into the dwarf's armpit, maneuvering the warrior around and essentially bull-rushing him towards the drop-off, intent on sending him over the edge. Old men don't fight fair.

In the now calm part of his mind where he has come to recognize as a place to find his god's presence, he asks his deity for guidance and aid for him and his friends.

In the halls of Thorbardin, Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains; Late Afternoon of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

Snarling and growling in pain and anger; Thorn launches a pair of attacks with his enchanted Hand-Axe at the big Theiwar Dwarf Leader in front of him; missing once, but landing a solid strike with his second attack; drawing blood and a grunt of pain from his foe in return. The Gray Dwarf launched another pair of attacks with his Battle-Axe, but Thorn was able to duck under one blow and deflect the force of the other with his Buckler Shield.....

Gilthanas reached down into his Belt Pouch and drew forth spell components while drawing on his magical abilities to cast a Sleep spell that targeted the four
archers on the flat roof-top some 30 or so feet away and he was able to drop two of them snoring to the ground; their bows forgotten for the moment. An instant later, the Elven Fighter-Mage cursed in pain as an arrow from one of the two Dwarven archers who had NOT been affected by spell cut into his upper thigh*.....

Maxavel held her Medallion of Faith tightly in her hand and called on the power of Mishakal to Hold the Dwarven Cleric of Hiddukel and was quite pleased when she saw the servant of an evil God freeze in place...unable to impact the situation for the moment, at least. Her satisfaction comes to an end when an arrow flies into her left shoulder and the impact draws a hiss of pain from the Ergothic Cleric**....

Valentheran slips through the dark alleys between the Dwarven buildings as quietly as he can; hoping to maneuver behind the Dwarves while also being acutely aware of the fact that while the Dwarves CLEARLY know this area well, he does not. However, he DOES discover that the Dwarves are remarkably consistent and the grid-pattern is quite easy to navigate....so he SHOULD be coming up behind them, fairly quickly....

Rough the Ranger; angry at the sudden attack, decides to attempt to use his Quarterstaff as a makeshift ram to push his opponent towards the edge of the open pit they had crossed over. However, the distance was a little farther than the veteran Ranger had remembered and the Dwarven warrior is a little heavier as well...probably due to the Chain Mail he was wearing. While the Dwarf grunted in pain from the bruising wound and WAS shoved a good distance, eventually he was able to use his Hammer to knock the Staff out from his armpit; which in turn caused the over-extended Rough to fall a bit forward, though he was able to catch himself before falling face-first to the ground. Rough WAS a bit slow in getting up and back away from his opponent however, so the Hammer blow to his left side left him wincing and cursing in anger***....

Sir Gerald Doorne saluted his foe and then with a masterful stroke full of power and timed perfectly, lashed out with his longsword and took the head of the Gray Dwarf CLEAN OFF in one swing.****Looking around, he saw Rough and Thorn both seemingly holding their own against their opponents and the Dwarf with the Medallion eerily frozen in once place....

*Gilthanas was hit for 5 points of damage and is currently at 22 of 31 HPs and he realizes that THIS arrow was NOT tipped with poison
**Maxavel was hit for 3 points of damage and is currently at 31 of 34 HPs
***Rough was hit for 4 points of damage and is currently at 36 of 40 HPs
****For Gerald I rolled a natural 20 and the resulting double damage roll was 16 points; WHOO-HOO!!!!
