"Glad to have you with us, Sir Gerald. Garth spoke well of you." Max graciously allows Gerald to lead up the path. Upon arrival at the top, Max sees the 'hand' appear.

"Most interesting! It seems as if they are a friendly bunch. This can only bode well for our success."

Seeing Thorn put the crown on, Max too awaits what's coming.

Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains south of Pax Tharkas at the Mountain supposedly housing the Dwarven Kingdom of Thorbardin, Late Morning-Early Afternoon of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

Thorn puts on the Helm of Grallen and once again, the strange change takes over the Dwarven warrior as he 'becomes' Grallen; the fallen Dwarven prince from two centuries ago. He quickly takes in the sight and says with a satisified tone; "Ahhh...the old entrance mechanics to Thorbardin", and he starts to reach out to 'shake' the mechanical hand when he then takes a look around and stops for a moment. "I would recommend that all of you come over here with us"; he says to the rest of the adventurers, some of whom are around the 'front' of the mountain and they soon make thier way across the long, narrow but very wide ledge to where Thorn/Grallen was standing. The Dwarf also looks over the narrow ledge and frowns a bit saying; "Hmm....in my time, it wasn't such a straight drop....there was an incline on one side on which the door would rest....this is going to be dramatic.....oh well, here goes"; and he grasps the mechanical hand and shakes it....

For a long moment it seems like nothing is happening....then a deep rumbling can be heard....and FELT by those on the ledge....if Rough hadn't seen the Dwarf shake the mechanicl hand, the veteran Ranger would have SWORN it was a tremor or earthquake......Eventually, a large section of the Mountain face; perhaps 10 feet high and 30 wide begins to suddenly push OUT and away from the mountain; revealing it to be a massive section of stone wall with the outside face cunningly desiged to look EXACTLY like the mountain face. A huge screw pushed the door open from the center section and a hinge started to swing the door open to one side. However, due to the incline no longer being there per Grallen's words; the massively heavy door had nothing upon which to rest, so after a long moment, a horrible metal tearing sound could be heard as the door pulled the screw shaft down and eventually snapped off to plunge to the mountain valley floor and raise a big cloud of dust. The entrance was permanently open now and after a long moment of blinking away the dust and clearing their ears from the ringing sounds of the massive crash, the adventurers took thier first look the long lost Kingdom of Thorbardin....

Thier first look didn't amount to much. A highly organized city block stood all around them; laid out in perfectly square dimensions....and none of it inhabited, as far s the adventurers could see. The entire cavern was coated in dust and the fine Dwarves constructed stores and apartment blocks were empty and silent. Thorn/Grallen seems a bit confused; "This is the Gatehouse district....in my time it was a thriving community....I wonder what happened? Perhaps my father Derkin ordered it abandoned after the War....hmm...well, if you follow First Street"; here he points to a wide path that leads directly away from the open door and deeper into the Mountain and darkness; "It will take you to the Urkhan Sea and from there to the heart of Thorbardin".

Some of the more curious of the 800 refugees were starting to make thier way forward to glimpse into the now open section of the mountain. The adventurers realized that the block of Dwarven buildings; though dusty; would certainly be large enough to house everyone....

Sees Thorn shake hands with a mountain and decides that dwarves are weird.

(I hope I am not the only one that pictured something like this)

The old Ranger is taken aback as the side of the mountain grinds outward from the cliff face, finding himself taking several steps back. He had expected something grand to happen, but never on this level. He winced as the metal of the ancient screw groaned and eventually screamed as it sheered off and the door tumbled below. Slowly he turned from one awesome sight to the other. He has trouble relating the open maw of the mountain entrance to the cliff face that was here only a moment before. Slowly he moves forward and looks inside before looking at the others. The old man can only shrug and steps inside to have a look. As they enter into the gatehouse district of the seemingly abandoned Dwarf Kingdom, Rough strains his senses for any sign of life, dwarven or even a rat. He hopes his elven and dwarven companions have more luck. She walks over to one of the buildings and places a hand on the stonework, realizing he may well be the first human to have done so in hundreds of years, and feels oddly humbled. He closes his eyes and prays for a sign from his god as he opens himself up much as he does in his morning and evening meditations to Habakkuk's power, stretching out his senses.

Thorn after released from the former dwarven king follows the others cautiously into the dwarven complex. Mostly like a child excited to go somewhere new, trying to take in the history of the place.

Vale sticks near Gilthanis and keeps on alert while the strange events of openings in mountains and deserted underground cities unfold. He has an uneasy feeling that all is not well.

"Well. So the quiet approach is out." She looks over the edge at the destruction below. "Glad nobody was down there."

Walking into the cavern she can't help but be impressed, even with the lack of upkeep. "It's amazing! We are truly blessed to have gotten this far." She flits from building to building, oblivious of any possible danger. "We could have a council here...and setup kitchens over there..."

Says to Maxvale- Let us make sure there safe before we let them move in. There is a reason the dwarves do not inhabit this place anymore.

"That seems a wise course of action. Allow me to lead the way", says Gerald.
Drawing his sword, Gerald warily walks into the now open mountain, peering into the abandoned city looking for any sign of life.

Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains south of Pax Tharkas at the Mountain supposedly housing the Dwarven Kingdom of Thorbardin, Early-Late Afternoon of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

A thorough search of the area revealed that except for a few rats and crickets; there was nothing living in the deserted block; which Grallen/Thorn named 'Gatehouse Section'; and after removing the enchanted helm; Thorn recognized the architecture as looking pretty much EXACTLY like the neighborhoods closest to the Gates leading out of the Mountains in his own home of Kaoyln in the Garnet Mountains of southern Solamnia.

Rough the Ranger WAS able to find some Dwarven sized tracks leading out of the dust down 'First Street' further into the mountain; suggesting that while it had been unoccupied for some time; it HAD been visited by at least a small party of Dwarves; or something thier size; relatively recently....

The Refugees milling about outside seem to be getting restless and after a careful search of the deserted block; it is declared safe and the hundreds of people are soon brought in and they begin to start the process of dusting off small, but well-built stone furniture that is still standing and putting thier makeshift blankets and furs on them while a guard post from the make shift Company of Guards is set up at the wide-open entrance to the Mountain AND near the Block's exit to First Street. All of this takes several hours and after a final break and a quick meal; the party of adventurers say a few words to Elistan and the other Council Leaders and then set off down 'First Street' to find out more about this ancient Dwarven nation....

'First Street' is a very, very long passageway that eventually opens into a large chasm with a 'bridge' spanning the 50-60 foot wide chasm, whose depth cannot be seen; and on the other side of which stands a large, wide-open cavern with more Dwarven 'city block' buildings that appear to be uninhabitated. Rough can tell the tracks he saw earlier continue across the bridge and the bridge has a pair of 3 and a half foot high railings that run the length of both sides of the bridge; which is perhaps 6 feet wide. The ceiling is too high to be seen by either torchlight or Infravision.....
