    Maxavel

Max smiles gently at Rough's words and allows him to bandage her wound. "Thank you, kind Rough." She gives a small sigh of relief when the decision is made to not execute the prisoners and nods at Vale for speaking his mind.

Max walks over to the priest, helps bind him, and removes the holy symbol he used. "This..." She says, holding the symbol in front of his face "..is the symbol of lies. Where did you learn of it?"

In the halls of Thorbardin, Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains; Late Afternoon of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

The Gray Dwarf Cleric has no time to answer any questions as he suddenly gasps and twitches and spasms painfully as his face turns into a grimace and blood begins to slowly leak from his nostrils, lips and even his ears. After shuddering a few more times his eyes roll up into the back of his head and falls to the ground in a non-moving heap. It's quickly apparent that he is deceased....

Maxavel 'hears' the words of Mishakal echo in her head; There is nothing you could have done my beloved; his choice of God; the foul Lord of Deceit has silenced his own Prophet. Sighing, the Ergothic Cleric moves to the other prisoners, who are slowly coming out of their magically induced slumber to find themselves tied-up and gagged by tall strangers.....

Gerald, Gilthanas, Rough and Thorn tie up the 3 surviving Gray Dwarf archers and gag them; while Vale takes a look at the drugged, non-Gray Dwarf. While there are some small cuts and bruises; he looks to be in decent health; he is strong and has a brown beard and appears to be a young Dwarf. He is dressed in mining clothes, though the gold bracer on his right arm would seem to signify that he is a Dwarf of better means than most...

When the Gray Dwarves do wake up and find themselves in their predicament, their eyes widen in fear and it doesn't take much effort to get them to talk. Though they don't understand Common; they all speak Dwarven, though with a thick, unfamiliar accent to Thorn's ears. One of them, whose name is Tongfa Caveflame; says that their Priest; the late Wennik Stoneaxe (nods to the Corpse); told them that it was their sacred duty to kidnap the son of Thane Hornfel; which they did (nods to the drugged Dwarf); but then they were running from the large band of troops led by the OTHER son of the Thane; whom the Cleric did NOT tell them about....

It wasn't long after this moment when the sounds of a large party could be heard swiftly moving towards them from deeper inside the mountain. Sure enough, a few moments later a party of some two dozen Dwarves; all Mountain Dwarves like Thorn; rounded the corner and came up short at the sight of the humans and elves and Dwarf party in front of them. All of the Dwarves are wearing chainmail and carrying weapons and one steps forward who is wearing plate mail, carries a large two-handed Hammer and has an apron with a Dwarven rune stylized on it that Thorn (and those than understand Dwarven writing) realizes states 'Of the Royal Clan'. The Dwarf is tall, strong, young and has Brown Hair and wary Brown eyes and looks a lot like the drugged Dwarf the Gray Dwarves had kidnapped. Thorn notices he also has a braid of hair on the right side of his head which traditionally only the members of the Royal Clan families wear.

He steps forward and calls out in Dwarven; "I am Arman Kharas*; son of Thane Hornfel of the Hylar. My warriors and I were pursuing a band of rogue Theiwar Dwarves that kidnapped by half-brother Pick. I see you are strangers of different races that have not been seen or heard from in Thorbardin for centuries. It would seem that you have fought the Theiwar and defeated them and have Pick in your custody. What are your intentions?"....

*Thorn and all those that speak Dwarven would know that 'Arman' is NOT a Dwarven name but rather means 'Lesser', so he's calling himself 'Lesser Kharas'....needless to say this is NOT something any Dwarf Thorn has ever met would have heard of.

    Default Rough

Stands up straight and squares his shoulds, gently nudging Max and the elvens to do the same. He then bows in a dwarven fashion, standing a couple steps behind Thorn to indicate him as the respected leader for the time being. Otherwise, the old man is silent, but remains upfront and bold as if he has nothing to hide.

    Maxavel

After being thoroughly disgusted by the actions of the priest and his god, Max shakes her head and destroys the holy symbol.

When the rescue party arrives, she gets Rough's hint and respectfully takes a back seat to Thorn in matters with Dwarves.

    Default Gilthanias

Will follow Roughs lead and let Thorn take the lead.

    Default Gerald

Gerald does not understand what the dwarf is saying, but from the actions of Thorn he assumes that this is the dwarf in command, and with a high station in dwarven society.
He follows the others example and gives a bow and waits silently.

In the halls of Thorbardin, Somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains; Late Afternoon thru Early Evening of 22 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

Thorn places the Helm of Grallen upon his head and immediately he takes on the countenance of the long lost Dwarven Prince. "Greetings my brothers"; he says in perfect Dwarven and in a voice and tone that is NOT that of Thorn. "I am the spirit of Grallen; son of Derkin; Thane of the Hylar and King under the Mountain. I fell in the final battle of the war against the foul Wizard Fistandantilus and have been cursed to have my spirit reside in the gems of this Helm, unable to find peace until the helm is placed in the proper spot in the burial grounds of the Valley of the Thanes."

Arman and the other Dwarves show their surprise by the widening of their eyes, but not by much else. As Grallen/Thorn continues speaking; it becomes readily apparent to the rest of the party that the Mountain Dwarves relax a bit and seem to believe in the truth of Grallen/Thorn's words one hundred percent....

Grallen/Thorn continues upon looking closely at Arman; "It would seem you and I are kin. Who is your father and grandfather?" Arman answers back; "I am Arman Kharas; son of Thane Hornfel and grandson of Thane Kytil." Grallen/Thorn smiles and says; "Then you are my grand-nephew as Kytil was my younger brother." Grallen/Thorn then frowns for a moment and asks; "You say Kytil was Thane but do not name him as King....why is that?" Arman grunts and replies with; "After the Dwarfgate war...the war in which you fell; your father; High King Derkin was left with only his younger son; Kytil alive. The Neidar Dwarves were obviously all expelled from the Kingdom and in the years that followed the war; with the loss of the Neidar and with the Clerics of Reorx unable to communicate with the spirits of the Dead; there were only 4 Thanes left. Those of my family leading the Hylar; the Daewar; the Theiwar and"...and an embarrassed pause happens before Arman continues with; "....the Gully Dwarves of the Aghar. The Theiwar were soon able to trick the gullible Aghar into agreeing with them that a vote was needed to be called for. A vote to see if there should still be a High King with two of the 6 Thanedoms no longer able to take part in important council decisions. While the Daewar stood by us Hylar; the 2-2 tie resulted in Derkin being unable to have his son...your brother Kytil....inherit the title of 'King under the Mountain'; and so there has been no King since Derkin's death."

Grallen/Thorn answered in sadness; "I see....well, onto matter of the present then. This party of adventurers rescued my Helm and thus my spirit by defeating the shade of the foul sorcerer Fistandantilus. They have proven themselves worthy champions of good and honor; and in my opinion I would advise you to trust them. Good luck and take care my kin." With that, Thorn is left blinking and back to his normal self.

After a brief awkward silence; Arman takes charge; "Well....I trust the word of my noble ancestor; so if you'll follow us, we'll take you to my father and the council of Thanes and see what they can do for you. In the meantime; we'll escort these rogue Theiwar to a prison and take my half-brother Pick back for treatment against the poison. If you'll follow us?"; and with that; the large party of Dwarves quickly ropes the prisoners together and puts them in line as they march down a long, dusty corridor that once must have seen a lot of traffic by the Dwarves; but now it clearly has fallen out of use. Pick remains in a daze; but he's clearly in no danger of any immediate demise.

After a long, long walk of several hours; they eventually move into a wide open cavern which branches off in two directions. In one direction a large 'farm' of giant mushrooms has been neatly sectioned off into squares and is attended too by Dwarven 'farmers'; some of them using a plow pulled by stunted ponies. They stop and stare in silent astonishment at the sight of humans and elves. Arman just says; "This way"; and guides the party down the other branch which leads to a sight that astonishes the companions...

In front of them stretches a vast underground lake; lit by strangely glowing fungi here and there on the Cavern walls that easily rise a hundred feet high or more and perhaps half-a-mile round. A massive stalagmite lies in the center fo the lake, and it has been flattened and a large city block has been built on it. Arman gestures and says; "There is the heart of Thorbardin and where my father and the other Thanes reside. Come"; and he leads the party down to a pier where the party sees one of the strangest means of travel any of them have ever encountered. A wide, flat-bottomed boat with high sides floats on the glassy surface of the lake and the boat has a large shaft; like a mast; in the center of it. No sail hangs from this shalft though. Instead; the top is curved like a hook and it encompasses a strong cable that runs the length of the lake towards the stagalmite/island utilizing poles; like trees in a line; to support the cable and the boat is pulled along the path by a Pilot at a wheel contraption that guides the boat each way.

The party clambers on and soon they are slowly traversing the lake; which Arman calls the 'Urkhan Sea'; towards the heart of Thorbardin...

Vale shows proper respect for the dwarves but otherwise remains fairly silent, keeping a watchful eye on his surroundings as he follows along.

Thorn holds the crown in one hand respectfully contemplating that Arman deserves to be king but does not bring voice to such. Silently admiring the place and otherwise saying little.
