The ranger’s arrow struck the tiny demon, causing it to tumble through the air on impact. However, the quasit was an expert flyer, and rolled with the injury. Alexander’s quick glance at the townsfolk revealed that the two men had run off, leaving the woman injured and bleeding on the make shift stage. He couldn’t tell if they were still alive from the distance, but he could see that there was a lot of blood.

Enraged from the pain of being pierced by another arrow, the closest quasit darted forward, slashing with claws and nipping with its razor-sharp teeth. Alex felt the piercing sting of the demon’s bite, flinching in pain. The other tiny demon swooped and arced over the ranger’s head to end behind him, flanking him once more and slashing with its tiny claw. It appeared that these nasty little demons intended to fight to the end.

Alexander had once again been surrounded by the little demons. The demons had become irksome and while the wounds were not life threatening yet, they were still painful little cuts. Alexander decided to focus on the one that he had just shot to reduce the ability to surround him.

Alexander rolled out from his surround position once more and headed to the north. Alexander shot the Quasit now on the right from his point of view.

    OOC:
    Tumble 15' north (d20) nat 20 + 12 = 32
    Attack roll Quasit #1 (d20) 17 + 11 = 28
    Damage (d8) 4 + 9 = 13

The ranger’s arrow flew true, striking the tiny winged demon squarely in the chest, causing it to tumble through the air. As it tumbled, sparks began to fly away from it, and it imploded in a fiery vortex of demonic energy as it was vanquished from the world.

Seeing its counterpart destroyed, the other quasit charged on the wing directly at Alexander, its tiny wings flapping so quickly that their buzzing filled his ears with their noise, nearly causing him to lose his concentration. It swiped at him with an angry claw, gashing him across his face. He felt the burning of the poison from the demon’s claw as he watched blood fling away from his cheek.

In the distance, Alexander heard Raiscella howl in fear and frustration.

    OOC
Alexander: Tumbles to location on the map. Attacks #1, 28 – hits! Does 13 damage. Kills #1!

Quasit #2: Flies (perfect) into position and attacks Alex with Claw, 23 – hits! Does 2 damage. Fort Save for poison this round, 23 – saves! Fort Save for poison from last round, 11 – fails! Takes d2 dex damage and saves reset to two consecutive for that occurrence. Takes 1 dex damage.

Alexander had known from the first sight of the little demons that they had poisonous claws but had hadn't the chance to prepare for this battle as well as he would have hoped. He felt the burn as the poison seeped through his veins. He knew hosting to stop the poison, if only for a few hours.

Alexander saw his moment and rolled back as the demon let up a small opening in the attacks. He cast an incantation that he knew and kept handy for these types of problems. Without the poison to worry about, Alexander would be able to focus on the demon again.

Alexander heard the howl of his friend in the distance, had he found more trouble or had he finally come to his senses? Alexander knew it to be potentially dangerous but let out a loud whistle none the less. He had to let Raiscella know where he was, hopefully the wolf was the only one that would come to the sound.

    OOC:
    Tumble 15ft north roll (d20) 14 + 11 = 24
Cast spell: Delay Poison on self
    Perception roll (d20) 11 + 11 = 22
    Whistle to call Raiscella

The spell Alexander cast alleviated the sickly, burning sensation of the poison coursing through his system, if only temporarily. He knew that in a few hours’ time, he would be forced to face the effects once more. His whistle was answered by a friendly bark somewhere in the distance. It appeared that his companion had come to terms with his fears and was most likely returning.

The quasit snarled an evil smile as it realized that its quarry had chosen not to fire its bow at him, giving it time to do as much damage to its victim as it could. Swooping up and around behind the ranger, the tiny winged demon cut off the ranger’s exit plan, blocking his northward retreat. Again, it lashed out with a single, tiny claw, but Alexander was ready, blocking it with his bow. The demon snarled in frustration.

    OOC
Alexander: Tumble check – success. Casts Delay Poison. Perception Check determines that Raiscella is closer than before (he is now on his way back, will appear in 3 rounds).

Quasit #2: Flies (perfect) up and around Alex to block his northward movement. Attack, 16 – miss!

Note on Map: because of the size of the map, I am adjusting the locations so that the participants remain on the map.

Alexander was momentarily relived as the burn from the poison stopped throbbing in his cheek. The relief was improved by the sound of Raiscella approaching but short lived as the demon was back on him again in no time at all.

Alexander once again waited for his opening in the demons attack and rolled away from the demon. This time Alexander went south as his path had been blocked by the little demons. He let out another shot at the demon.

    OOC:
    Tumble south 15ft roll (d20) 4 + 11 = 15
    Attack roll (d20) 15 + 10 = 25
    Damage (d8) 3 + 9 = 12

The ranger’s arrow struck the tiny winged demon once more, causing it to shriek in pain. It fluttered and shook with rage, then pulled the arrow from its torso.

“You may have won the day, half breed,” the quasit hissed in a broken common tongue, spittle dripping from its maw, “But you shall pay for slaying my mate! You have not seen the last of me or my kin, for we shall hunt you down and murder you when you least expect. Then we shall lick the marrow from your bones!” Having uttered its threat, it zipped over a nearby building and disappeared, cackling as it flew away.

For a moment, the street fell silent, the only sound was Alexander’s heavy breathing.

Raiscella had come to terms with the unnatural fear that had choked his heart. He had turned back toward where his friend and companion had been left behind, and let out a howl to let Alexander know that he was on his way.

That’s when he caught the scent.

At first, it was just a tickle in his nose. But then the breeze brought the odor to him even fuller. Cocking his head to the side, with his ears perked forward, the wolf scanned the alley to his left for the source of the scent. The smell had the taint of brimstone. Somewhere nearby, there was a demon.

The odor was familiar to Raiscella, one that he had encountered more than once with Alexander during the scouting missions into the wastes beyond the West Sellen river for the Watch. He knew that the danger was real, but he also knew that it warranted an investigation.

Creeping forward on silent paws, the wolf kept to the shadows, seeking his prey. At the end of the alley lingered a lone figure with a bloated frame. It seemed to sense his approach, even though it could not yet see Raiscella. It shuddered with each heaving step, yet despite its shape, the thing moved with surprising quickness. Although Raiscella did not know the name of the demon, he knew what it was and that it was his duty to dispatch the creature before it managed to find an innocent to torture.

    OOC
Alexander: Tumbles and attacks. Hits for 7 damage.

Quasit: Utters curse and flees. Due to Perfect Flight is able to withdraw to cover and disappear from sight.

    ***

Raiscella: Uses Scent ability to track demon that is upwind. Identifies odor as a demon he has encountered before, but does not know the name (because he’s a wolf!). However, he’s familiar with the demon, and knows the following information from experience: it has spell like abilities, and it has resistance to normal attacks.

I’m not going to generate a map for this encounter as I don’t believe it is necessary. If you have a question regarding the layout, PM or text me.

The dretch is 15’ away. The alley is 20’ wide and dead ends just behind the demon, meaning the Raiscella is blocking the only exit. There is ample light as it is daytime. There are no obstacles to impede movement, nor is it difficult terrain.

    Raiscella has Initiative!

Raiscella stood in front of the demon, only steps away, and hunkered down into a more threatening stance. The fur across his shoulders stood on end and his teeth bared. Raiscella barked at the demon and stood his ground.

Alexander heard barking in the distance and knew that Raiscella had found something or something had found Raiscella. Alexander raced in the direction of the barking, he feared that something might harm Raiscella without his aid.

    OOC:
Raiscella readied attack for the dretch when it approaches:
    Attack roll (d20)16 + 2 = 18
    Damage (d6) 3 +1 = 4
    Free trip attempt (d20) 11 + 2 = 13

Alexander move toward Raiscella, double move if not able to run

As the wolf lowered his head and raised his hackles in warning to the demonic creature, the Dretch seemed unfazed it approached Raiscella. As it swung its clawed hand back, the wolf pounced, having readied itself for battle. His teeth sunk into the sickly flesh of the small demon, but did not manage to tear open a wound. However, he caught the Dretch off balance, and brought it to the ground.

Scrambling before the snarling and snapping animal, the small demon dodged sharp teeth and managed to struggle to its feet. Then it whipped back its claw, and swatted Raiscella across the side of his head. The wolf saw stars, then tasted his own blood as crimson trickled down his cheek and into his foaming mouth.

    OOC
The Dretch approaches to attack Raiscella, triggering readied attack, 18 – hits! Damage does not get through DR. Trip attempt, 13 – success! Dretch is prone.

Dretch: Attempts to stand, provokes an AoO from the wolf, 13 – miss! Attack on wolf, 17 – hits! Does 3 damage.

    Raiscella’s turn!

Note: You can skip Alexander’s movement as I will assume he double moves (can’t run due to terrain and obstacles). He is a considerable distance away at this point, with an estimation of eight rounds before arrival on the scene with the Dretch.

Raiscella stood in the alley way, face to face with the snarling Dretch. His face stung but the wound was not his primary concern at the moment. Raiscella lunged at the Dretch when he saw an opening, bitting down and trying to pull the wretched creature off his feet once more.

    OOC:
    Raiscella attacks d(20) 12 + 2 = 14
    Damage d(6) 4 + 1 = 5
    Free trip attempt if hit d(20) 16 + 2 = 18
