Bubbisa plodded down the hallway, wary of anything that seemed un-ordinary. As she passed the place where Smiler had fallen, swept clean of dust bunnies and gearghost bits by the ravenous priest, Bubbisa noted the pressure plate that had sprayed Gobs during Smiler's final moments. SHe also spied a pair of short benches, each with a tiny dot of discoloration at head height behind the seat. And a secret panel possibly hiding a hidden passage.
Gobs moved into position behind Bubbisa, doing his best tostep where she stepped and look where she looked. His growing adoration for his new chieftess sped his steps and he nearly walked onto Bubbisa's ankles when she stopped at the doorway where Smiler had died. With a nod and some hand gestures, Bubbisa pointed out where Gobs could see the pressure plate for the acid trap he'd tripped during the combat. Beyond in the room he also noted the spots of discoloration on the walls abov the bench seats, as well as the secret panel. What he also noticed, that Bubbisa hadn't, was that the secret panel was trapped, or something like it. Alchemical glue was used to seal it, likely pointing to a gas trap if he knew Smiler's preferences, as he suspected he did. However, a well-concealed hatch in the floor between the benches was safe but probably locked. Gobs was sure that sitting on the benches was a bad idea, considering that likely there was a sharp point ready to poke someone in the back of the head if they sat. Gobs set to work on disabling the tile while explaining to Bubbisa what he'd discovered with her guidance.
"Boss, there for sure traps behind spots on wall. Me thinkin' pointy things to the head. But secret panel trapped! There 's a floor hatch between the benches. That's trap-free I think." Gobs dug loose a small spike from his tool kit and a tiny hammer, gently working the wedge into a seam in the floor to freeze the pressure plate in place. He gestured grandly to the room as he entered and stood beside the floor hatch and tapped his toe on it to indicate its space. "Want me to open it?"

Bubbisa nodded to Gobs. "Me want see what in secret door. Go Gobs, show me. And no goblin sit in chairs unless want another hole in head." She said to everyone. Mostly she didn't want her trapsmith distracted, he had a job to do.

"Me want see what in secret door. Go Gobs, show me. And no goblin sit in chairs unless want another hole in head." Bubbisa's wish was Gobs command. He drew his sword, in case there was something below awaiting them. Then, with a bit of effort, as the door was stuck shut, he wrenched it aside. Below was a low tunnel, goblin-sized and dusty. Nothing stirred within the darkness. Gobs leaped into the hole, swiveling backwards and forwards to look at the tunnel.
"It go back towards torch room one way. Other way has door at end." Gobs poked his head up to give his report. He grinned. "Want me explore back or forward or what?" Gobs waited for his leader to respond.

Bubbisa thought for a second, her foot tapped while she did so. Finally, "No. Not yet. Let us explore other halls first then we go down secret tunnel. Come!" She made her way out of the room, hopping over he pressure plate just in case. She led them down the closet hallway going east, still keeping her eyes wide for the traps Smiler may have made.

Bubbisa led her troupe down the closest hallway going east, still keeping her eyes wide for the traps Smiler may have made. Gobs was close on her heels and he was getting better at seeing the traps. The hallway ran staggered in five-to-fifteen foot stretches before making a turn for at least four turns. Each time there was some sinister snare. A near-invisible lattice of razor wire across the passage was followed by an explosive tied to a tripwire which was then followed by a club flurry bursting forth from the walls to swat at anyone within reach, before a side passage broke off. Each time the keen eyes of Bubbisa had spotted a trap, Gobs was able to disarm it for his troupe's safe passage. Ahead lay at least one more turn of the passage but to the right, which felt south, so Gobs assured everyone was a short hallway leading into a wide lit, room.

At the split in the passage a goblin sigil, a two-prong fork with an 'x' over one prong, is carved into the stone of the walls. It indicates the room is trapped and the passageway is safe. The room appears long and the now-familiar black-purple flames cast flickering shadows on walls once decorated by lurid murals. A single pedestal looms in the center of the room.

Perhaps even more interesting to Bubbisa is that below the goblin sigil is a hidden door in the wall, just across from short hall leading to the room. What to do, what to do?

Goblins wind through some very nasty tunnels, avoiding more of Smiler's little surprises. It has become apparent that the slaughter that must have occurred here in the Gauntlet must have been on an epic scale, yet only old bloodstains mar surfaces. Not a bone in sight. Gobbies?

Rabbi Hug gritted his teeth and suffered the continued buzzing around him. There was nothing he could do and the curved walls of the skull were as much a prison as an existential nullspace could be. Power reacting to power. Hug could sense the impending meeting. The skulls called to each other, wolves of a pack howling in the night. Wicked wolves, to be sure, and a pack more damned the Rabbi could not imagine, save perhaps for Lamashtu's own. Bah! Hug squeezed his hands over his ears tighter and moaned. Beyond, Gorvgo watched in horror as the skull of Rabbi Hug belched profane energies all over Gorvgo's hands and shirt. Purple-black slime coated his dirty, ragged clothes, though no one but Gorvgo, and, strangely, Slurry, seemed to notice. The rat wandered up and started licking the slime off Gorvgo's belly, standing on its front paws to hold itself up better.

Gobs could feel the tug. Go to the column. Forget the warning, it means nothing. He twitched as he fought the urge to charge into the room. Bubbisa was in charge now, and she hadn't made a decision yet. Gobs listened to the sound of grinding bone from within his backpack, sure someone was going to say something. The voice, cold and...gaunt? It whispered at him like a gnat that wouldn't be swatted away. It nibbled at him... "Quiet!"
Gobs snarled in the dimness, though no one seemed to be making any sounds needing shushed.

Sparky held his torch aloft, reveling in its power and perfection. The firespeech flowered in his brain in waves of ecstasy. Or perhaps that was the mushrooms. Sparky had eaten a couple as he awaited the all-clear to move forward once Bubbisa had taken the crystal bauble. Seeing Sparky enjoy his fungal treats, Striegboirk chose to eat some of his own he had gathered from somewhere. Then, he had shared several with Sparky. Now, Sparky stared as Strieg's rat friend, who also ate several of Strieg's mushrooms, licked the cannibal priest's filthy clothes. Some snot residue or something had attracted the rodent. Gorvgo stared at the whole scene like an idiot, doing nothing. As the firespeech consumed more of Sparky's vision, he heard a faint roaring sound, too. Like a bonfire, or a furnace turned to full blast! It vibrated Sparky's core oh so subtley with its basso thrumming.

Strieg wasn't sure where he'd gotten those last few mushrooms, and that was a shame. Because the visuality he was witnessing could not be more interesting. Slurry was chewing the fat priest's belly while Rabbi Hug moaned. Sparky was slavering over the arcane flames his new torch cast. The fat priest himself watched in frozen fascination as Strieg's faithful friend Slurry chewed away. Gobs was humming to himself and dancing the pee-pee dance before shushing himself for making noise...shushing himself. Plus, orange rain was falling inside the building, making everything it touched a lovely shade of fire for a moment before falling back up to do it all again. Yes, it was a true shame he had no idea where he'd found these wonderful mushrooms.

Bubbisa sighed, thinking to ask her fellows whether they wanted to risk the room or keep taking these deadly turns. She turned to look behind her and frowned in pure annoyance. Gobs was prancing in place like he was about to wet himself, Gorvgo stared at the rat as it licked his shirt, Sparky waved his hands in front of his face and giggled and grinned like a pure fool and Strieg rubbed his hands together over and over while muttering something about the patch he'd found in the upper back hall, with the red caps and long stems...? Then again, as Bubbisa once again faced forward, perhaps she didn't need to confer with this bunch of lackwits after all. Bubbisa returned to her ruminations and tried to ignore the shenanigans occurring behind her.

Gorvgo, Horror save 1d20(3)+7=10, fails. Gorvgo is getting weirder and weirder. He stares in fear for several rounds.
Sparky, Strieg, you've eaten too many mushrooms, your senses are impaired by vivid hallucinations for several rounds
Gobs knows what he's got going on, and he seems freaked and twitchy
Bubbisa, your troupe are all wigging out... sorry. Good luck...

Bubbisa continued to weigh her options, but she underestimated the anxiety of her followers. Gobs' dancing reached a frenetic, shaking pace and he suddenly lurched towards the room, as if some force were dragging him there. With a yelp, he stumbled into the room.

Immediately, the purple-black flames, now so familiar to all the goblins, shot up in sheets, illuminating the walls and giving the room definition. The great column in the middle of the room was bone-white and soared perhaps twenty feet tall with a base nearly as broad. Atop the column, barely below the 30' ceiling here, rose a single mis-shapen skull. Whatever creature it once was, it's macabre orientation left the blood cold and knees weak while the viewer gazed upon it. Up close, one noticed that the column was formed from stacked and bound bones. Larger bones such as the hips and thighs formed the base, with increasingly finer bones being used as the column rose, until teeth and finger bones held aloft the grim skull. Scattered throughout the column, used as corner joins many times, were countless human skulls. Their blind stares were less unnerving than the constant chattering of their teeth as the flames swept up the column and alit upon the gleaming skull surmounting everything.

The floor itself was polished stone, spotted with spattered blood and gore as well as the smears only left behind when someone dragged a bleeding corpse. Underneath the grime and gore was a simple design scratched into the stone, goblin characters of worship and praise in a circle around the column's base.

No sooner had Gobs entered than his sword rasped free of its scabbard, a fell purple glow not seen by the others before this now limning the blade. He brandished the blade at the column with a flourish and the purple-black flames lighting the skull at the top flickered in seeing response. Green radiance that blurred the air around it began arising from the goblin characters and Gobs shielded his eyes from the shimmering glare. From within the circle small shapes floated into view. Skulls, floating up out of the floor. Baleful red gleamed from their empty eye sockets.

"Bubbisa!" Gobs shouted as he squared himself for battle. "Zog lives! he shrieked and leaped through the green radiance to land within the circle of goblin characters. He slashed at a diving skull, barely missing as it veered away at the last second.

Gorvgo felt the madness running through him and the fear seemed to dissipate as words echoed in his skull.
"Snap put of this you fat little idiot!" The voice was the familiar one of Hug.
"Rabbi Hug!" Gorvgo shouted, "Look! Maybe those are ur brothers! We should catch thems!"
Gorvgo ran towards the room as Hug shouted, "Those are not my brothers imbecile! Destroy them! We need that pillar!!"

Ooc Gorvgo will double move next to Gobs and pull out his chain to prepare for the onslaught

Gorvgo whipped his chain free as he rushed to join Gobs, pushing through the shimmering green radiance. It felt as if the weird glow gnawed at Gorvgo's brain, trying to get out rather than in though. He shoved Rabbi Hug into his sleeve pocket and brandished his chain, back to back with Gobs.
"I am pleased you came, Gorvgo. This is Zog!" A skull zipped past, and another and another. A quick count alerted Gorvgo to more than a half-dozen threats within the circle, inscribing a tight ring around the whole column just wide enough to allow a pair of goblins to stand beside each other touching shoulders. The skulls were malformed and streaked a black-purple energy behind them, not unlike the flames that infested this ruin.

As Gorvgo reached Gobs' side, the alchemist lashed his blade at a skull that stooped too close, chipping it in a shower of bone-and-purple-black-energy fragments. The skull careened away to nearly collide with another of its kind. "Gorvgo! Zog defends the skull up top. It belongs to me! I must reach the top. I climb, you deal with skulls!" Sword still in hand, Gorvgo began climbing the column, making his way madly up as the skulls flew past. Three of them managed to tear away hunks of Gobs flesh, undeterred by the ineffectual swings of the climbing goblin.

In the hall, Bubbisa watched as Gobs shook off the bites, looking as if he intended to keep climbing despite the blood running down his back. As Sparky and Strieg edged closer and stared into the room, a dark stain began to grow on Gobs backpack, easily visible at this distance. Gobs seemed not to notice as he continued his ascent.
