Default Songs from the Hourglass Road

On the First Meeting with the Others

"Kender queen and gnomish thing, rooting through my sack...
Its better by far than a slippery sailor's blade pressed 'gainst my back!
This dwarvish lord, using a godly reward, hath cleared my name at last,
But his silent cousin with a great long hammer seems to be on a Word Fast!
They seem to be concerned, you see, about the elvish maid with child
So the group talked tough, and came across rough, when the met with Shayna in the wild!
But Branchala's servant brings gifts and song, not pain, trouble or grief...
So join with me and Krynn we'll save from this god-power grabbing thief!
Raistlin's deeds are just Apocalypse seeds, but in my heart I know we'll win
For the mage has forgotten that Heroes are rotten, and they want this planet still to spin
They take up weapons, the wield great spells, and they never back away from the fight!
Stopping the destruction, saving our world, Heroes we must do what's right!
And take this murderer with the hourglass eyes and crush his dreams with LIGHT!

Sung upon Wexayn'es initial contact with the other Starsisters and their Dwarven and Marine allies (as well as a kender of note, Ashtari Windglade). The song was meant to relieve tension among the group. who were at this time still quote suspicious of Wexayne-as-Shayna.

    Fighting the Poison Fruit Trees

Hack them! Slash them! Rotten fruit hurled and chucked and tossed!
Hew them! Cut them! Shake off their poisons lest we are all lost!
Chop them! Axe them! Brave Torvold stand and make them kindling!
Whack them! Attack them! Use that axe and make them look spindling!

Hot flame! Pure Fire! Arcane and divine sweep enemies from the fight!
Gilean's Blessing! Magical blasting! Take Zivilyn's Bane and burn it with light!
Mad men! Confused friend! What thoughts are now swirling in your head?
Crazed dwarf! Insane Sailors! Take back your wits before more blood is shed!

Sung while the party faced animate, foul-fruited trees wandering across the Plains of Dust. The fruit left behind a confusion-inducing stench on contact as it burst across several members of the party.

    Ashtari's Theme Song, verse 1...

A kender lass went to town, riding on a pony,
helped the innkeep with stuff from her pouches and named his new meal macaroni...
Kender lass keep it up, kender lass be helpful,
find folks' lost things in your pouches and with the town watch be CAREFUL!

An ongoing project of Wexayne's, the song is an ode to her friend Ashtari (sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle).

The Ballad of Strong Jhan Han-ree

I spend my days in lightless caves beneath the crust of Krynn
Hammer and pick and chisel quick, they create a mighty din...
Sweat on my brow, choked by rock dust I toil in forge and mine
Deep underground my hammer I pound, for I'm no caretaker of kine
Its for metals like gold and precious gems to hold that I labor in places deep
Its for Reorx I smith, me, my kin and my kith. Ever-hot my forge I keep.
Its for cleaving goblins, my axe. With my boots I leave tracks when my clan must march to war.
But a stein of beer is better, for my throat is wetter, like the nether caress of a whore*
Any challenge I'll face: dragon, merchant or mace. Including this Gnomish contraption before me.
I can dig faster. In THIS mine I'm the Master. And they call me Strong Jhan Han-Ree!
    chorus
Jhani limber up your shoulder, swing your pickaxe hard!
'Cause supports are breaking in your mine and that machine's magic'd by a wiz-Aard!
If you win this race you'll get the rights to mine purest gold!*
But if you lose, your clan's mine will be sold!

(sung to the tune "The Devil Went Down To Georgia") This old miner's song is a favorite among many camps and digs. It is contested as to whether it was humans or dwarves who penned it, but the wording seems to imply it is a dwarven tale originally.

    The Song of Wayreth

Easeful the forest, easeful its mansions perfected
Where we grow and decay no longer, our trees ever green,
Ripe fruit never falling, streams still and transparent
As glass, as the heart in repose this lasting day.

Beneath these branches the willing surrender movement,
The business of birdsong, of love, left on the borders
With all of the fevers, the failures of memory.
Easeful the forest, easeful its mansions perfected.

And light upon light, light as dismissal of darkness,
Beneath these branches no shade, for shade is forgotten
In the warmth of the light and the cool smell of the leaves
Where we grow and decay; no longer, out trees ever green.

Here there is quiet, where music turns in upon silence,
Here at the world's imagined edge, where clarity
Completes the senses, at long last where we behold
Ripe fruit never falling, streams still and transparent.

Where the tears are dried from our faces, or settle
Still as a stream in accomplished countries of peace,
And the traveler opens, permitting the voyage of light
As air, as the heart in repose this lasting day.

Easeful the Forest, easeful its mansions perfected
Where we grow and decay no longer, our trees ever green,
Ripe fruit never falling, streams still and transparent
As glass, as the heart in repose this lasting day.

Referenced by both Isciira and Shayna as they discussed strategy and lore on the Hourglass Road (passage of the Plains of Dust)

On the Plains, waiting for Kegs

"Oh Beer is bread in liquid form,
I drink it when its cold and I drink it when its warm.
It gets me loose I feel so good,
So I order me a pitcher like y'knew I would
A bucket hits my table and its full to the brim
Pilsner ale or lager based on the barman's whim
Drinking it slow is for young waifs
I drink it fast; for me moderation chafes
Instead of dinner I pour me another
I'll share my pitcher with any hard-working brother
When folks ask why I drink instead of eat
I laugh at them as I cut my meat,*
    Cuz...
Beer is bread in liquid form...!"

A drinking song Shayna sang as she tormented Torvald to sing her a song along the Hourglass Road (passage of the Plains of Dust). One of many she knew.

    Lullaby for Isciira's Unborn Child

Hush tiny baby, don't cry or squirm
Momma's gonna summon you a nice song bird
and if that sweet song bird won't sing, momma's gonna craft you a magic ring
And if that magic ring doesnt last
That too is ok; momma saw it in her scrying glass
So quiet yourself and slip off to sleep
Momma's precious bundle shouldnt make a peep
Dream through the night, learn to play under the stars
Momma the Wizard has funny stuff in jars
Don't you fret and never you worry
Wrap yourself in your blanket and snuggle with a pet that's furry
Momma's got her eye on you all the time
She'll keep you safe from fire and rime
She'll help you learn and watch you grow
Until its you with a little one in tow
But to Momma's heart her babe you'll always be
One day, with your own child, this you will see."

Written on a divinely-inspired moment, Wexayne offered it to Isciira as amends for threatening her Starsister's child in a moment of weakness and fear. Wexayne intends to sing it whenever she is in the presence of a child at least once. In perpetuity.

    Battling the Silvanesti Kirath

In shadows hidden, great green boughs their roof, the children sang alone
When heroes came, they came unbidden, and the children feared for their arbored throne
But in foolishness, the children clung, knowing not the damage they dealt
So the heroes' hands were forced to fight and the children their anger thus felt
In sylvan glades, bows and blades whisked free and drew much blood
But the gods peered down, faces struck into frowns, their pawns were dropping into the mud
So they shattered the air, crushed the children with despair, for this foolishness must end
The gods will take note, as sound issues from my throat, and aid to us they will send
Did the children not see blood seeping from their tree, a sign of Krynn's demise?
The gods' strength we have, and their healing touch a salve; these children are simply not wise

Wexayne and company were cruelly set upon in ambush as they tried to diplomatically reason with the senseless Silvanesti menace. In the moments before Magnolia Starchaser changed everything, this was their battlesong.
