    Maxavel

Patting out the various bits of fire still on her, Max takes stock. "Well. That was unpleasant. Let me tend to some of those wounds."

Max uses the staff on those she hasn't today*, and wanders around the room. "Hmm...smells pretty good in here now. Which one of us do you suppose that is?"

She looks around at the skeletons and bag.

*ooc: uses staff on gilthanias, garth, thorn, and rough

In the woods of 'Hopeful Vale' somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains south of Pax Tharkas, Mid Morning of 14 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

The battle in the woods reached a quick conclusion as the band of protectors of the freed prisoners of Pax Tharkas ambushed a patrol from the Red Wing of the Dragon Armies….

Gerald Doorne, a newly made squire of the Knights of Solamnia landed a solid blow on the big, spell-casting Bozak Draconian, coating his blade in green blood and drawing a hissing curse from the foul creature. The veteran warrior then did his own cursing in pain as the Dragon-man muttered a few words of magic and a pair of glowing, Magic Missiles slammed into the veteran warrior. Sir Gavin uth Kallin then quickly ended the fight as his flashing blade quickly slashed the Bozak twice and the creature stiffened up and in a split second its flesh fell off of its skeleton and then the skeleton exploded outward, sending fragments that sliced painfully into both Solamnic Knights*….

Elsewhere, the 4 surviving Hobgoblins engaged the other members of the band of Freedom Fighters, with one falling to a feathered arrow launched from Far-shot, though the Plainsman's second arrow missed; and a blow from the Hand-ax wielded by the veteran Plainsman Ranger Hawkwind...

A second Hobgoblin ducked under Graziana's spear thrust and then slammed his own spear into and through the fierce young woman, drawing a look of shock and pain from the fighter, before she fell to the ground and passed away from this plain of existence...

The Hobgoblin had no time to gloat however as Erik the Cleric, yelling in rage, rushed over and slammed his mace into the side of the monster's head, bashing its skull in and ending its days in an instant….

The last two Hobgoblins saw the carnage, and both turned and immediately began to flee. Far-shot drew an arrow and took a deep breath while Hawkwind raised his Hand-axe, clearly about to hurl it. Erik and Gavin had no missile weapon on them while Gerald looked down and saw poor Graziana's spear lying nearby….

*Gerald took a total of 11 points of damage, he is currently at 20 of 31 HPs

Gasping in pain from the Bozak's magic missile attack, and then again as the exploding corpse hurled bone fragments into his body, Gerald stumbled back.

Hearing someone scream out in pain, Gerald turns in time to see Graziana go down to a hobgoblin. He spots the two remaining hobgoblins turn and flee, and noticing the two plainsmen readying their weapons in an attempt to cut off the fleeing hobgoblins, he grabs Graziana's fallen javelin and shouting in anger, hurls it at one of the hobgoblins.

OOC: Gerald attempts to throw the spear at one of the hobgoblins it appears to him that the two plainsmen are not aiming for, if he can determine that

Lays on the ground gritting his teeth as if trying to say something and not cry out at the same time. At the touch of Max's staff, he does relax a little and lay slightly more still, but continues to tremble for a short while before he slowly gets to his feet. He seems somewhat slower, as if checking to make sure everything is working like it is supposed to. He is starting to show his age, it would seem. Stubbornly he bends over and picks up his staff, wincing visibly, though he would never admit it.

He takes a deep breath and looks at Vale. "I'm the fool? You doorknob! You're the ones that saw that metal beast and rushed out to shake hands with it. You're all going to be the death of me..." For a moment, one might think he was genuinely ready to pommel any one of you, but you see a slight gleam behind his eyes. No, this was the look of a parent who has just been scared by seeing his kids in a dangerous situation and somehow still proud to see them make it out alright.

He turns a slightly softer eye to Max. "Thank you, Little Sister, and thank you to your Goddess. You both have a gifted touch."

Inside the ruins of 'Skullcap'; somewhere in the swampy plains south and east of 'Hopeful Vale' somewhere in the Kharolis Mountains south of Pax Tharkas, approximately 12:20pm of 14 Hiddumont (October), 351 AC

Maxavel uses her blessed Staff to alleviate some of the damage done to Gilthanas*, Garth**, Thorn*** and Rough**** while everyone catches their breath and assesses the situation....

Everybody is still pretty battered, the young Paladin, Vale and Max herself are probably the worst off; but no-one is in any danger of immediately collapsing or bleeding out, so that's a small comfort. Taking a look at the two battered skeletons; they can see the Kender skeleton is clutching a dusty-but-not-rusty dagger with a large, bright yellowish-orange gemstone set in the pommel and engraved words in Solamnic on the blade. Max and Garth can tell that the words read 'Sun's Fire'. Beyond this, the only other thing of interest near the Kender's skeleton was the dusty Hoopak staff with rotted out material that had once been its sling and a group of half-a-dozen or so little figures in a half-rotted pouch that lay near the poor Kender's hip bone....

The human or elven Skeleton had a dusty-but-not-rusty ring on one of its fingers that had no visible markings or gems or engravings, but did have a flattened area on the 'top' of the ring, which would point towards something if the hand was made into a fist. The skeleton also still had the dusty, rotted remnants of voluminous red robes around it, which Gilthanas and Vale both thought looked an awful lot like the kind of Robes that Wizards of the Neutral Order of High Sorcery commonly wore. In addition, the large bag that looked as if it had been tossed by the human/elf skeleton....possibly to prevent being burned; was covered in dust but not rotted in anyway and certainly seemed to contain something....

Walks over to the kender and kneels down examining the dagger and then the contents of his pouch. "Let's have a look at what fell into your pouch my poor little friend... Hope you found this an interesting way to go..." he mutters to himself as he looks through the kender's treasures curiously.

Looking at the general state of the rest of the party and taking his own ravaged body into account, Vale suggests what nobody else seems willing to, "I know this isn't the most cozy place in existence, but perhaps we should find a secure nook somewhere and set up camp to nurse our wounds and recharge a bit before moving on. Who knows what other evils lurk in this unholy place!"
