The semifinals are over! Salinus traded blows with Degamar in the Heart of Magic in Bastion. After four rounds and eleven hits from Salinus, Degamar succumbed. On to the finals!!!

WHO WILL BE THE CHAMPION? Will Salinus take out Luthen? Will Luthen continue his three round domination? Answers soon!!!

I know you've been waiting on tenterhooks, fair readers, but a Champion has been found! After 21 rounds and about 2 hours, SALINUS IS THE VICTOR!

Congratulations to Salinus, and great job to everyone who played. It was super fun, and we even got a little video and some pictures. We had a few non-players around, and they were also great sports with the whole watching people who play D&D.

I'm sure Tauren will type something, so thanks for reading the updates if you did!

Let me guess. 20 of those rounds one of them was in a resiliant sphere?

I guest DM'd the last round. It was nuts. Summoned Elder Elemetal went after Salinus who hid in buildings while the monster began knocking down two out of the three buildings. It got crazy...

Yeah, this was a pretty epic weekend gaming-wise for us. Over the next few weeks I will start adding the detailed accounts of the battles to this thread for posterity. pirategirl was taking notes in almost every fight so you guys will definitely get some highly detailed round-by-round breakdowns!

We need to load up the video to Youtube (privately of course), and then post a link here maybe?

I'd like to investigate the quality of said video before putting it up anywhere. Plus, it crapped right before the big finale so I think it would kind of be a waste of time for people.

    Default Remember This Thing?

Well, it's been a while since our Contest of Champions wrapped, but I said I would post the round-by-round breakdowns so here goes! Keep in mind I'm going to stick purely to crunch here. Writing these up as any kind of mini-narrative would be way to time-consuming and sort of defeat the spirit of the thing, I think.

First Round, Fight #1 – Salinus vs. Pang
The highest rated combatant in each fight rolled to determine the random battlefield. In this case it was Salinus. He rolled the Guild of Escorts in Kalaman. They would be fighting on the map where Reichert was killed by the Whitescale Society assassins in-game. As the lowest rated combatant rogue got to pick his starting position on the map – one of four designated spots. Once everyone was placed, we rolled Imitative. Salinus won.

Round 1 - Starting us off with a laugh Salinus the Player had Salinus the Character lay down in the bed in his room as a pair of move actions. Keep in mind that at this point in the combat neither fighter could see each other. They were in separate rooms, something rogue did deliberately when he picked his starting point to give his character a few rounds to prepare.

Pang activated his ring of force shield as a free action, cast haste on himself as a standard action, and moved to the closest exit as a move action.

Round 2 – Salinus got out of bed and moved to his closest exit as a pair of move actions, drawing his +1 wounding trident and Fey Bane, his +1 cold iron short sword as he did so. Pang cast divine power on himself as a standard action and opened the door as a move action.

Round 3 – Salinus moved into the hallway that all three rooms emptied into as a move action and assumed total defense as standard. Pang used a Heroic Surge to close the distance to Salinus and then made a full-round attack. He used all three of his attacks to attempt to disarm Salinus of a melee weapon. He failed each time. However, he did not draw any Attacks of Opportunity thanks to his Improved Disarm feat.

Round 4 – Salinus entered a barbarian rage and unleashed a full-round attack of his own on the irda oracle of Zivlyn. Attack #1 hit with the trident for 8 points of regular damage and 2 points of Constitution damage (which resulted in an additional 14 damage). Attack #2 hit with the short sword for 7 damage. Attack #3 hit with the trident for 10 damage, 2 Con, and 14 more damage. Attack #4 hit with the short sword for 10 damage, but Salinus missed with his next attack with the trident. He actually fumbled his final attack with the weapon, which I ruled was now stuck in a nearby wall.

Pang cast defensively and succeeded in buffing himself with bear's endurance as a standard, bumping his Con back up to a 10. He then used another Heroic Surge to attempt to disarm Salinus and this time Pang succeeded! Both fighters now had only their fists!

Round 5 – Well, until the sea elf used a standard action to retrieve his trident, provoking an Attack of Opportunity from the irda. Pang actually hit him successfully for 17 points of damage. Undaunted, Salinus burned another Heroic Surge for a full-round attack. He immediately Quick Drew Grave-Eyes and cut loose. His missed his initial strike with the recovered trident, but hit with his dagger for 10 damage. However, he landed Attack #3 with the trident for 7 points of damage and 1 point of Con. I guess the other hits with the trident were criticals? pirategirl's notes don't say. Attack #4 with Grave-Eyes hit for 11 damage, followed by two misses with his trident.

Pang cast hold person defensively, but Salinus made his Will save. The irda then took the Dargonesti warrior's wounding trident away from him with another successful disarm.

Round 6 – Salinus countered with another full-round attack. His first strike with his dagger missed, but his punch for 7 damage landed, taking Pang out. There's something ironic about the fighter/mariner/barbarian defeating the monk/cleric with punch.

It was at this point rogue realized he had forgotten to make his extra attacks via the haste spell he cast in Round 2. I'm not sure it really would have mattered much and considering this was rogue's first combat with Pang something was bound to be forgotten. Overall I'd say as the tournament dark horse, Pang gave a good accounting of himself!

First Round, Fight #2 – Lily vs. Luthen
Since Lily was the highest rated combatant in this fight pirategirl rolled for the battlefield and got the Belmonte family home in Palanthas. This was the scene of a dramatic attack by a bone devil sent by Chemosh to kill Simone and her family. It also introduced Titan to the group.

The Belmonte cottage was the central building on the map, flanked by two more small homes. The rest of the map was open street.

    Lily won the Initiative.

Round 1 – Inside one of the cottages Lily cast aid on herself and moved towards the door. Luthen immediately cast summon monster VIII.

Round 2 – Retrieving the Wanderer's Harp from her backpack, Lily used it to cast dimension door, putting herself directly into combat with the wizard. As his newly appeared greater earth elemental closed in on Branchala's champion among the kender Luthen cast a defensive power word stun. Lily failed her save and was now helpless for two rounds.

Round 3 – The earth elemental charged Lily, but somehow missed. However, Luthen took a 5 ft. step away from his opponent and cast disintegrate on her. Lily failed her Fort save, took 119 points of damage, and died.

I honestly did not expect that battle to end so quickly or so handily in the wizard's favor. pirategirl herself also admitted to being to cocky here. Live and learn, I suppose.

Or die and fight with another character.

    Whatever!
