So I have talked about it for months, and I have finally had the time to put together my first Key of Destiny campaign. I have a pretty impressive group of PC's, and the coolest part is they have never gamed in the Dragonlance setting before. So while it is great to catch their first reactions to everything Krynn, it has been a daunting task of taking players aside to give them a "crash course" in the rich history of my favorite world. Regardless, for people ignorant to the setting, they have taken to it like a fish to water. We have had two sessions, and they have done their characters justice. So without further ado, the players:
Nasiak, male Irda sorcerer 1:
NG medium humanoid (shapeshifter)
HP: 2 AC: 12 Init: +2 Speed: 30ft
Fort: -2 Ref: +2 Will: +4
Abilities: Str 8, Dex 14, Con 6, Intel 14, Wis 13, Cha 17
A skinny and sickly 100 year-old youth, Nasiak was part of a small experimental Irda colony in the southern range of mountains gracing the Northwestern tip of the Ambeon (Silvanesti) Forest. Only numbering seven irda, their primary mission was to keep watch and observe the happenings of the more barbaric races influencing Silvanesti, Blode and the Khur Desert. Since the end of Chaos War, the Irda people decided they would never again be threatened like their kin on the destroyed home island of Aianatha. Though only Nasiak's mother (the colony's Protector) knew of the true mission, much information was gathered over a 20-year period.
Being different from other irda, Nasiak loved taking walks and exploring the mountain ranges. Quirks like this and other issues such as him not embracing High Sorcery when the gods returned confounded many of his kin. But time passed on, until the fated day when Nasiak was on one of his hikes and subsequently caught by human raiders. Not thinking to shape shift, Nasiak was bound, gagged and put in a cage. The raiders then began moving east towards the desert. Days passed, and as Nasiak was sleeping during the night, the pitch of battle sounded. Magical fire burned away the tent he slept in, and there was his Protector, as she smashed the cage with a spell. Nasiak screamed in agony as he saw her shot with arrows. With her dying breath, she gave him a backpack, and shoved him through a Dimension Door, coming out far from the battle. Hours passed, and Nasiak returned to the site. Everyone was dead. Now he wonders the Khur Desert, lost, trying to find his way in an uncaring world.
Uther Aristaeus, male human cleric of Kiri-Jolith (Strength/War) 1:
LG medium humanoid
HP: 9 AC: 15 Init: -1 Speed: 20ft
Fort: 3 Ref: -1 Will: +5
Abilities: Str 16, Dex 9, Con 13, Intel 12, Wis 17, Cha 13
Feats: Education, Endurance
Bonus Feats: Martial Weapon Prof: Longsword, Weapon Focus: Longsword
Hailing from Elmwood in Solamnia, Uther is the son of a successful widower weapon smith. Wanting to follow in his father's footsteps and take up the family trade, Uther was crestfallen when his father would hear nothing of it. Instead he encouraged him to understand the torment such weapons brought unto the land by making him study the history of Solamnia. His father’s belief was that politics and war would soon tear the world apart, and he pressed this realism on Uther for his entire childhood. Uther became well educated, but also withdrawn and somewhat negative. Especially after his father remarried, and took his stepbrother for his apprentice.
But his life changed for the better. His stepmother Evelyn gave birth to Naela, and Uther had a new found sense of optimism as he helped raise his half-sister. Time passed, as they both grew older, but things were not to be perfect. A new thief's guild moved into town, strong-arming most businesses including his father's. As they continued to fight for the town's rights, matters became worse, and an attack was made on their family. Uther's father and stepmother were killed, and the smithy burned to the ground. In a panic, Uther left with Naela for Palanthas, where his stepbrother had started his own business. Just as he made it to the city proper, readying to knock on his brother's door, the world went dark.
He awoke to the scent of saltwater and perspiration. A pounding headache and chills ran through his body. He had been shanghaied into slavery on a minotaur merchant ship. He had lost everything he had come to love in his life in what felt like only an instant. But he persevered, and worked hard. Proving the minotaurs that he was no weakling, he won their grudging respect. This brought about the attention of Galabad, a Kazelati minotaur who was secretly a cleric of Kiri-Jolith. Galabad found enough respect for Uther to share with him the secrets of the Great Bison. Late at night, below decks, they would often discuss the concepts of what soon became Uther’s choice of faith. With his clerical training complete, he was given a medallion of faith and explained how he must proceed in his life with honor, and goodness. That he must show the world the true power of Kiri-Jolith. Galabad believed Uther possessed the wisdom and spirit necessary to accomplish great things in the name of their god, and Uther had no intentions of letting his friend and mentor down.
From this point on over the next few months, he worked very diligently to earn enough steel to buy his freedom. And so he earned his freedom and was released in Felinosti. At this time, Ambeon is under great turmoil. To escape this evil, Uther fled to the north as well. His heart guides him home to Palanthas to search for his sister and stepbrother. Getting there, however, will be no easy task.
Sylus Renaldi, male half-elf ranger 1 :
CG medium humanoid
HP: 11 AC: 17 Init: +8 Speed: 30ft
Fort: +5 Ref: +6 Will: +2
Abilities: Str 16, Dex 18, Con 16, Intel 10, Wis 14, Cha 5
Feats: Improved Initiative
Born to a small community living in Pax Tharkas, Sylus was the product of a Silvanesti father and human mother. Shortly after his birth, his father disappeared without warning, and was never heard from again.
Sylus grew up hearty and strong, as he helped his community in hunting and gathering for food. He actually became an accomplished woodsguide and tracker in his own way, but he was never truly accepted by his peers for his elven heriatage. On his 29th birthday, tragedy struck as his mother became deathly ill. To boot, armies lead by the Knights of Neraka moved into the area, forcing the small community out of the fortress as they were conquering the elven forest.
His mother was dead days later, and his community became a loose group of refugees. Never truly accepted as his mother was his only anchor to his people, Sylus struck out on his own, moving eastward to no rhyme or reason. Over the period of a year, he trecked through the wilderness, stopping here or there until he crossed the Northern edge of the Plains of Dust. Still seeing nothing to anchor his wayward soul, he continued on the skirting the edge of Sable's Swamp and the Ambeon (Silvanesti) Forest towards the mountains, and then east to the desert of Khur.
On his way through the desert, he found a Khurish man accosting a beautiful young woman. Attempting to save her, he won the battle with her assailant, receiving a nasty slice down his face for his efforts. The woman ran off before he could talk to her, and Sylus didn't attempt to chase her down. He continued on his treak, setting out for the nearby city of Pashin.
Taoran Nimblefeet, male true kender rogue 1 :
CN small humanoid
HP: 6 AC: 17 Init: +4 Speed: 20ft
Fort: +1 Ref: +7 Will: +2
Abilities: Str 8, Dex 18, Con 11, Intel 15, Wis 13, Cha 15
Taorin Nimblefeet has your average true kender outlook on life: irrepressible, curious and putting his fingers where they don't belong. But that is where his traits stop, and the kender's sense of humor begins. Taoran takes great pleasure in annoying people to no degree. Though most kender innocently ask questions, he has a purpose of confounding others. Even members of his own kind don't enjoy associating with him for too long.
Taoran has traveled for so long, he can barely remember where he is from. He was barely walking when his parents fled Kendermore with him from the evil Overlord Malystryx, and he left them not too long afterwards due to them being sticks in the mud (afflicted). He now finds himself traveling through what he thought was the Silvanesti forest, because he always did want to see elves. But he only found minotaurs and Dark Knights fighting each other. Taoran has had fun teasing both sides, putting his hoopak and caltrops to good use, then running away at just the right moment. Though he is now becoming bored with the scenery.
