    Default Draconian Old Age

In the appendix of Draconian Measures, in the summary of the draco history, it says that the dracs were dying of old age...I've never noticed this before and never knew they would die of old age so soon...Anyone have any more info on this?

Uziels site has this to say: "Draconians are immune to human diseases and live to be 1,000 years old. (The maximum age of a draconian can only be estimated, as draconians haven't been around long enough to test it by dying of old age.)"

The Draconian Measures appendix is old rules anyway.

I remember so, I believe it was in DL Monstrous Compendium from AD&D, but not sure...

Well, if ever anyone sayis that changing edition *allows* changin expectation of life... well, I'll make a 4th edition of D&D which will say that humans live 200 years and elves 50, and see everyone complaining... :p

No, here the problem is another contradcition in AD&D... (i believe)

Correctamundo. My source on that was taken from the DL Monstrous Compendium as well as the Tales of the Lance boxed set.

All the early sources actually concur on the draconian lifespan. An amazing thing for Dragonlance....

Well, if one goes by the Dragonlance DM screen booklet, then dracs have a maximum lifespan of 600 years and reach venerable at 500.

Since that is the most recent notation of it...I would say that it would be the official one...

    That's generally how things go.

True enough. I'd agree that the DM Screen is the one to go by in gaming terms from now on. It could also be viewed in a similar light to the elf situation...

In DL, the lifespan of elves has been argued many times, especially when there are individuals like Silvanos who lived well beyond the length of time for average elves. Perhaps it a case of draconians live on average for 500-600 years, but have the capacity to live to around 1000 years.

Of course the other explanation is that all early sources stated that there was no clear indication of how long draconians truly lived for since they were a relatively new race, but it was believed to be around 1000. Perhaps in light of revelations made in the post War of the Lance period, or even during the Age of Mortals, it came to light that their lifespan is 600 years. Given that experimentation was made on draconians in detail by the overlords, it could have been discovered by magical means during this period. A likely explanation and it clears away the dreaded cobwebs of inconsistency...to some extent.

lol yes. It might be wispy bumfluff. But a beard is still a beard, and ancient elves certainly do get them.

    Anybody remember this:
In Jean Rabes Day of Tempest heroes go to tower (it has name, but can't remember what) in Beryls forest / Qualinesti. In there lives draconians, but "kind-of-a-peaceful" ones. They are leaded by venerable (=OLD) aurak!?!?!?

But draconians just can't get to be that old, NOT YET! After War of Souls (and that is years later from Day of the Tempest) it has been ONLY about 80 years when they were created.

BUT again - maybe some get older faster. Maybe first patches had some - well, problems and they got venerable/aged faster. Or maybe dark priests and mages tried to "boost" dracos, and created few little more powerful patches, but in expanse of something else (they didn't have long draconic age). I got the last idea from ancient computer game: Dark Queen of Krynn, where there was Enchanted Dragonians.
