    Default Warforged of the Lance

After looking at the Warforged from the Eberron Campaign Setting and also the slight expansion of them in the MM3, I've been seriously considering bring the Warforged into the world of Krynn, though I'm a bit unsure if they might clash with the flavor of the world. Of course, one of the ideas was to let the gnomes help create a few of them during the War of the Lance. (That unfortunately led to a joke about pygmy warforged units knocking all the draconians off their feet in battle.)

So any thoughts on the concept?

I personally absolutely hate the idea of incorporating non-Dragonlance setting-specific races into a Dragonlance campaign. It'd be like the Forgotten Realms stealing kender and tinker gnomes ... erm, whoops, they already did. But that's just me.

Anyways, if you were to incorporate warforged, one approach would be to make warforged unique. A singular invention that was the culmination of a gnomish life-quest, the creation of a sentient machine.

Depends. The Warforged are made out of adamantium or something, aren't they? Well, considering the rarity of steel in DL, a dead warforged character at lvl 1 sells for... how much do they weigh? I don't think they make a good race, period.

I like 'em as a race... just not for Dragonlance. Within the bounds of Eberron, they're great, and make perfect sense (because of the commonality of magic there, and the huge, 100 year long war that necessitated more warriors than any race could possibly churn out just using flesh and blood types...).

No, they're not made of Adamantium... theyre made of metal (likely steel), and "organic components" (the art seems to indicate that its wood). They have Feats to allow them to have the metal parts of themselves that constitute their armor be made of Adamant or Mithril.

All that said, on the whole... I just wouldn't do it. They're a fun race, but Dragonlance doesn't need to be Forgotten Realms, where everything anyone ever thought was cool for 10 minutes gets automatically added into the mix.

You know, this is a fantastic idea. Perhaps add to this that the warforged was created during the War of the Lance, and that his gnomish "father" was slain by the forces of evil. Perhaps he's got a sense of justice, or a thirst for revenge against those who killed the gnome.

From there, he could live throughout the ages, through the Chaos War, and through the War of Souls. A wandering soul, never accepted by humanity, and all alone.

In Conundrum one of the gnomes built himself a robotic Solamnic Knight power armor type thing. Not the same thing, but close.

A story like Mary Shelley's Frankenstein...it would be really interesting, but just as a one-shot. I agree with the others, I don't see them in Dragonlance.

    Cheers,

You know, you literally stole the words out of my mouth! If you dig enough (and you must not go too in depth, at it) you can find everything in FR...(brrrr)

Yep. I suspect that is the reason why most people either love FR, or hate it. Or at least a large part of the reason.

I think the issue with FR, is that it is major portal central with lots of constant planar immigration from different groups. So at any period of time anything could possibly show up there, but that is a different campaign and place.

Of course, relying on the gnomes was just one of the ideas that was being tossed around.

Another idea was that they were created by the Dark Queen's forces during the War of Lance, but tossed aside after proving initially too difficult to produce when compared to the Draconian process that went more smoothly.

A really wierd tangent was the initial production of warforged were developed in Istar during the Kingpriest's reign as sacred enforcer army units. Though that seems more like stacking blasphemy on the Kingpriest there.
