I am quite frankly, stunned, and outraged. I despised Hasbro and WoTC for their quantity over quality approach, and stopped purchasing their products a long while ago. But this, this tops it all.

I'll never forgive them for this.

I have a few questions, as the bell tolling fades. Will this forum still stand? If not, Trampas, would there be any way that the Nexus could have its own forum? I want this community to live. We have a great one. I'd like to keep in touch with all the people I've met here.

I'd also like to help. Is there anything a 21 year old DL fan with a penchant for writing, familiarity with gaming systems, and a brazen attitude can contribute to?

Give me something to do. Something that helps Dragonlance. We should all try to do something...

    Your turn, my friends.

this board is run by MWP, not wotc. and wotc doesnt shut down fan communities. note that the wotc board is still going.

Remember, only DL gaming is dead, not the novels. The best thing we can do is go back to the old ways. Fan made campaigns, fan detailed setting information, and fan discussions about everything DL. post to the nexus, post to the boards and the mailing list. DL will die only when the last DL fan dies.

[posted as Tal did ignore the above]

Novels arent dead. As for the License I am gonna say the same thing I said about Dungeon and Dragon mags. If WotC continues to produce quality products on their own I do not care who produces it. No offense to the fine workers at MWP but if WotC wants to make Dragonlance books on their own, and really they would be quite stupid to let it just die, then let them. All that matters to me is that there is a chance that we will get something in the future.

Like the glorious phoenix, Dragonlance will rise again!

Guys, I don't have a lot of time to comment on this tonight, but I wanted to post something here that I put in my newsletter...

My friends, this is indeed sad news and it may seem to some like a pronouncement of the next Cataclysm. Yet I make you this promise - Dragonlance gaming will not end.

We have walked this road before, back in the start of 2001, when WotC announced that DL gaming would be no more. We, in the fan community, came together and through our combined efforts, formed the Dragonlance Nexus. The Whitestone Council came together to run the site, and we stand ready to meet this challenge now.

Margaret Weis Productions will continue to create Dragonlance gaming products through the end of the year. Let's do our best to offer them support and wish them well in the future.

Let the cry ring forth, as it did in ages past...

While I agree that the Kalamar licence to display the D&D logo may not live too much longer, the setting itself is owned by Kenzer. That having been said, where did you see that they aren't allowed to make any more Hackmaster products? I couldn't find any announcements on their site to that effect, and I saw a few Hackmaster products scheduled for the next few months, out to July.

    Default Confused, baffled and angry

First, ugh! Just when a guy gets into the D&D side of DL, it dies on me! Wahhhhhhh! :(

But anyway, the confusion part. I don't know exactly, but can't MWP continue to produce DL gaming products on their own? If this was addressed in the thread, I am sorry.

few more things id like to add.

    1. i am willing to send 10 bucks, and will talk to others about pooling some cash. if it becomes a large amount we will need to do this a legal way. but i know about 30-100(some dont even play) that might drop cash for this. that aside, let us know if this can become real. i support this.

    2. it is my impression wotc wouldnt renew the license. IF it is MW/SP choice, then my opinion would change. but i would wonder at how she will take care of her people in MWP. which im sure she would. if she did choose to drop the license. then i wish her the best. either way, wish the best.

    3. i will not buy 1 single 4e product. for many reasons. over 2k on gaming books for 3.5 so far, and i havnt even run a game in krynn yet. that is the main reason.
another reason is. in 7-10 years 5th ed will be out. so that a whole new set of rules and BS i dont wanna deal with. i will finish off my 3.5 collection of DragonLance products. but i dont think i will buy any non DL products anymore.

a similar thing is happening to GuildWar Fans. GW2 is coming out next year. leaving all the gw1 fans screwed. after the investments i made on the games from gw1 i wont buy gw2, and i will see how long Anet supports us loyal gw1 fans, or if they are just another wotc or blizzard. so far my two favorite hobbies are being stomped all over and as a gamer, im pretty p'd off.

all this brings up the question. what is the future of gaming? Pay to Interact? something has to be done. or it will only get worse.

    Fan Boycot of 4th ed?

no. the way it worked is that WotC owns dragonlance, and MWP made an agreement to make DL books. WotC decided that they don't want MWP making DL stuff anymore, so that's the end of that. MWP can't legally make DL stuff of their own now.
