Shallow bay
The north sea winds blew into Shallowbay in the late afternoon. The sun was going down in the west it shimmered on the water as it sunk into the sea. It was still warm and many fisherman were returning home. the dock was a hive of activity as shops and stalls closed. children were called home and Tavens opened. Shallow bay had two such taverns the goldern Gate and the White gull. It was the white gull that drew the common folk of all types sailors, soldiers, fisherman and the likes. It was also the Tavern were the most rough houseing could be found. but the goldern Gate was the respected tavern one were you could go and not deal with drunks and brawlers, the guards made sure of this.
Shallow bay was run by the Empires apointed protector not by the Knights which protected places closer to their stronghold. The Empire had given them the right for that clearly for an ally that northian ergoth didnnt have or so it was said. The rumours of so many things became truth is said enough times. The empire had stationed maybe fifty men to protect Shallow bay the increase was to counter the sudden raids done along the cost by ther northian kin who were dark skined and prospered much from there weaker southian counterparts. Thus from Du'thora came the small army lead by a cavalier called Hawkeye a dark shallow man who had some northian ergothian somewere in his blood line. but the town became more peacefull despite the fears which people had of haveing the soldiers in the town with there young daughters.
There was many stalls and shops in town including a black smith, fletcher, bower, armour, and a small magic shop that only those with the know knew were to look found. But the Goldern Gate was the center of the town and it was hear that Erwind sat at the table nearest the bar a table empty but to be filled soon by friend friend he hadnt seen since last winter.

Philandus was a young eighteen year old who had just joined the solamnics, he was weedy and was about average in looks and muscularity to the rest of the population. He walked around in very basic armour, a vest and a bit of chainmail, one reason was, this was the basic armour requirement and second he couldn't afford anything else. He was a squire to an elderly knight of the Rose, Andrus Ironblade. He carried a longsword on him but also his flail.
Philandus walked into the Golden Gate and saw his friend Erwind. Getting ale he went over to his friend. "It has been a long time, Erwind." He sat down and said, "I hate being a Solamnic. My bloody tutors want me to learn a bloody longsword, when I prefer the flail, well you know that. And now because of that, I am being threatened with expulsion.
Well what have you been getting yourself into then."

Erwind sat at the oak table on a stool that seemed a bit un strudy under the weight of the young man in his Chain mail shirt with steel bracers and shin guards his helmet sat on the table in front of him. it had a nose peice and check protecters while it also was doned with a wispy plume of horse hair. The sword by his waist had short hand guards on the hilt. It was a double edged bladebut it wasnt his weapon of choce that was a light mace which was lashed to the round shield he wore on his back slung over like a quiver of arrows.
Erwind himself was of medium hight and build with long golden hair. he had a lean face maybe even guant. he had left for Hovost on Enstar last year to find his Sister only to learn she had been and gone. clues in the dark she had left. he had followed only to learn she had taken the test in the tower none spoke of. Faced with a dead end Erwind turned back and returned home. in time for the meeting he hadnt seen Philandus in a hole year and it seemed like forever.
"it has been a long time friend" he smiled as he grasped Philandus hand. In the manor of warriors. "he laughted at the idea of his friend learning the long sword he s had know him for a long time and new he could through a flail like no one else. he then raised his had for the bar maid and another drink. "the adventure you must have been on my friend"

Nodding her head to indicate to the two Knights sitting at the far table that she had seen the request for ale, Zoe wiped the sweat of her brow and turned to fill the flagons. Working as a barmaid at the Golden Gate for the passed couple of months gave Zoe a new respect for the working class, not used to manual labor she had fled her privelegd life of riches in her fathers house when it was decided that she should marry, and not by her own choosing. She had travelled alone in luxury by ship untill she was robbed of all her possessions and put to shore at the closest port when what she had paid for fair had run out. Alone in Shallow Bay Zoe was on the verge of theivery untill the owner of the tavern offered her a job, and here she was pouring ale, serving dinner and advoiding unwanted attentions of patrons, being a young single female would attract attention anywhere however when you add Zoe's flashing blue eyes, buxom curves and bright smile that made her pleasant company, Zoe recieved far more attentions than she wanted. Bringing the knights the ale Zoe quickly sidestepped a groping hand from another patron and set the flagons down on the table, " Will there be anything else gentlemen?" she asked with a smile.

Kale stepped through the door of the Golden Gate, having to duck his head a bit to allow for his height and girth. Kale Redoak was big for a human standing a little over six and half feet tall, his shoulders broad and his chest deep. As he came into the light of the tavern, he removed the leather cap of which he wore and shook out the his flowing deep red hair. As a child, his hair had reminded his mother of the autumn colors the oaks around their village took as the seasons changed, and had become his namesake. Kale, with his long strides, walked up to the bar and sat his pack down on the floor. Taking a seat, Kale dug in a pouch that hung from his belt and pulled out a few steel coins and laid them on the table. A few patrons of the tavern watched the big mans movements. Their eyes straying to the pack he had brought in. Seeing a bed roll, pick, and shovel all lashed to the outside, some smirked he was a miner of some sort. Kale paid no attention to those around him as he sat, smoothing out his breeches, and scracthing his beard. He looked about the room once to note the barmaid tending two knights. Waiting patiently for the maid to wait him, Kale brought forth his pipe and filled it. Strikeing a flint to light the pipe, Kale allowed himself to loose his thoughts in the past months travels.

Erwind smiled up at the bar maid she was getting alot of attention from other patrons and there sly hands. Erwind wanted to stare longer into her eyes but ddnt want to make her uncomfortable. Erwind even managed to catch a hand that was slowly aproching Zoe he quickly stared down the man with wandering hands. he felt like saying that her company might wouldnt go astray but instead he looked back into her eyes. "i have traveled far and a steak would be nice" he place the silver piece onto the table and the four copper peices for the drinks.
Erwind noticed the new comer a huge man he was hard to miss he believed he had seen him arive around the same time as him. He had the look of a hard traveler and proberly had ever done some sort of hard labouring job. ERwind admired men like that what he didnt like was the pompus richly dressed that all eyed the bar maid like a falcon as if she was a kill.

Nisa pushed her way into the golden Gate. Gods, it was nice to be home and among her friends again. She had taken a job as a body gaurd to the daughter of the empire but quit after only a month. Nisa couldn't stand the wining. She couldn't stand women who left their well being up to those around them.
Surveying the crowd of formilar faces, Nisa sees the one she is looking for and is pleasently suprise to see one she hadn't expected to see. She makes her way through the packed room greeting old friends as she goes. When she gets to the table, she pulls up a chair between Philandus and Erwind. "I haven't been in town for more than an hour, and I already have heard that you and Sir Andrus are not agreeing Philandus. About your chose of weaponry no less." She punchs him in the shoulder teasingly and winks. She flips her long brown hair and smiles at Erwind. "Its good to see you again Erwind. Did you find your sister?"

Zoe smiled a bright cheerful smile and nodded " Two steaks coming right up. " and recognizing the newcomer to the table added " And for you Nisa, I will bring you your regular drink. Welcome home." Then Zoe turned and headed back towards the kitchen to tell cook to prepare the meals. Tucking her blonde hair back behind her ears she returned to the bar to pour Nisa's drink when she saw the big man at the bar, even thought he was huge he had a nice look to him she thought and smiled at him " Hello there sir, welcome to the Golden Gate, what can I get for you?" she asked.

The barmaids voice brought Kale out of his thoughts as he puffed his pipe. He gave a slight smile and a nod as he pushed his money across the bar. "A meal if you have it, ma'am. Preferably hot. Bread, mutton, and the such. Oh, and a flagon of cool ale." said Kale his deep voice resonating throughout the tavern. "By the by, I need to make a some coin for further travel. You wouldnt happen to know of anyone needin' work done, would ya." he asked Zoe as he puffed his pipe. "I got strong back and aint afraid to sweat a little."

Erwind laughted at Philandus he had forgoten the cheer that Nisa brought him with her taunting of the knight or Squire as was his rank. he could never understand why someone would want to join the knight hood but his friends chose was his own and he wouldnt discarage him. mabee if Nisa stoped picking on him he might make a good knight some day. Erwind looked back at Nisa she haddnt changed a bit still the fine conferdnt women he always knew.
Ewind want to tell how his sister was a mage now but some things unnerved people he knew how magic made Philandus feel. "she has gone to contue schooling" it wasnt a lie he just wasnt telling the hole truth. and he knew a way to make her forget about pressing the issue on till he had to tell all. Erwind pulled a paper scroll from his pack and placed it on the table opened up.
THE NOTE

A girls got to eat and if going back to babysit some rotten little brat is the only way to make money for a woman with a sword, run me through right now. They made me wear a dress! Me, in a dress!" Nisa stood up and through back her cloak to reveal a tight red tunic and brown leggings. Around her small waiste sat a extravagently tooled belt with an impressive long sword in a silver sheath. "Could you imagen me in a dress?"
Over hearing Nisa's question, a good part of the crowd laughs. Nisa sits back down having a good laugh herself.

Pouring the big man's ale Zoe pursed her lips in thought " Hhmm..no, not offhand am I aware of anyone needing a worker." Setting the ale in front of him Zoe smiled and winked " But let me think on it a while and see if I can't come up with someone. Almost the whole village comes in here and I am sure to hear something." A little bell sounded in the background, it was cooks signal that the steaks were ready " Excuse me, I will be right back with your meal sir." And turning Zoe headed back to the kitchen. She gathered up the steaks and side potatoes and set them on a tray, after giving cook the man's order she went back out front, placed Nisa'a drink on the tray and proceeded to the table to set out the meals. " Here you go gentlemen " Zoe smiled " Best steaks in town, and of course for you Nisa, your regular." she said putting the drink down in front of the woman. Just as she was about to turn away, a hand snaked out of the crowd and grabbed her, hauling her back to land on a drunk patrons lap.

Kale nodded to the waitress, a little blush on his cheeks, and returned to his pipe. Kale picked up his ale, preparing to take a long swig, when a shout from the barmaid caught his attention. Kale turned in his seat to see what was going on. The barmaid was being groped upon by a drunken patron. Blood began to boil deep within Kale. He sat down his ale and stood to face the drunk. "I dont think the lady wants to sit with you mister. How about you let her go." he said, his knuckles clenched white. The autumn leaves werent the only reason for Kale's namesake, he had a terrible temper. Trying to approach the situation as calmly as he could, he flashed a coin between two fingers, "Here, I'll even buy you a drink. What do ya say? Let the lady go."

With her cheeks flaming red in embarrassment Zoe nodded " Um..y..yes, thank you." she muttered with her head down " Excuse me please" she turned and rushed out of the room. She needed a little time to gather her composure, she was used to the hand grabs and such however she was not used to people coming to her rescue when those things occured. " And what do I do, I run out of the room like an idoit." Zoe muttered. Looking up at the darkening sky she sighed at the soft colors of red and gold as the sunlight faded and the night slowly took over, how beautiful, she thought then pushed back her hair and went back inside the Golden Gate. With a last look at the dusky sky Zoe spyed the first star of the night twinkling down, she smiled wishfully " Oh how I wish for something more than this." she whispered.

As for being noble, well, I'm not certain about all that, but I appreciate your offer. And I accept." he smiled as he took Erwinds hand. Kale turned and grabbed his pack and ale from where he'd been sitting previous and took a seat at the table of companions. "My name is Kale Redoak, by the way. Blushing now that she had been overheard, Zoe looked up at the lone star twinkling down and gave a little laugh " Just childish dreams, I was wishing upon a star, though I have a good job here, a girl could aways wish for something more." something told Erwind he should have persued the matter but he was scared at makeing her uneassy. and so he when back in side and sat again in his seat. The group was three at the start of the night now with Kale if he decided to join they might just pass as a band of mercenaries. A tribes man a sell sword a squire and a ox of a man, if Kale could hold his own they might make a pretty penny of this. The pest races in the north east had captured many old cities and castles the plunder should be good the cities had been there since befor the cataclism in a time when Egoth was the might empire of Krynn.
Erwind had herd legioned of what he catacombs under the ancent cities might still hold. any thing they could find would be worth something. the only proberlem was the size of the evil armies. Ogres and goblins masses in these areas the knights would fight them if they ever attacked but never tried to drive them out. the new empire didnt just want protection he wanted the viel creatures sent from his klands to the abyss. And if the knights would not do that he would send his own army. This was where ERwind nisa Philandus and hopefully kale would be.

Kale said as he placed his two large hands on the table. "Everything I own in the world, lies right here in this pack." he said looking down. Philandus looked over at the others, he gave a pleading expression of helplessness, as if he was saying "Help". He looked over at Kale. "Is it just the sword you can use? It might help if you can use something in the mean time before we can get you a sword off the enemy." He looked again at the others to make sure this was possible.
"I am really sorry, I would give you my sword as you are the needy and the knighthood would approve, but I am bad enough with the longsword that I need the practice", he said looking at the longsword and giving it a scowl. Still a little flustered Zoe went back to the kitchen to retrieve the big mans meal, breathing deeply to calm herself, she loaded a tray with the steaming pile of meat and potatoes then headed back into the common room. Taking a practiced look ahead at the table she noticed that the table looked to be a little dry and added three more flagons of ale to the tray. Manuvering around tables made Zoe light on her feet and she set the heavy tray down upon the table with ease " Here you are Sir" she said with a smile as she set the hot meal down in front of Kale " Enjoy your meal, compliments of the house and my way of saying thanks." Zoe passed around the ale and looked at the group, " You all look excited about something.." If you need anything further just holler." she smiled and turned to head back to the bar. Hard work and a steady pay were all the adventure she would get out of life for the moment and sometimes working at the Golden Gate was certainly an adventure to be sure, Zoe had heard enough stories of battles fought, riches won and enemy defeats to enable her to have an exciting life in her dreams, casting herself as the heroine of the stories but the reality of drunken slurs and pawing hands always brought her back to the harsh reality. Still, she mused, it would be nice to live out one of the dreams of heroic deeds that she played out in her mind.

Erwind razed his hand up to touch the barmaid as she walked pust but did so softly so not to scare her. "Ecuse me can i have another ale" he held onto her hand for a moment but not too long to make her feel uncomptable. "and did you want another Kale or are you heading of too?".

Zoe flushed a little at the gentle touch of the tribesman, " Of course you can have some more ale" she grinned then turned towards the man, Kale she heard his name spoken " And would you like another or is it a room for the night you'll be wanting?" Zoe gestured towards Kale's pack with her hand " There are rooms available upstairs Sir." Stealing a quick glance at Erwind " And for you as well good sir, if you should so choose to stay." The crowd in the common room was stating to thin out and the previous noise level was now down to a dull roar making conversation more enjoyable when a person did not have to yell to be heard. Rolling her shoulders to relieve some strain, Zoe patiently waited for the men's reply.

Everyone hears musical female laughter come from the table beside them, if they are to look over they see human female with dark tanned skin. Blue eyes that are shown brightly from her dark face and dark brown hair that looks to have blond highlights. There a big gold hoops in her ears, and many gold and silver jeweled rings on her hands. And she wears clothing like many of the seafareres do but she fill it out better. She is musculer, but still has her feminen curves. And she has a slightly exotic look to her. Her darkly colored lips curve into a smile as she looks at the group who is left, she speaks with a little bit of an accent "Now tell me, which one of you thinks you know how to sail a boat?"

Philandus held onto to Nisa shoulder as he collided with a water barrel outside the barracks, he giggled and flopped down on to Nisa's shoulder, "I forgot all the soldiers are out at a feast, but I am being punished for my appaling long sword and so I had to stay behind. Nisa could you help me to my bed please and you can stay if you want." Philandus leaned forward to Nisa's face and did a very obvious and drunken wink that lasted for a couple of seconds. He then turned and walked into the door of the barracks, he put his hand to his head and said in a surprised manner, "Ooh" and then he fell back as if he was a manakin that has been pushed over, still his hand to his now bump and with the shame expression of surprise on his face.

He hadnt noticed the sailor befor but he had had his mind on many other things, it acured to him that maybe he should have taken notice of this lady sooner. Shaking her head at the Philandus, she helped him to his feet. "You fool. If your not quit, we're going to get cought." She pushed to door open and hauled Philandus inside.
It was dark in the barricks. It was well past midnight and some of the older knights and almost all of the squires were finding their way to bed. The feast was still going on and the ale still ran freely but the vetrans could not handle staying out so late anymore.
Nisa and Philandus snuck around corners to avoid being detected and they may have been compleatly home free but the fact that all of the squires shared one large room. They stumbled into the shared quarters and stopped. Nisa looked at the left then the right. "Philandus, which is your bed? Oh, never mind." She dragged him to the first occupied bed and gently (or as gently as Nisa did anything) kicked the boy. He looked up at Nisa with utter shock. "Sorry for waking you, but which bed is Philandus?" The squire rubbed his eyes and looked at her again as if he thought she had been nothing but a bad dream but since she didn't disapear, he pointed to the far right. "the last bed that'a'way." then he pulled the covers over his head.
They made their way to the corner where Nisa flung Philandus onto the bed. She pulled his boots off and through a woolen blanked over him.
Outside the room, Nisa could hear the sound of metal boots patroling the hall. Soon someone would check on the quires and she had no intrest in having to explain why she was in the young mens bed chamber. Since the night was warm, a window had been left open above Philandus bed. No doubt how Philadus snuck out in the first place. Nisa stepped on Philandus bed, climbed out the window and made her way home.

Kale nodded his head in reply to the offer of another ale. He was about to answer on the room, when Arshella made her introduction. Kale studied her as she read the note. Hearing that she too, would be coming along Kale nodded his head in approval. "This will prove to be an interesting journey no doubt." he said as he stood up and slapped his belly. "Well," he continued, a smile on his face, "that was a fine meal. And I think I'll take that ale to go. Uh, where might I get a key to my room?" he asked as he shouldered his pack. Taking his key and his ale, Kale turned to Erwind, "I ll be on the dock at dawn to start working. The Sea Wolf you said? Ah, dont worry, I ll find it." he said turning towards the stairs. "I ll see you on the dock." he finished, as he ducked a bit to climb the stairs.

Seeing that Erwind and Arshella were the last two patrons of the common room Zoe walked over to the table. " Um I am sorry to interupt, but the Golden Gate will be shutting it's doors in a few minutes. There are still some rooms available if you wish to stay the night." she said with a side glance at Erwind. Zoe turned to the next table and started to pick up the empty pitchers and flagons then she stiffened her shoulders and turned to face them again " Excuse me but I couldn't help but overhear you earlier...are you going on an adventure?" she asked hesitantly but with an excited gleam in her eye.

"Is there not something in the knightly code on proper hygeine?" he asked waving his hand in front of his nose. "I say, it smells as if Nisa dumped you in the warf last night instead of in a bed." Kale set his pack down and began rummageing through until he found what he was looking for. "Ah ha!" he exclaimed, "Here we go. Erwind becononed Zoe to take a seat and poured her a drink. he removed his chainmail and other armour then his tunic till he stood there in only his pants, part of his body was covered from elbows up across his back and chest. the black tattos were a mixture of knot work like snakes interwoven to form a desipled pattern. he didnt care if she stared it was strange not many people new he bore the trible marks it was somewhat a secret.

Erwind looked into the night out the small window "we must get some sleep as we must leave in the morning" he smiled for he knew thats what she had wanted to leave this and go on an "adventure". He would have jumped of a cliff it ment staying close to his mistress. The horse reached over and started to nibble on Nisa's high ponytail. She slapped the stallion gently and scolded him "Quit that Buck."
They weaved their way through fishermen unloading their mornings catch and dock workers loading and unloading merchant ships. Finally the found the sea wolf. Nisa left Buck on the dock knowing he wouldn't wonder and climbed aboard the ship.
The frist person she saw was Philandus. He was leaning against the rail looking rather green. Nisa walked over to him, trying to be as quit as she could. He had always got the worst hangovers. She gently rubbed his back, put her head on his shoulder. "How do you feel this mornin'?"

After stowing his gear, Kale began his labors right away. There were crates and barrels of supplies to be loaded and Kale was more than happy to do so. Hoisting a barrel of drinking water on to his shoulder and another under his arm, he worked at a pace hardly any other man on board could match. All throughout the early morning, Kale worked aboard the Sea Wolf, doing this and hefting that. After a few hours, Kale to take a break and eat a bite of breakfast. Kale emerged from the lower deck three apples in hand. Taking a bite of one, he noticed Philandus and Nisa leaning on the railing and walked over. Zoe smiled a greeting to Philandus and stepped to the side of the gangplank to get out of the way as the supplies were loaded. She felt a little useless as she was unfamiliar with a working ship, the only time she had been on a ship was as a passenger in a stateroom, she knew nothing of the day to day work required to maintain a ship like this. Knowing she would be more of a help if she stayed out of the way for now, Zoe settled in to watch the goings on. She allowed her thoughts to go over the happenings of the previous night and she felt a little guilty for weaseling her way into this when she had absolutly no experience at this sort of thing. " I can learn!" she said to herself and a determination to succeed had her thinking of asking for someone to teach her the basics of sailing, swordplay, anything that she will have a need for, she wanted to learn and she would ask Erwind to teach her. Thinking of Erwind had Zoe flushing a little, she hadn't meant to stay in his room with him however she had lost track of time while talking and ended up sleeping in his bed. She had never done that before and she did not want him to think it was a common practice for her, even if she was a barmaid. Still it was a nice feeling to wake up in someone's arms.

The Sea Wolf deserved a good crew she was fast under her sail and held well in storms and ruff seas. the ship was allmost 25 meters long and in the center 6 meters wide her hight bow and stern had the head and tail of a dragon designed into it, the under hull had a lard storage area and sleeping quater. the horses and crates of supplies were stored here. the rear cabin was still under deck and held the stove and a make shift kitchen. the hole of the deck of the ship was one level and the hatch that went down to the hull was open while a few bigger things were tied to the deck like the cart and a basalisk. to ster the Sea Wolf there was a large oaracting like a rudder at the rear which was palled or pushed to turn left or right. Growing up in the lap of luxury only provided skills like horsemanship and needle point, things she was sure would not be nessessary here. Totally out of her element she wondered if she hadn't made a mistake in joining Erwind's quest. Zoe walked over to the small bed and sat down, she would wait untill everything had settled down before making her way to the galley.

After getting all the horses settled, Nisa crawled out of the haul and looked around. The crew was finishing the preperations and where ready to set sail. She knew that if she tryed to help the crew, she would only make for more work for them. Like the cullnary art, she had never cought on to sailing, no matter how hard she tryed. Nisa was a cavalier. She could do things with a horse no one thought posible. She knew her job was down in the stabbles down in the hull.
Nisa picked up her packs off of the deck and headed of the cabins. A crew member offered to carry her load for her, but she declined saying she could manage. The stairwell was narrow and after alot of pushing and swearing, Nisa got her packs down.
She tryed the first and second cabins but found them to be locked. This didin't surprise Nisa since these would be the largest cabins. She tryed a few more only to find them full of belongings. She opened the fifth door and found Erwind and Zoe in quiet conversation. Nisa smiled "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interupt." She closed the door, and went to the last cabin. She knew that this would be Philandus' cabin. He always took the last cabin. She knocked and after there was no answer she pushed the door open. His belongings were there but he wasn't. No matter. Nisa was sure he wouldn't mind if she took the top bunk. She piled her gear at the foot her bed and headed back above deck to wait for the launch.

"Thank you, being here before the crack of dawn tend to give you options of anyroom. Here let me get you the herbs to settle your stomach." She walks over to a dresser and pull out a pouch "Here." She throws it to him, and then she opens another drawer and takes out about five bottles and sets it down on the bed "Lets see what do you want to smell like, we have rose, or lilac, or lavender, honeysuckle smells nice, or a vanella smell. What would you like?" As she says this she opens up each bottle putting it under his nose.

At the end of the pier a merry sea tune could be heard being whistled by all the workers. The tune of "The Lost Sailor" was the favored song of Swhel Windfahr who was known as pirate in the isles.
Stopping one the workers Swhel halted his whistling and nodded towards the great ship. Be that the mighty Sea Wolf there on yer dock," he spoke grinning.
The young worker could not help to look at the tanned half-elf with fright. For he was a nefarious rogue around these parts who was known to kill at random. Well dressed in silk he hardly seemed the person he was rumored to be. His blond hair was cut short revealing his pointy ears and clean-shaven human jaw line. If there was anything menacing about him it was his peircing blue eyes which seemed as similiar as the sea against his dark skin.
"Uhh yes sir! They are loading for a voyage as we speak." the worker spoke quickly.
"I thank you lad," he guffawed chiming back into his song.
As he approached the ship he noticed the insignia of Arshella, "At last I had found my girl."
Scowering around the hull he checked the polishing more out of habit than anything else. Not wanting to insult his protege he began to yell out at one of the shipmates.
"Ahoy, permission to come aboard, I wish to speak with your Captain."

Slipping her hand out from under his Zoe toyed with a frayed stich on her tunic " It's just that I fear I will be of no use to you on this quest." She peeked up at him through long spiked lashes and for a brief moment allowed her gaze to travel the length of him which only caused her face to light up in embarrassment once more when she saw that he was aware of her appraisal. What was wrong with her, she had never had a man have such an effect on her before. Quickly rising from the bed Zoe stood in the middle of the room with her back to Erwind and breathed deeply to allow her mind to focus on the issue at hand. Stiffening her spine she turned to face him once more and smiled brilliantly " I may not be a swordswoman however I can learn and whilst I am doing so, it has been suggested that I prepare meals for the crew which I will gladly do. You shall not regret allowing me to accompany you on this journey." The old Zoe was gone, she thought, and from this moment on she vowed to become the woman she had always wanted to be.

Kale was carrying a couple large sacks of potatoes down to the galley, when he heard the call go out. Kale scratched at his beard not recognizing the voice. He put down his sacks and wiped his hands on a rag he had stuffed in his belt and went to see who it was. The big man stepped onto the deck and made his way towards the sound of the shouting. Kale approached the railing and folded his arms. He stared at the half-elf for a few moments trying to read him. He wore the garb of a sailor, but so did most in these parts. Not being from around here, Kale was cautious of all those he met. "I say," he shouted to the sailor, "who is it that request such an audience when there is work to be done?"

He smelt her hair, and moved his fingers gently playing with her hair, he looked up into her eyes and smiled welcomingly.

Nisa watched as Arshella left her cabin just ahead of her. She spoke to someone in her room and pulled her shirt back on as she headed top side. Nisa headed to the stairs and glanced into the cabin as she passed. Half way up the stair well she froze realizing what must have just happened.
Nisa felt like a fool. She wasn't sure why it bothered her, but the thought of Philandus with Arshella brought a lump to her throught and tears started to well up in her eyes.
She whiped them away hoping no one saw her like this. I'm acting like one of the spoiled brats that grace the court of the Empirer; throughing little tantrums every time a man didn't pay them the attantion they thought they deserved. Nisa, you should be slapped up side the head for acting like this. She thought.
The best thing for her to do was put distance between herself and Philandus. No man was worth getting all worked up over and after all: he was her best friend, she didn't want to loose that because of some stupid feelings.
She would take her things for his cabin and head for the stabbles in the hull through the galley. He wouldn't have to even know her stuff had been there. She headed back to his cabin.

Swhel knew he would not be too welcome, but he knew something they did not. Their travel would be perilous, for the seas were no longer safe. Pirates, like himself, preyed upon would be travellers. By the looks of the crew many were warriors on land, but in Zeboim's realm the story is different. He knew Arshella to be rash, but this was crew was green and she would need help. He prided himself in what he had taught her and wished her a great career, he was here to insure that happened. Besides, the sea was his home and his lavish retirement had bored him to tears. Walking away from Arshella he made way towards the lodging quarters when he heard the woman's voice.
Breaking his stride Swhel stared at her with a crooked smile. Dropping his seabag he took her hand bowing and lighty kissed it, "I am Swhel Windfahr my lady, and who are you?" he guffawed.
Nisa raised an eyebrow to this. She had expected to have her hand shaken, no kissed. Her knees felt slightly week but if it was from a little sea sickness, the cut throught pirate that stood infront of her, or the fact that the same villian was kissing her hand, She couldn't tell. "Your reputation prosseds you sir. I am the cavalier of the crew."

Swhel could tell this woman was a warrior. The strong hands of a sword fighter although still delicate. This intrigued and demanded his attention. Smiling as he raised up he looked into her eyes with a new found respect and admiration.
"I thank you my lady, but do not beleive everything you have heard. Reputation at sea is more of a big gossip circle. You kill a mutinous hand and it turns into a glorious battle with another ship killing all in the wake." Changing the subject Shwel smirked, " By the way, should I call you "Lady Cavalier" or just "Cavalier."

Nisa couldn't help but stare into Swhel's eyes. They were so deep and seemed to lock her gaze. The smell musk and spices seemed only to make her heart beat even faster. She hadn't met a man like him before. Nisa had always been just one of the guys, and any one who thought of her in any other way had treated her like Philandus had: just an invitation to share a bed roll and nothing more. No one had ever kissed her hand. She almost felt like... a lady.
Suddenly Nisa felt very selfconsious about her appearance. The wind cought her pony tail and blow it into her face. She was going to brush it away with her right hand, when she realized that Swhel still was holding it. She blushed and used her left to pull her hair out of her face and smiled. "My name is Nisa Sonnet. Will you excuse me. I have horses to attend to."
Since the hatch had been sealed, Nisa headed below deck through the galley. As she made her way she came to the conclution that in the hull was the safest place for her. Kale was probable right about being careful around Swhel, but for different reasons.

Bowing his head in agreement Swhel picked up his seabag never taking his eyes from the woman as she left. "Nisa," he whispered smiling.
Realizing the ship was setting sail he quickly headed for an empty cabin to change into more appropriate clothing. For the moment he would leave Arshella be to her duties and speak to this captain.
Inside his quarters he went to the bed and pulled out his equipment and clothing. At the bottom he pulled the scroll he had been given many months ago. He had read it numerous times and still could not figure out who had sent it. Unrolling it once again he stared at the final lines.
For your actions against our ship we wish to inflict pain upon all you hold most dear. We have come to the conclusion your death would not satisfy our hunger. Arshella will pay for your treachery for we know she is the closest thing to family you have. Do not seek to help her for the death sentence has already been agreed upon through our guild.
Throwing the parchment down he changed into his attire and headed for the main deck.
Dress in light blue leggings and tunic he would fit in as a lower member of the crew. Kneeling down he secured the daggers into his boots and tied the leather strap of the rapier on his waist. Looking around he decided to find this Erwind.

Erwind was on his way to find Zoe when he saw the scroll. he picked up the letter of the floor and read it. mixed fellings went through his head had he let a dangerous man aboard or had he saved a man, but the letter had said wrongs against the write. erwind desided to seek out the sea farer himself maybe Arshella didnt even know about this.
Erwind took the letter and run up deck to find out his answers. "Swhel what is this!" erwind closed the distance betwen then fairly quike till they were both up against the railing on the side of the ship. "What did you do?"

Zoe was in the galley familiarizing herself with everything when she heard someone enter the connecting dining area. Peeking out she saw Kale sitting at a table with a forlorn look on his face, she was about to go in to see if there was anything she could do for him when Philandus popped his head into the galleyway "Zoe do you need any help?" he asked. Zoe looked at him then quickly ducked her head to hide the grin on her face " Not right now" she said then laughed " But you may want to finish dressing before you do anything else." he was standing with his shirt tails hanging out and fastened up the wrong way as if he had done it in haste. Zoe chuckled to herself and turned away, she went over to the small cook oven to remove a pot of steaming water she had put on when she entered and made two cups of coffee. Carrying a mug in each hand Zoe walked out into the dining area and placed a mug in front of Kale " It may not be very good, I have never mastered the art of making coffee, but you look like you could use a cup." Takeing a seat across from Kale, Zoe sat silently sipping her coffee, if Kale wanted to talk she would listen if not then she could at least keep him company.

"What I did was no consequence to you. I am here for Arshella's well-being and that is there is to it. Three years have I been away from the sea laddie. I have aquired many enemies throuhgout those prior travels. I am here to find out who wants her dead. Now if you don't mind I want you to not mention this to anyone," he whispered.

Kale looked up a bit startled to see Khara. "Um, thankyou." he said taking the cup. Kale ran his hand through his thick hair and scratched the back of his head as he stared at the broken table lying next to him. "Must have been rotten wood," he said kicking a few pieces with his foot. "Dont build'em like they used to," he said with a fake smile as he looked up at Zoe. Taking a sip of the coffee, Kale nodded his head in away that suggested it was good. "Not bad," he said wiping his mouth. "So, this your first time on a ship?" he asked not knowing what else to say.

Zoe smiled over the rim of her coffee mug " No it's not however my last voyage was very different from this one." she said quietly and continued to drink her coffee. As an uncomfortable silence rose between them Zoe shifted a little in her seat then sighed " You know..." she started " I have been known to listen once in a while if something's on your mind." Zoe grinned at Kale " It comes from being behind the counter of a bar." she was about to say more when the ship was suddenly tossed to one side as the sea water grew choppy and she almost lost her balance " Goodness, I hope the whole voyage isn't going to be like that!" she exclaimed.

Seeing the wave coming from the portside of the vessel Swhel leaped to the ground yelling at Erwind to do the same. As the water subsided he looked around for the great man. Struggling to get up he crawled to the starboard railing.
"Man overboard on the starboard side," he yelled.
Looking around for rope there was none to be found. Turning his attention to the water Erwind was gone. Zeboim has once again taken where she has never given. Slumping to the ground Swhel knew he would be to blame for this man. Throuhgout all his travels he had never truly murdered anyone who did not deserve it. His decisions this day would be just another tale of his misdeeds. Looking up from the deck he stared through blurry sea-stung eyes that someone was coming.

Arshella could not believe what she had just watched, her body wanted to move when she had seen the fight. But her legs were glued there until after Erwind had went over board and then she only fell to the ground, once she could move she ran over and all she could do was stare at Swhel in disbelief. This isn't him, this isn't the one that took care of her and taught her all she knew. "How could you?" Were the only words that would come out.
Some of the Deck hands were rushing around now seeing if they can see Erwind at all, they were making enough noise that it could be heard down below.

Nisa was down in the stabble when the ship learched to one side. She had just finished feeding the horses and was just getting ready to start to groom them when the sudden movement cought her off gaurd. She was sent flying into a stack of hay bails.
The sudden change spooked the animals as well. Swift started to rear up and threatened to brake the stall door. The pony danced this way and that, stumbling about until she fell. Buck whinnied and backed himself into the corner of his stall and began kicking the hull.
Scrambling to her feet, Nisa ran to her stud first since it seemed he would do the most damage. She entered the stall and whispered to him. Buck stopped kicking but his nostrils still flared and he was starting to sweat. Quietly Nisa took his lead rope and grabbed his halter. He pitched his head back and fought her but soon settled down and his breathing slowed. She tied him back to the hitch ring and the front of the stall.
By the time she had her horse colmed, Erwinds warhorse, Swift was in a lather. Nisa grabbed a blanket and her grooming brush. She knew that he enjoyed being groomed. Nisa entered the stall as slowly as she could, making sure she had latched the gate behind her. If he got out, someone would get hurt. Approching as colmly as she could, Nisa brushed his shoulder. This settled him down and soon his body relaxed till every brush stroke fell intime with his breathing. Nisa rubbed the blanket on his neck then his withers then slowly drapped it over his back. She fassined the blanket.
By the time Nisa got to the pony, the resilient animal was happily munching on some chop that had spilled.
Taking a seat on a bail, Nisa put her head in her hands and prayed that the seas would be colmer and that no one was hurt anywhere else on the ship.

"You have to believe me, I may be a useless pirate, but one thing is I'm not a liar. The sea took him away, plain and simple. Everyone has to know this, we are being thrown back and forth by it. Locked in his room began pacing back and forth fuming with contempt. This crew was against him at the start. Of course there were a few who treated him with respect. The one person he truly trusted did not have that same faith in him. He could escape the room with little effort, but he knew it would be his death. Right now the crew was gathering to the galley in confusion. Once the news is brought to their attention that there friend is gone it would turn to rage and a call for justice. Kneeling down he began to shake as he saw the picture she had given him. A ship with his picture standing next to Arshella drawn over fifteen years ago. She was a daughter to him in his eyes and to this day was.
Gathering his thoughts he began to stare out the port hole wondering if she was going to be safe.
"Yes, I know you do not need me anymore, but to lose you would be my end, he chuckled. Tucking the drawing in his pocket he began to weave knots with his lanyard. The very rope he strangled Ronim with the day he attempted to take Arshella's life. She knew nothing of it for Swhel covered it up as one of his random acts of murder. Whistling again he awaited the jury who would whole-heartily sentence him to death this night.

She tryed to squeeze her eyes tightly to make herself cry, but the tears would not come. She couldn't feel anything. Not saddness, or loneliness, not even anger. She felt hollow, numb inside.
Erwinds sister had called it a defense mechanism; that it was easier for Nisa to feel nothing than deal with all the pain and loss that had occured in her life.
Nisa stood up and walked over to Arshella. "I want to talk to Swhel, now." She had to find out why Erwind had died. She had to make some sense of it.

Arshella puts on a mask of indifference even though she is tearing apart inside "What are you expecting him to tell you, that is was an accident. It doesn't matter with him, he is a murderer plain a simple. You do not know him, the kind of person he is. This is not the first time he has done this, but this will be the last time. I should have done something before, now I will. I am sorry, but you cannot see him. In time you will have to learn to mourn." She starts walking back to the galley she quietly says something letting Nisa bairly hear it "Just remember, you are not the only one on here losing someone. How about comforting them before you go on your war path again."

"I'm sure that everyone would feel so much comforte with empathetic Nisa around." Nisa spat sarcasticly. "I have a feeling that Philandus would find much more comfort in your bosom than he would find with me." She turned on her heal and marched up the stairs and out onto the deck.
The sun was just starting to set and the sky was a rainbow of golds and oranges. The beauty of the display was lost on Nisa. She wanted to feel something, anything. Even anger toward Arshella would be something but she couldn't even feel that. She knew that she was probibly right about Swhel. Still, she would have to hear it from his lips.
Nisa stood at the rail and gazed into the crashing waves. All the memories of her times with Erwind ran through her mind. How he had been there for her when her mother "disappeared". He was the only one she had ever told that she knew what had happend to her mother; how Nisa's father had killed her because she had asked him not to go to the pub that night. He was the only one that she had confided in about knowing how all of her stepmothers had "dissappeared". And when his last wife defended herself and killed Nisa's father, Erwind was the one who helped her burn the house down after the emperors soldiers had dragged her stepmother away. He helped her deal with it all. And now he was gone.
The wind picked up slightly and Nisa shivered. She smiled. At least she could still feel the cold.

Arshella sighs "So that is what all this is about. Arshella you are going to regret this later, but this is the only think I can think to do."
Arshella walks up on deck and goes over to Nisa "Not that you care, but nothing happened between me Philandus. I know he cares for you, but his hormones get in the way sometimes. Give him a chance." Sigh "To makeup for this misunderstanding, I will allow you to speak with Swhel for five minutes. But that is it, Ok?"

Continuing his whistling Swhel looked up towards Arshella while he tied and untied numerous knots. He then shifted over to see who this "visitor" was. Leaning back he began to stand up and walked towards Arshella. Leaning forward he began talk in a secret language. Only known to sea-folk this language was a mixture of languages lost long ago.
For the people of these waters were of every race spanning from the beggining of time.
Trust is something we held most dear my dearest child. I thought I would never see the day where your pride would cloud and destroy your feelings towards me. Yet it has, you say you watched us fight. If that were so then you would have seen the sea take him from this ship. I was just defending myself and you know this for fact. Right now I wish you to leave me alone and think about what you have done. I do not judge you for decision, but you are now in command of these peoples lives. When the moment arises you must make the right choice and right now you waste your time here. You should be on the deck insuring your crew a safe passage. Respect my wishes and go to yer crew, leave, he softly spoke.
Walking towards his bed Swhel sat down and awaited for his interogation. Picking up his lanyard he began to weave his knots once again.

How am I sapost to feel about you killing people. Killing Ronim, I am making of for back then. For the times I should have known better, the time I was to blinded to understand. What you must think to yourself is why did she leave you alone with me. If I can kill a man as Erwind so easily why can't I do the same to you. Don't you agree," he nodded.
"Truth is lassie, Arshella brings danger to you all. That is why Erwind and I went to blows.
He had found in my quarters a scroll. It is a death warrant for Arshella that cannot be broken. Erwind faced me with the document and I told him it was not his concern until the right moment. We fought on the deck....well in the end it was the sea that took him. A wave swept him over to be lost forever," he remorsed.
Walking to the desk he grabbed the wooden chair and pushed it towards Nisa. Leaning against the bulkhead he motioned her to sit.

Could he be telling the truth? She knew that a masive wave must have hit the ship about that time. No small swell would have caused such havoc in the stabbles.
"What does Arshella have to loose by letting me see you?" Nisa smiles and takes a seat on the chair, never braking eye contact with Swhel.
"The way I see it, if you hurt me, the others will take care of you before we ever get to a friendy harbor where she can hand you over to the constabulary. If you convince me to helping you, than she can lock me up as well which I don't doudt would please her. And if nothing happens then she hasn't lost anything. Whatever happens is to her benifit."
Nisa causually looked around the room noting all the posible weapons as she leaned back in the chair and place her hands behind her head. She prayed that he bought all of that. The two women didn't now each other before this morning, and had very little to do with each other thus far. Nisa couldn't say that she like Arshella, but to say that she didn't like her would have been a lie. And the marier never showed any hostility towards her... until she locked her in Swhels cabin... alone, which she said she wouldn't do for Nisa's own pretection. Nisa put that thought to the back of her mind. She was sure that Arshella would be back in five minutes and she didn't want to waste that time on such thoughts.

Kale listened half-heartedly to the words spoken around him. After all was said, he nodded as if to say "whatever you think is best" and left the galley, headed for the top deck. Once outside, he breathed deep the salty air. Walking to the bow of the ship, Kale stared blankly out over the water, thinking of what he was to do once they returned. Kale was brought out of his thoughts by a twinkling reflection of light in the distance. Snapping back to reality, Kale peered hard to make out what he'd seen. It was no good, whatever it was was still to far away to be seen by the naked eye. Kale walked hurriedly to the stern and took a spyglass from the helmsman. There on top of her tools of the trade layed her fathers sword. She lovingly ran her finger along the decorated hilt then realizing what she was doing, Nisa stopped and through it out of her way. She retrieved her own sword. It was made for her by a weaponsmith in Shadowbay. The sword was the perfect length for her and balanced perfectly.
She reached back into her bag and retrieved her dagger, placing it in her boot she turned to go above deck. Nisa was just about to head out the cabin door when something cought her eye. Leaning against the wall was Erwinds sheild. She paused, took a deep breath, then made her way above deck.

It was gaining on them. So this was the fight Swhel was talking about.
She looked at Zoe. She seemed so delicate out here, though Nisa had seen her hold her own back at the Golden Gate. Erwind had felt something for her. He most have. Erwind wan't the type to drag barmaids along for mercenary work. He wouldn't want her to get hurt.
Nisa placed her hand on Zoe's shoulder and smiled. She pulled her dagger out from the back of her belt. "Here. Take this. I think you may need it soon. You'd be safer if you stayed below deck. Hide yourself down in the hull."

Zoe had always admired Nisa, she only knew the other woman from what she had seen in the tavern however she knew that in a situation like this Nisa would not hesitate to fight for her own and Zoe could do no less. Accepting the offered dagger Zoe gripped it tightly then reached over and clasped Nisa's shoulder in return " Thank you Nisa I appreciate you trying to keep me safe, I am no warrior that is true, however I shall stand and fight. I do not want to hide away and pretend this all never happened. I came on this journey to start over and I don't want to start as a coward. "

But we'd better hurry, I don't think we have much time and you'll need a little instruction so you don't kill anyone on our side or yourself." She turned and headed for the door to the stairwell. "Arshella, let me help you before that wheel slings you overboard." As he said that the blood in his face seemed to freeze. The ship on their portside was sent into Zeboim's bosom never to be seen again. "It can't be, she sank into the ocean long ago," he whispered.

The light shining in Zoe's eyes dimmed for a brief moment at the mention of Erwinds name however Zoe quickly pushed aside the feelings of grief for the was no time for indulging at the moment. The other ship was gaining on them, there was an awful feeling tingling in the air. Zoe hurried to follow Nisa where ever it was she was taking her to instruct her on the dagger's use. Zoe had always figured you shoved the pointy end at the person you were trying to protect yourself from, she guessed there was more to it than that. Zoe had never used a weapon before she had always resorted to useing her fists when it came to protecting herself and by golly she was good at it however it couldn't hurt to have some basic knowlege of weapons and she had always wanted to learn swordplay.

She pulled out a chain mail shirt. "Here, put this on." Nisa tossed it to Zoe. To her suprise, the chain mail was very light. "We're close to the same size so it should fit." As Zoe pulled on the shirt, Nisa reached into her bag and pulled out the only other weapon Nisa had ever liked to use. She handed it to Zoe. "It's called a morningstar. put your hand through the leather loop on the end of the handle. Yes like that. It's very easy to use. You just bash your foe with it. It's balanced so that you don't have to swing it very hard to do alot of damage. Try it. Swing your arm in a figureight. That's it. Try to keep your arm a little staighter. Good. I think you've got it. If you'd like I'll teach you the finer points when we have time. Why don't you go practice on the deck. I'll be right up. I just need to go find Philandus."
After looking for her friend in his cabin and not finding him, Nisa headed for the hull. She found him laying across an ale barrel, deep in thought. "Find your sword, my friend. Zoe made her way around the deck, swinging the morningstar to get the feel of it and feeling pride at wearing the borrowed chain mail. It was a little tight across the chest, as Zoe was quite well endowed but other than that it fit quite well. Zoe walked towards the rear of the ship to stay out of the way as she practiced with the weapon, a tight nervousness in the pit of her stomach was the only indication of the nervousness the thought of useing the morningstar on another person. She was a gentle person by nature however she was like a she bear when it came to protecting the ones she loved so she knew she was willing to do whatever it took to defend her friends and herself. Placing the morningstar on top of a barrel of fresh water, Zoe pulled her curly hair back into a knot at the back of her neck to keep it from getting in the way when the fighting started. There was no way around it that she saw, the other ship was almost on top of them now, it would be a matter of minutes before one ship boarded the other. Looking back Zoe spotted another smaller boat heading towards them as well, not quite as close as the ship but still gaining. " How many of them are there?" she asked herself, then leaned over the railing for a better look, there were only two people in the small boat and one of them looked familiar. If she didn't know better she would swear it was Erwind sitting at the helm!

These were not men at all, they were undead, the original crew of the Sickle. Their captain was a cleric of Zeboim, Quirana Ridfir, the mother of the man he had killed long ago. As he regained his composure he heard the command to fire and screamed "arrows" to any that could hear.
The sky seemed to be shadowed by the wave of quivers raining down upon Erwinds ship. The screams of unknowing deckhands filled the deck with blood.

Erwind did the one thing he had trained to do that was hit he hit with all his might spliting the skull to the jaw the creature fell to its knees Erwind did not stop till the monster was a pulp. the horror was worse still for it didnt en with the undead the deck was red with blood intestines covered the wooden floor severed limbs and heads the gore of battle was no stranger to Erwind but the undead didnt just rip apart the sailers and deck hands they ate them the man who had brought Erwinds gear to him had three monters ripping at his fleash with teeth and nail the man was still screaming as they bite of chunks of fleash. all Erwind could do was watch...

Her rage and everything flowing threw her helping he to fight, she would not allow Swhel to die yet not until she could do it herself.

Nisa smiled back. Pushing her way through the crowd of undead, she retreived a torch from it's holder. As she spun around, Nisa held her new weapon out towards her foes. She was suprised how well it worked. Three of the deceased pirates were instently engulfed in flames. The pitates hurried to stay clear of the walking torches as they rushed to the rail and dove overboard. Nisa smiled as she swung her torch and the undead took a few steps back to give her room.
The sound of thunder rocked the ship. The storm was very close now. Nisa's upper hand would not work so well in the rain. She would have to get to her comrades soon or she would be stuck on the deck alone. As she turned to face the bridge, Nisa saw her friends fighting side by side and Swhel on his knees.
With new found enthusiasm, Nisa rushed towards the bridge, lighting any of her foe that got to close. Half way she stopped and helped a fallen crewman to his feet then with the wounded man covering her back, the two of them made their way up the stairs.
After handing the torch to the crewman, Nisa kneeled down infront of Swhel. "Need a little help?" She winked at the half elf, placed one hand on his shoulder and yanked the arrow out with the other. the balista the idea came to Erwind like a blow to the head the balosta was straped onto the deck at the front of the ship that would have enought power to snap the gost ships mask "Phillandus to the Balista!" Erwind leaped over the corpse of a salior slid on the blood stream that was the deck and made his way to the Balista if they took out the mask and snaped the ropes holding the gost ship to him they could flee the pirites in no time as long as there was enought of them alive to do so.

She winked at the half elf, placed one hand on his shoulder and yanked the arrow out with the other. As Nisa helped him to his feet, she felt the first few rain drops on her face. "I don't think the torch will work much longer."
Wincing at the pain shooting through his arm he smiled patting her shoulder, "You do have a healing touch," laughing as the storm came in. "Next time don't warn me if you have to do that again," he winked.
Staring at the sky he agreed with her, "It seems Zeboim turned her cheek to us. What else could go wrong." Takng off his sash he tied it around his shoulder to releive the bleeding at least until he could stitch it. Luckily it did not hit the bone or severe any arteries.
Looking behind Nisa he saw Arshella hand her sword to Zoe. Cocking his head to a side and nodded Nisa to look. "Now what do yo suppose she is doing?"
The loud bellow from Erwind distracted him for the moment, the man certainly thought like Swhel. Hit there weakest point, their mast would stop them dead in the water.
"Turning back to Nisa he begged her to stop Arshella, or at least stall her until he could help Philandus and Erwind.

Zoe looked into Arshella's eyes as she handed over her sword, reading the other woman's decision Zoe quickly pushed the sword back to Arshella " No! You can not go over there! They started this battle and we will need you to help us finish it...I did not figure you for a coward Arshella, to take the easy way out!" Zoe knew her words would anger the sea faring woman for Arshella was certainly not a coward and would most likely strip the hide off anyone who suggested so. However it was the only way she could think of to get the fighting spirit back into Arshella eyes.

Philandus fought onwards, as his longsword swang and swiped in the air; he was clumsy and slow, but the undead were slower. He found himself liking the longsword the more he used it, as he knew the flail would have little effect on the undead. But the longsword would slice limbs off.
Philandus fought on and on piercing hearts, chopping heads and cutting limbs; He heard Erwind's shout above the noise and fought his way to the ballista.
He pushed the ballista around slowly to point at the mast, it was heavy even with it's frequent use; Philandus stopped pushing and took a breather, as a sword from an undead sailor came towards the back of his head.

Erwind was on the spot behind Philandus the balista was hard to move it weighted 4 times them combined. Erwind new it was lined up but the dead were apone them one swung for Philandus Erwind tackled the salior. and the two slip into the railing more zombies had flocked to were Erwind and Philandus would be makeing their last stand.
Erwind slit a stomack roten green intestines spilled onto the floor it did not hamper the creatures attack. "WE ARE BOGGED DOWN WE CANT FIRE" Erwind yelled at any one he couldnt see from the green-black blood coating his face. if they were to fire the balista they would need some more help.

Nisa heard what Zoe said and smiled. It took nerve to call a woman like Arshella a coward. Just as she was just about to reach the other women, one of the undead cought Nisa's arm. The dead pirate tore the sleave of her tunic, drawing blood with his long fingure nails. Nisa spun around and severed the hand that held her, then pushed him over the rail.
"Arshella, take up your sword and fight. What would giving yourself over to them do besides get yourself killed? You know their not going to sail off into the sunset blowing kisses to the rest of us as they go. Weather your dead or not, we're going to have to fight for our lives so you might as well...." Nisa was cut off as a small group of the undead stormed the bridge. As she fought the pirates, Nisa shouted over her shoulder, "For Pete's sake Arshella! Pull yourself together and fight!"

Arshella rolls her eyes, upon hearing the two of them. She then shoves the sword back at Zoe very annoyed "Oh please give me a break, if I was going to run away it wouldn't be to the other ship. I am the one that they want, one life it better then many. If I can stop this by going over there I will. If not I will find another weapon and take that witches head off. Arcing his arm up Swhel met the undead sailor's sword kicking it. The force sent it back a few paces. Bringing his sword up he ran towards the undead pirate peircing it in the chest forcing it back upon the railing. The old dog then head-bunted it and ran towards Erwind and Philandus leaving the zombie pinned into the wood.
Winking at Erwind he winked, "Sorry about the wood, a little polish will take it out. Now let us get that devil ship back into the sea where it belongs."

with the three at the balista now they could fire without being mobed. Erwind pulled the trigger and with a thud the rope slaped and the six foot bolt flew across at the pirite ship straight passed Arshella but the sea was ruff and the ship serged and the bolt after impalling a corpse smashed into the far side of the damned ship. Erwind started to turn the weel that re cocked the balista he would send that ship back to the abyss.

She then rights herself, back on the railing of the ship and glairs at Nisa "You stupid girl, even if we take out the ship Zeboim will take us out tonight. She has her mind set on us, and will not hesitate to kill us all. If I end up a sacrafice to her, that will atleast calm her a little bit so you guys can get out of here. As for being Swhel's wench, if you are not now you will be. That is if you do not run away from him like you did Phil. They all end up that way eventually though, besides you are already believing everything he has to say. You think me an irrational girl, but I am the only one that has truly thought things through. Swhel is the one who has caused this to happen, I am the one to stop it. Besides if I do not die now I will never have any peace from him."
She then all of a sudden moves quickally grabbing a knife from her boot, and throwing it right past Nisa's head into the undead that was coming up right behind her making it fall over "So unless you truly are ready to die, stop trying to stop me."

With all the straining his arm began to weaken from the injury. For some reason his strength was being sapped from his body, leaving him only the sound of whispers.

"Se-a-tai-la," the cleric continued to chant. The black cloaked woman began to walk towards Swhel. Laughing at him cynically she began to speak, "Do you think I would die that easily. Clutching at her stomach her wound began to slowly heal eventually closing leaving no sign of injury." Waving her hand around at the chaos the crew was oblivious to her vision.
"Only your eyes will be privy to the pain I am going to cause to dear Arshella."

Swhel could not say a word as he watched his only considered family member approached the cleric. Quirana threw off her cloak revealing her true self. Her body was the color of sea foam toned from many years of sailing. Her red hair and hawk-nose were traits her son inherited, the child Swhel had killed.
Pulling a silver dagger from her waist it revealed the symbol of the sea goddess Zeboim. Laughing madness eminated from her as she walked towards Arshella. "Know this Swhel Windfar, Arshella is now a child of Zeboim, she will no longer have the heart to see your face again."
Turning her head back to Arshella she bellowed spidery word revealing herself to the young woman long enough to see the fear upon her face. Swinging the dagger into Arshella's chest with all her force her aim was true. "She is yours now my lady."
Once she spoke the words Quirana began to writh in pain dropping to the ground holding Arshella as they both fell to the deck. Whispering into Arshella's ear she soon began to wither away into grains of sand quickly blowing away into the sea. Swhel could see the color of his child turn from brown to sea green. The dagger once in her chest now appeared in her hands.
Crying Swhel mustered all of his energy to speak with no avail, all he could do is witness the undead kneeling down awaiting her orders. Throughout the ship the fighting discontinued on there behalf. Arshella was now the Mistress of the Sickle.

As the last of the undead sailors fell into the sea Zoe heaved a sigh of relief, she had never been so exsausted as she was right now. Her arms trembled as she struggled to hold up the sword Arshella had thrust upon her in case any more of the fowl sailors should appear. Realizing that they were alone on the forward deck Zoe gestured to Nisa " We should find the others." Zoe started back to where Erwind, Shwel and Philandus were standing, a forlorn look on their faces. Arshella woke sitting up, she looks at her hands they are a different color now and one holds the dagger that had stabbed her. She drops it in fear, her hands shaking she stands and steps away from it. She should be dead, what has happened to her. She then sees the undead lifeless around her, and then sees the ones Nisa had already killed. Something in her heart was upset about this, she glairs over to the group "Kill no more undead, they shall be useful to me."
