OOC: Okay, a bit of info/rules on this thread before we start:

1) The characters are to be someone likely to act as mercenaries for low hire (which excludes things like solamnics)

2) No kender, talking, flying animals or the like. Gnomes are not allowed either (sorry about this rule, but I want to see how far we can take a thread without these little plaquebringers in child size)

3) I will act as the story teller

Now, we are ready to begin:

BIC: "Ah, come in. He's been waiting," the butler said with polite indifference as the guests entered the halls. They where done mainly in stone and metal, not making it any less marvellous. Differently coloured metals swirled in and out of each others in a web that allowed for countless shapes to be designed. The home belonged to Tiran, a slightly eccentric dark elf that, in power of his supreme lifespan, had carved himself his piece of the human treasures, only to throw himself into magic and later create these caves. The butler led the guests through some halls, and into the vast network of hallways and corridors than span for hundreds of kilometers around the underground. The butler takes such a path that everyone is soon too confused to find their way out again. Finally, they enter a small room, lit by apparently nothing, but still with so much light that there was no shadows at all. In the middle, a man dressed in a fine, red robe, adorned with golden tread, fine silk cloves in red and a pair of hand-made shoes in a dull red was sitting. His hair has lost some of the rich cobber it once carried. Had he been human, grey streaks would have sprouted many places on his head. Unlike other elves at his age, he did not sport the extremly small beard that tended to grow. He sat in a chair carved by fine wood in front of a chessboard in the middle of a game. He sat where he would sit where he to guide the white pieces. Initially, it looks like the black pieces are winning. He looks up to reveal his dark eyes and golden, tanned skin and smiles. "Ahh, welcome, welcome." He says warmly.

OOC: You've all been sought out and offered a great sum of money to come to his house and attend a job. Mainly the butler picked people out. You know nothing more.

Name: Jordei
Age: 95

But some idiot snuck up on him, though that guy soon found himself with a knife in his throat…

Weapons: Axe, Crossbow, and small Dagger
Appearance: Pretty small for a dwarf. Pale. Not very musculer. Chain mail and leather gauntlets.
Background: One word discribes him: Greed. He fights only when it suits him and fights harder than any dwarf when there are riches at the other end. He has a bit of coward's blood, and will run when he has nothing to gain. Kinda Rougish-like. He sneaks a lot and is very good at it and is good at backstabbing others especially if there's money invovled.. Also he's not happy unless he's hungry, cold, or complaining.

IC: Dunnun looked warily of the two ogres and the minotaur. "Partners?" He thought. "I didn't know I had to work with partners.. That means we'll split up the money.. I wonder how much there is?" The dwarf's head was barely visible above the table when he sat down so Dunnun stood up and made an announcement, "Where's the reward?"

"Good evening, gentlemen, good evening. come closer, I want to show you something. Here," his hand sweeps across the chessboard, barely missing the pieces. "I've been playing this game with a renegade mage named Chilos for few years. As you can see, I am not doing too well. But, should you look closely, you will see the potential for a trap. A trap that would severly damage his hold here," he points to the left side of the chessboard, where a few pieces endangers most of Tirans pieces. "Unfortunately, the trap requires a few undisturbed moves in order to succeed. But I can achieve those as well, provided that," he motions for one of his bishops to move in a straight line into the middle of Chilos' pieces, putting the king in check," this piece can make it all the way and disturb him long enough for me to make my moves. You will all be handsomely rewarded for your success. Failure is not relevant, as Chilos will be the one to decide that. Are you interested in the job, gentlemen?" He still smiles, appearing as nothing but warmth and joy.

09-30-2004, 02:12 PM
"Because it is a wise move and I have enough money to spend," Tiran replies with a smile. "Well, if you're interested in the job, here's the details: I will send you most of the way through a magic item that I have in my possession. When you arrive, you will be able to see the tower of his. Find a way inside it, don't alert the guards. Once inside, burn his library, cause as much havoc as possible and return to the point you arrived at. Do not attack the mage himself. If he comes to harm, you will recieve no payment at all. And I will know. Remember, your role is to draw his attention away from here," he points at the pieces threatening him," not to put him in checkmate. Yet. If you succeed, I may have use of this bishop yet another day. The reward is eight hundred steel each. Interested?"

"There are three main levels in the tower. Between those, there are nothing but staircases and the occasional balcony. On level one is the entrance hall and the barracks for his bodyguard defending the tower. It is designed so that the sleeping halls are in the same side as the dinner hall, the training room and all hygenic facilities is in the other side, none connected on either side. This means that soldiers pass through the entrance halls at all time, not counting the ones on guard duty there. The main entrance is the only entrance known to me. The second floor is mainly the library, and then Chilos' personal quarters. That is where everything interesting is. The third level is Chilos' lab. Making your way up there will be even harder than getting in, but should you be able to, you can wreack a lot of havoc. How to get past the guards on floor one, I don't know. And yes, it is a lot of money, but it is hard as well. Remember, Chilos is not to be harmed or even engaged, understood?"

Dunnun suddenly out of the blue said, "I've got an idea. Chase, me and two others can scale the tower to the second floor. We create a distraction by killing a few guards silently and letting one escape. The other guards will not expect anything else so the rest of the group including the two ogres and the minotuar can storm the door. If they can't then We'll wait out of the window for Chase to unlock it. Is that enough distraction for you, mage? We should leave immediately."

Grimgor
09-30-2004, 05:04 PM
"No. As I said, the library must be put ablaze. Afterwards, you can cause all the confusion you want, but that is a necessivity. And the second and third floor are warded. At most, you would have to enter through one of the windows between the first and second floor, and then attempt to get away afterwards. But you must also all be inside and be an active part of the operation, or there will be no point in me paying you, would there?"

Calvillas uth Dalgrin
09-30-2004, 05:26 PM

Grimgor
09-30-2004, 05:29 PM

Calvillas uth Dalgrin
09-30-2004, 05:50 PM
"Damned wizards," Kale replied shaking his head, "No offense to present company of course. It is my suggestion, if none object, that we leave immediately. We will formulate a plan once we have seen this tower. That way we might have an idea about what will be the best way to proceed."

Kendergod
09-30-2004, 05:52 PM
"Or we could come in through the window in the first floor which probaly won't be warded and sneak up to the library. We set it ablaze meanwhile Chase will sneak downstairs and open the door from the inside for from the outside there has to be a trap or Ward of some sort. The ogres and the minotaur will then burst in. We'll fight our way down to them breaking a few things on the way then get out. How bout that?"

Master_of_the_lance

I think your planning would do better if you knew what you where facing," Tiran says with a smile as the room disappears in a haze. When it lifts, everyone is standing on a small plateau, raised some fifty feet above a small, grassy valley (OOC: Including Calus, I will decide when you are to be teleported ;) ). At the buttom of the valley, a rather strange tower rises form the ground. It is nearly half as broad as it is tall, seemingly made by an amateur of a stonecrafter. The stones are uneven, fitting badly into the others, giving the tower an aura of something about to collapse. In two circles, a myriad of windows marks the location of the two upper floors. Here and there, balconies and the like pop out between the floors, looking oddly out of place. The gate into the tower is huge, adorned with golden metals, making it seem like only thing sturdy enough to withhold an assault. There are no guards visible. All of a sudden, the gate springs open. Foaming in rage, something that seems like a large dog rushes out into the open. Whatever has happened to the dog is best left unknown, but large, barbed tentacles sprout from its shoulders, the claws are long enough to tear off an arm, and the teeth seems to be dripping with acid. The eyes are mad, desperate and sick. With a howl that chills the bone, the dog sets off for the surrounding mountains.

Calvillas uth Dalgrin
10-01-2004, 02:07 PM
Kale dropped to his knee to take in the sight of the tower, hoping to note any visual weakness or flaws. He watches as the gates burst open and the beast comes running into view. He watches as it runs a ways, then turns to the group and says, "That thing will be trouble."

BIC: The dog started growing increasingly annoyed by the stones, now sending the tentacles, that seemed cabable of stretching into infinity, out among the bushes near him. Almost by accident, one of them got hold of Chase's leg. Within a second, the other one grapped his arm and both ripped him brutally out in the open. BIC: The dog instantly turned its attention to the newcomers. Ignoring the new wounds, its now much smaller tentacles whirled at Igor, smacking him and tearing up armor, clothes and skin. The dog lept past Igor towards Dunnun, murder in its eyes. It would have hit Dunnun had its wounded hind leg not collapsed during the landing, giving the dwarf several precious seconds.

BIC: Dunnun scared out of his mind paniced. He threw his crossbow at the beast as he started to run away. He then discovered he was at the bottom of a cliff. He was cornered. He took out his axe in the split second he had left. He then charged, surprising the beast, like a cornered animal, adrenaline pumping through him.

As a tentacle moved to intercept him Dunnun moved with amazing speed because of his rogue like abilties and chopped off the tentacle. But Dunnun didn't stop there he charged on toward the beast without giving it a second to recuperate. The beast, angry, moved a tentacle around the axe, but not to rip it out of his arm as Dunnun expected. The beast rather surprised Dunnun by attacking it with its claws and its teeth. In its rage it left the ogre an attack of opportunity. Meanwhile claws ripped through one of Dunnun shoulders as he shreiked with pain. The beast was about to finish by ripping out his throat...

Gnarsh was dropped and landed next to the dog. He saw a chance to attack, he hit the dog in his wounded leg and the dog fell with a broken leg onto the floor. Gnarsh then hit the dog in the head, knocking the dog senseless. Gnarsh then collasped to the floor to get his breath back.

Dunnun breathed a sigh of releif through his painful groans. His shoulder was almost detached. Dunnun could barely bear the pain. He did not see how they were going to complete the mission alive. A sudden surge of anger flew through him as he saw the beast was only unconcious and not dead. Dunnun, despite the pain crawled over to the beast dragging his half-detached arm and took out his dagger and slit the beast throat then out of spite sawed off its head. He collapsed, his body punishing him for that move. He waited for help.

Chase finally caught his breath and sat upright. He romoved some cloth from his pack and wraped his wound. Then jumped up on his feet and walked out in to the open where the two lay he walked over to the dwarf realizeing he was realy hurt he got some more cloth and pressed it tight on his arm to help stop the bleeding and then tied it tight. He looked at the dwarf and asked ''Do you need your arm sowed"? He stared silently waiting for a reply.

OOC: And we're back in business! Hope I can get this rolling again.

BIC: A few spasms coursed through the dog, before the severing of its head undeniably killed it. The air seemed awfully quiet after the fight. Almost too quiet. An eerie silence had fallen over the entire scene, as if all aspects of natural sound had been drained from the area. An aura of awaiting nearly screamed for action. With no forewarning, a large boulder nearby cracked with a ear-splitting sound, as if the very earth cried in agony at the crime commited against its bones.

In the chess room, Tiran moved the bishop to knock down the rider. At the far end of the table, a pawn moved a single square forward, a move with no apparant use. Tirans eyes flashed at the place nervously, but regained their calm happiness an instant later.

Gnarsh stood up and roared in triumph. The beast was dead, and he had survived.
