100 yrs post WoS

Minotaurs are a split faction. The majority of the race reveres Sargas, while a smaller portion upholds the beliefs of Kiri-Jolth. Though inner turmoil is spread throughout the empire, the nation controls most of eastern Ansalon. As of now, most of their forces are directed at overthrowing Solamnia.

The Knights of Solamnia have pulled their forces from Sanction some years back in order to fortify the city of Palanthas and strengthen the borders of Solamnia. Palanthas has been under siege from minotaur ships for almost a year now, but is still held by the KoS. Dargarrd Keep has been rebuilt and fortified. A treatise has been in the making with the Dwarves of Thorbardin, but may falter due to the unforseen death of the Grandmaster.

The dwarves of Thorbardin have unified under a new king. Dwarven borders are being extended and refered to by many as New Kal-Thax. Pax-Tharkas is ruled jointly by the dwarves as well as refugee Qualinesti and Kagonesti.

The Knights of Neraka have been scattered across the continent. Most lead skirmishes and ambushes along unprotected provinces. Rumors of a massing in Sanction have begun.

The Red Rooster Inn (Solamnia)

As the evening draws near in the small town, businesses shut down for the day and most inhabitants make their way to the Red Rooster Inn at the end of town. The inn's propreitor, Felstus Delport, was once a Knight of Solamnia before retireing to the village of his upbringing. His crest in the knighthood, a rooster wearing a breastplate etched with a sycthe and a sprig of wheat, now adorned a sign hanging infront of the inn. Felstus was proud his time as a knight, as was indicated by the fournishings of the inn. Banners representing various campaigns decorated the walls, his sword and shield hung over the mantle of the fireplace, and finally a sign above the bar honored the knightly code, "Est Sularas oth Mithas", "My honor is my life".

Felstus stood behind the bar talking with patrons on the outlook of this years harvest, which looked prosperous, when a boy in his teens entered through the back door. Felstus noticing the boy, excused himself and made his way over to where he stood. "I posted in all the neighboring towns as you asked," said the boy. Felstus gave a smile as he handed the boy a small pouch. "There's a good lad, here's what I owe ya. Now go on home, fore your mother starts a worrying." With that the boy said his thanks and left the inn as Felstus returned to his conversation.

Later that evening, as Solinari's light shown through the windows of the inn, three hooded figures entered the inn. The sound of clanking armor could be heard as two of the figures aided the third to the bar. They approached the innkeep and spoke in low tones. Felstus nodded his head and handed the first a key. "All is ready." he said. "I'll send for you as soon as they've arrived and the inn is closed." The first figure nodded in agreement and the three made their way up the stairs to the inn's upper rooms. Felstus watched until they were out of sight and then turned his gaze back to the door. "Now they, if any, just have to show up." he muttered to himself.

Felstus takes a step back, kinda suprised by Elegost's words. Smiling he begins to wipe down the bar. "Oh yes, I'm in need of many things these days. More ale, more customers,...more steel," he says in the friendly demeanor of a innkeep. Looking up from his rag, he takes in the appearance of the two humans. Rangers he thinks to himself. "I say lads," he says leaning in to speak low. "You didnt happen by today because of the posted signs did ye?" Leaning back, Felstus pulls two glasses out from under the bar and fills them with ale. Pushing the glasses towards the two men, he speaks low again, "If ye did, this ale's free as well as a meal if your so inclined. Just tell the barmaid," he said indicating a girl waiting tables. "She'll tend to you. We'll be conducting business after hours," he said with a wink and began speaking in normal tones. "So please, have a seat and enjoy yourselves till then."

Elegost took out the sign he had taken down and read it. "Yes I'm here for that." Elegost went back to the table and sat next to Kendal. "Ale's free I hope you didn't pay for it already." Elegost took out the sign and showed it to Kendal. "That's what we're here for. We could help them emensly by doing this and since we have nothing else to do.. Let's just eat and drink our free meals and ale while they last." Elegost ordered himself a light dinner and refill of ale.

OOC- Hope no one minds if I join in...:)

name: Shira
race: human
weapons:carries none but excels at swordplay
appearance: long blonde hair, blue eyes, tall and willowly with an underlying streght.

IC- The door to the inn blew open and a gust of wind brought a bedraggled young human woman inside along with it. Shira struggled to shut the door as quickly as she could then turned to face the common room. Her blonde hair hung in unkept strings and her cloths were torn and dirty. When she saw that most eyes in the room were focused on her she strightened up and tried unsuccessfully to smooth back her hair. Shira walked slowly towards the bar, fearfull of being ordered back outside before she had a chance to explain why she was there. At first glance most took her to be a thief and /or a beggar, one would have to look closely to see the proud way she walked and her noble carriage. Once she reached the bar Shira smiled tentatively at the innkeeper "Excuse me Sir, it has come to my attention you require some assistance." she said softly and stared the man in the eyes " I came to volunteer my services."

Felstus watched as Shira made her way to him. He took in her appearance as she spoke to him. Once she had finished, he made a quick glance around the inn and noticed most eyes were on the girl. Smiling he returned his gaze to Shira, "Of course you did lass!" he shouted very jovial. "Your here to work in the kitchen. Thats great news for my old ears." he said coming around the end of the bar. "Here let me show you where everything is," he said placing his hand on her shoulder. As he walked her back to the kitchen, Felstus glanced back hurriedly. Satisfied that everyone was going about their own business, he began to speak low to Shira. "Sorry bout that my lady. But you had everyone's attention. Our business is best kept private. And I assure you that your services are greatly appreciated. We will be conducting said business after hours. If you dont mind the wait, please stay and have a meal on the house." he said courtly with a nod of his head, remicent of his days as a knight. "If you have need of anything just ask the barmaid. Now if you'll excuse me, I must get back to the customers." With another nod, Felstus opened the door for Shira so as to let her walk out first. Once both were out of the kitchen Felstus returned to the bar and filled a glass for fellow and himself. Taking a long swig, he sighed happily.

Kendal nodded his head. '' Yes a free meal and ale.'' Kendal ordered himself 3 mugs of their finest ale and a very hardy meal. After devoring his meal in a blink of and eye he swiged down one of the mugs of ale. He then removed his bow and tools and began to adjust it drinking the other two slowly and calmly.

Late into the night, Felstus announces the closing of the inn. The few patrons left finish their mugs and stagger out the door muttering to themselves about the tommorrows work and how it comes too early. Felstus greets the last one as he leaves and bolts the door behind him. After sealing the shutters on the windows, Felstus douses the lights until only the fire in the hearth is left. He turns to the three left in the room. "Sorry for the lack of light, but it's a very small town. The lower profile we keep the better." Making his way to the stairs, he wipes his hands on a rag and tosses it onto the bar. "I'll return shortly and the reason for so much secreacy will be revealed." With that Felstus heads up the stairs. A few moments later a knock on a door can be heard. Mumbled words are exchanged and Felstus soons returns down the stairs to the common room. He looks to each of the three in the room and nods, going to stand by the fire.
A moment later the clanking of armor can be heard as a man comes walking down the stairs. He appears to be in his mid thirties and by the etchings of his armor, a Knight of Solamnia. The knight steps into the light and surveys the room. Satified with what he see's he calls quietly up the stairs. Two more figures appear. One is another knight, but much older. The other is a woman of mature age, swathed in white, bearing the symbol of Mishikal. The old knight leads the woman to a chair seated next to Felstus and turns to face the three in the room. "My apologies for the wait. I am sure you have come far and are tired. I will keep you no longer than is nessecary. My name is Luther uth Duncan, Knight of the Rose, High Clerist to the Knights of Solamnia. This is my seneschal," he says indicating the younger knight, "Knight of the Sword, Darius Helmsguard. And this," he says turning to the woman, "is the Revered Daughter of Mishikal, Natrina Helmsguard." Luther pauses a moment and begins again. "Normally we would not travel in such conditions, but it is of the utmost importance that our being here is kept secret. And it as at the request of the Revered Daughter, that you were summoned here tonight. My lady." he says with a bow and a step back.
Lady Natrina nods as she looks to the three, "My husband, Damon Helmsguard, has always been a man held in high regard by the orders of the knighthood. He himself, was.. is a Knight of the Rose. But as of late, his behavior has not been in firm accordance with the Measure, the set of principles by which a knight's life is lead. About a month ago he abandoned his command in Palanthas and set about some quest..." she pauses looking to Luther. At that Luther picks up, "It is rumored that he has gone in search of the Chalice of the Triumvirate. An artifact said to have been used to annoint Vinas Solamnus as ruler of Solamnia. It is a holy artifact, rumored to instill the possessor with the courage of Habbakuk, the strength of Kiri-Jolth, and the wisdom of Paladine. Damon is a man possessed by the delusions of power. Should he succeed in obtaining such an item, it would mean disaster for knighthood." he stops allowing the three to take in his words.

Sira nodded to show she understood and without saying a word walked slowly to a shadowed corner of the common room and wearily sank down onto the comfortable chair. Leaning back she surveyed the room with steady eyes making sure her gaze did not linger on any one person for to long, some people were quick to take offense these days. When the barmaid approached with a flagon of ale Shira gestured it away " Please may I have some water and bread." she said softely, the look of the ale and the delicious smells of the food from the surrounding tables made her mouth water and her stomach growl however she knew that after not eating anything for the past four days if she tried to eat it she would be ill. Once the barmaid left to fetch the bread and water Shira once more took up her perusal of the room and her attention was caught by two men sitting at a table not far from her own, they were drinking, eating and making merry however she got the feeling her future was about to be entwined with theirs.

Shira had sat silently as the knight and the cleric spoke, listening to their words she tried to assimilate the impact it would have if nothing were done. Having once been a member of the knighthood and lived by the code, a sick feeling lodged itself in her throat and her eyes began to burn at the grim news the lady and knight imparted. Although no longer a part of the knights Shira knew she would do eveything in her power to see that the fabled Chalise did not fall into the wrong hands. Giving no hint to the thoughts running through her mind Shira stood up and proudly faced the Cleric of Mishakal and the Knight escorts " What would you have us do my lady?" she asked softly, altough her hair was stringy and dirty, her clothes torn, Shira's conviction shone from her clear eyes and told anyone who cared to look that once commited to this cause she would not give it up untill death claimed her.

OOC: Greeting DtD and Moz, both of you are welcome to join.

BIC: Before Luther could reply to either Shira or Elegost, a knock sounded at the door. "May I come in?" came a gruff voice. Drawing a dagger from his belt, Darius moved silently and swiftly to the door. Once in place, he indicated without words for Felstus to open the door. "Just a moment!" hollered Felstus as he pulled his sword from the mantle and went to the door. "By Paladine!" he called, feigning irratiblity. "It better be important to get me up at this hour." As he came to the door, he made a reassuring look to Darius, who nodded in return. Sliding back the bolt, Felstus swung open the door. At that instant Darius reached into the darkness and grabbed the man by the collar, dragging him into the inn, as Felstus slammed the door shut and bolted the latch. The man, who in the feint light of the room appeared to be a wizard of the red robes, found himself pinned to the wall, a dagger pressed to his throat. "Who are you sir wizard? And what business have you at my inn at this hour?" asked Felstus, brandishing his sword.

Name: Brabus Albuthson
Class: Barbarian
Race: Human
Weapon: Two handed sword
Bio: Left his home of Khormesh, on the Icewall Glacier at around the age of 35. Now lives in the same village as his trusted friend Felstus. Black curly hair, black beard, wears a chain mail vest. Not the smartest or most tactful person, but extremely strong, and loyal.

OOC: Calvillas, hope you dont mind me incorporating a little history between Brabus and Felstus, if you do, I can change his story. He's oafish and frustrating to deal with sometimes, but they have become good friends over the years.

IC: A massive hand closed around the Red Roosters door handle and gave a push, the door was locked. “Damn I could have sworn Felstus specified this time” Brabus muttered to himself. The huge barbarian knew his friend was expecting him at this meeting, so why had he locked up early? “Felstus, open up, its me” he boomed, in his best attempt at a whisper. Brabus had a feeling that Felstus would not be pleased with his tardiness, but he knew his friends frustration would soon pass……it always did.

The wizard went limp in Darius's grasp and his weight sagged to the floor. Lady Natrina sprang to her feet with a gasp. "Quickly," she said. "Bring him here by the fire." Both Darius and Felstus were hesitant a moment, but the insistant look on Lady Natrina's face was enough to cause both men to comply. As Lady Natrina knelt beside the mage, she began speaking soft and low. As her prayers went out to Mishikal, a soft blue light began to eminate from her hands. The mage's breathing became regular, the sweat dissappeared from his brow, and his body became relaxed. "He will be fine. He will awaken shortly refreshed of his burdens." said Lady Natrina. At that moment a creak in the planks of the stairs echoed across the silent inn. Luther turned drawing his sword in one swift motion. Darius lept to stand beside his lord. Felstus recogined the figure and motioned for them to lower their swords. "It's ok, he's a guest," he said to the two knights. "Oh Mr. Nuel," he feigned ignorance as he turned towards the newcomer. "I apologize if our noise was keeping you awake. Is there anything I can do since your up?" Before a reply could be made, a booming thud came at the door, followed by a deep resonating voice. Felstus shook his head, knowing the voice. "I wish the inn were this busy during the daylight hours," he muttered as he excused himself from Nuel and went to the door. Pulling back the latch, Felstus shot a scornful look at the big barbarian. "Get in here you big oaf." he said pulling him in. "By Paladine, can you never get anywhere on time?" Looking at Luther, Felstus said,"This Brabus sir, he'll be wanting to accompany the group for the Chalice. He's the one I told you about." Luther gave a nod and motioned for the barbarian to be seated along with the rest. Sheathing his sword, Luther looked at Nuel, "If you should like to stay, then have a seat. I will relate the tale once again, for those of you who have not heard it." Helping Lady Natrina to her seat, Luther spoke again of the Chalice of the Triumvirate and Damon Helmsguard. "Now to answer an early question, No Elegost. We do not want him dead. Damon is a Knight of the Rose and we shall treat him as such. Should you locate him, the knighthood request that you subdue him and return him to Vingarrd Keep so he may await trial. Also, should you find him in possession of the Chalice, then we request that it be returned as well. You shall all be handsomely rewarded for your efforts." Clasping his hands behind his back, Luther began to pace infront of the fire place. "Those of you who decide to go, shall first journey to Palanthas. We know Damon spent a considerable amount of time at the Great Library when not on duty. I suggest you begin your search for clue about his destination there." Stopping and facing the group Luther breathed deep, "You must be both quick and cautious. The city may fall to the minotaurs any day now. What say you?"

Brabus took a seat near the bar and motioned silently at the barmaid. Once he had her attention he lifted an imaginary mug to his mouth. Satisfied that his gesture had been understood he pretended once again to be interested in the matters that were being discussed. In reality, Brabus did not care for the "who's" and "why's", he enjoyed a good fight, and it had been years since his last. When his drink finally arrived he slipped the barmaid some coin. "Cheers petal" He said, and gave her a smile. Brabus took a swig of ale, wiped his beard, then sat back and waited to see which member of the group would accept the challenge first.

Luther nodded at Nuels' words. He had paused a moment, allowing enough time for everyone to make a descion, when another knock came on the door. "Who is it?" asked Felstus while motioning for everyone to remain still. A weary and bedraggled voice answered back. "I apologize for calling at such a late hour, sir," said the voice, "but is this the inn mentioned on the posted signs? I have come far and am tired. If it is not the proped inn, could you open for a room for the night?" Felstus gave a sigh and with a nod from Luther went to unlock the door. Felstus had been speaking as he moved, but stopped short once the door had been swung open. A sounding whoothe followed. Felstus turned to face the group, a look of awe on his face and a bolt sticking out of his chest. Felstus dropped to his knee's, looking at the bolt and then to Luther as if to say I'm sorry m'lord, I failed you. The assailant, a tall human with long black hair brandishing an empty crossbow, stepped through the door, kicking Felstus out of the way. Two more men of the same constitution stepped in, only their crossbows held bolts. The black haired human gave a devilish grin as he looked about the room. "Seems the reports from our spies were correct. I've caught the High Clerist without escort along way from Vingarrd." he laughed as he reloaded his bow. More voices could be heard outside, as well as the stomping of horses. "I figured your head alone would fetch a good price with the minotaurs, but now I think this Solamnic relic I ve listened to you squall about for an hour will fetch an even higher one. Too bad you wont be around to see it." he said as he loosed the bolt. The bolt caught Luther in the left breast, piercing his armor. Letting out a cry of pain, he clutched at the wound and fell backwards over a chair as Lady Natrina scrambled to his side. The assassain only laughed as he gave orders to his men, "Kill the wench and any others who resist. Those who submit will fetch a fair price on the Kothan slave ships." As he walked out of the inn, his shout to torch the inn could be heard followed closely by the thuds of torches on the roof and the smell of burning straw. One of the two henchmen still inside, drew forth a wickedly curved dagger and proceeded towards Lady Natrina, a toothless yet fiendish grin on his face.

Teren bolted in front of the lady. "Don't hurt her," he said softly, though he didn't exactly know why he was protecting the woman. "If you step any closer, I'll kill you." Teren had no idea how he was going to do that.

Hoping that he was well enough, the mage ran the familiar words over in his mind, at the same time flicking his wrist....

Kendal thouht fast he nodded quickly to his friend. Kendal Rapped the chain round his rist silently until it was the right length he gave a mighty swing of it once as the weight on the end came crashing into the toothless mans head with a great crack crushing he left side of his skull. He sapn quickly loading his bow raising and pulling its full length. " First of the lot of ya to move is a dead man." He hoped other would help he knew he could only kill one before the others would bombard him. His gauntlet began to glow dimly and slowy became brighter.

Elegost had two short swords out before you knew it. He charged swinging towards the leader of the them, quickly moving aside as his attack was blocked and countered. An assailant from behind hiding knocked out the short swords in his hands. Elegost quickly moved out of the killing blow's way and took out his gauntlet with a bare chain upon it. He wrapped it around the leaders neck. "Any of you move and your leader will die painfully. Just put down your weapons now.."

Darting her eyes back and forth between the men in the common room and the assassins at the door Shira knew there was little she could do to defend without a weapon, besides it seemed the men had everything under control so Shira quickly made her way to Lady Natrina's side. Shira looked to the Cleric " Best you start praying my lady. We have not much time." As Lady Natrina gathered herself together, Shira looked back over her shoulder into the common room, one of the assassins had made his way towards them with sword drawn. Shira stood to her full height and faced the man calmly, no emotion showing on her face. Before he could get far, he was engaged in swordplay and soon dropped to the floor injured. Quickly Shira grabbed the closest chair and drove the chair legs down upon him with all her strenght. Smoke was quickly filling up the common room as someone had set the inn afire. Shira took Lady Natrina's arm and quickly led her out of the burning inn.

OOC: Ok, I guess I didnt paint the scene that well. Please edit your post accordingly.

Inside the inn: The toothless henchman only scoffed at Teren's threat. Edging closer, he raised the dagger up in an arc to strike, but never finished the movement. With deadly swiftness, Kendal had dashed across the room and struck the man on the head with a length of chain. The sickening thud that followed, left the man dead before he hit the floor. Shira, who had moved to Lady Natrina's side, made sure he was infact dead by bringing a chair down squarely on the toothless man. In the equal swiftness Kendal, Elegost had drawn two short swords and managed to render the second man's crossbow useless. Dropping the crossbow and pulling forth a sword, the henchman and Elegost trade blows for several seconds, until a well placed kick in Elegost midsection had knocked the breath from his lungs and the swords from his hands. The henchmans victory was short lived as he found himself being lifted in the air uncontrollably. The inhuman screams of severe pain echoed from the henchman, before he went silent and fell to the floor in a crumpled heap. Nuel, finished with his spell, walked outside, his armor gleaming in the firelight of the thatch roof. Kendal and a recovered Elegost followed quickly. Several cloaked riders could be seen at the edge of town, heading in the direction of Palanthas. Several more were dismounting and brandishing swords. As the flames began to smolder higher into the air, Darius and Teren came out carrying an unconcious Luther. Shira aided Lady Natrina in getting out of the burning inn, as she was overwhelmed by all that had happened. Brabus came out carrying the lifeless body of his friend Felstus. As he laid the body on the ground, the shock of what happened wore off and fury began to rise in his blood. "You're outnumbered lad's," said one of the approaching men. "Surrender real nice like, and we'll give you the choice of dying here or on some minotaur slave ship. Which ever you'd prefer." he said with more than a bit of sarcasm in his tone.

Brabus laid his friend on the ground, tears swelled in his eyes. He was just about to remove the bolt from Felstus' chest when a harsh voice called to them...."You're outnumbered lad's". Brabus looked over his shoulder, two men were approaching and another half dozen were dismounting a few yards away. Brabus looked one last time at his friend then turned towards the men. Before the first man could stop chuckling at his own sarcasm, the giant barbarian's hand closed around his neck and lifted him off the ground. Brabus drew back his arm; the ensuing punch smashed the man's nose and left his face a bloody mess. Brabus released his grip and the unconscious body crumpled at his feet. Drawing his sword from his belt he now focused his attention on the other man. Brabus blocked the man’s first swing and countered by thrusting the butt of his sword into his chest. As the fiend was bent double, gasping for breath, Brabus drove his sword, down to the hilt, through the man’s back. Brabus bent down, grabbed the sword by the handle, and with his boot firmly planted on the man’s lower back, pulled. With his sword free he looked back at the others, then motioned in the direction of the remaining attackers “Whar ya's waitin fer”?

Nuel's eyes grew wide as he saw the men speeding his way with there swords drawn, he knew he must summon his greatest power to aid the men and women in the inn he ran out in front of the chargeing men he, then noticed the small spider walking fleeing from the inn he nelt down and stopped its passage, he chanted a long slur of words as the men charged towards the inn and himself, he then stood up and ran with his strength up the stairs and yelled" You better hurry on my friends i might have saved us but i might have killed us" he broke in a run down the stairs and ran down the road his armor and sword clapping each other. He glanced back to see his spell working the spider was growing amazingly large and was feasting on the on coming humans.......

Just as Brabus was about to take on the remaining henchmen he noticed the spider that Nuel had conjured. I ne'r seen a spider the size o’ a cat he thought to himself, it was only after a few seconds that the image sunk in. Sheathing his sword he ran back in the direction of Felstus, and with a tug, heaved his friend over his shoulder. Even if Lady Natrina could not bring him back, he would make sure his friend received a proper Solamnic burial. With his friend slumped over his shoulder he ran after the sound of clanking armor.

Teren nearly doubled over under the weight of Luthus. "How much further?" he muttered stupidly to Darius. "Shall we go to the slave ship or die honorably?"
