IC: Freezing rain and hail hit the city of Haven, the winds howl like a wolf howling at the moon, calling out in the darkness of the night. Civilians hide away in there homes closing the windows shutting their doors, avoiding the rain as it taunting them. The rain drops pounded very heavily on the rooftops, on the roads, forcing the unfortunate travelers finding their way to a nearby tavern while being impaled by the hail.

In the a tavern near the city gates much people stay avoiding the storm, most people cold and wet stayed near the fireplace attempting to consume the heat into their own. Others just drank the ale and ate their moods passing the time away, hoping the storm will stop.
Others mingle around discussing tall-tales about there ‘quests’. But very few were deep in thought about the storm.


OCC: Here’s the setting so far, so you could start in the Tavern or the outside in the storm. I will start this off after I have the people I need and time to plan. So it might be sometime next week.

Many things have happen since then… sometimes I wonder if I’m making the right decision. Sometimes I just feel like running away from it all. Perhaps running away is the only answer...


Chapter One


Howling of the ‘Storm’

A young man wearing a cloak rushed in the tavern hiding from the storm, the storm was getting much more dreadful as the howls of the wind grew stronger and wilder as glass windows were starting to shake. He removed his hood off and absorbed his surrounding
with his green eyes. Running his hand through his wet blonde hair, he took a deep breath and took a seat at a nearby table.

A young girl slumped in the mud next to the door of the tavern. the rain and lightning continued around her but she didn't care. Blood flowed freely from the cut across her belly where the unhappy shopkeeper she had tried to rob had cut her. As her life blood flowed out of her she noted a figure walking toward her. Weakly she made the only sound she had the strength left to make. She whimpered softly just before she passed out.

The young man waited with much patience at the table.
"Whats taking Sir Philandus so long?" he asked himself.
"Maybe he's off somewhere flirting with some lady in another tavern." he took off to the door outside in to the storm again. Then notice a young girl nearly the same age as him on the ground. He check her and notice her wound.
"Oh no.. what a awful wound. You need help fast!" he took off his cloak and warped it around her covering her form the cold rain. He pick her up in her arms and quicky made to the nearest church down the corner. Noticing it was a church of Mishakal
He opened the door.

"I need help!" he called out.

Description: Short, medium build. Unruly black hair, worn, weather beaten skinn. He dresses in dark greens and blacks. With a grey cloak. He is always in the company of a reddish timber wolf.

In the distance was a building on the side of the road. He peered at the building ahead, blinking away the rain. He thought for a moment, "It seems the trail leads here, yes?" The wolf beside him nuzzled his leg, and then turned to look at the building with his friend. "The bastard wants us to follow him, so we follow." Parintachin stepped forward onto the road leading to the Inn, "Hie, Steel, follow." As the two walked, he scratched the head of the wolf, eyeing the other buildings in town. As they closed in on the Inn, Steel looked back at Parintachin. "Hie, Steel, what do you see?" He looked down at the road, he saw a man grab a woman from the ground and run towards a church. He looked down at the wolf. "Do we follow, yes?" Steel trotted towards the church, Parintachin close behind.

Mina groaned and snuggled into the warmth. The blood was pouring faster now, gushing from inside her. Her breath came in ragged gasps. She was too weak to even hold her head up. "So cold..." she muttered as the chill feeling of death began to creep into her body starting at her feet and working up.
Her eyes opened slowly. "Don't...let...me...die." She panted between spasms of pain. Her crystaline blue eyes filled with tears as she kept her gaze focused on the man holding her.

He watch as she saw tears run down her blue eyes. His eyes water as well when she beg him not to let her die.

"Cleric! Damn it.. I need a cleric," he called out.

The girl squeezed her eyes shut against the pain and reached her free hand, the one not holding her guts in, into her pocket. She pulled out the item she had risked her life to steal, a small silver cup. "Water." she said softly,holding the cup up to him.

The young man gently put her down, grabbed the cup from her hand and filled it up with the water with his water skin. Resting her head on his shoulder he gently lifted the cup for of water to her mouth and tried to let her drink it.

She looked around the empty church. "Yes sir- i mean Altamaru, i'm just used to calling everyone that." She made a face and pressed her hand back over her wound as another spasm of pain shot through her. "Even those hated mages." She whispered under her breath.

Philandus saw the inn in front of him, he walked in as he was meant to be meeting Altamaru a squire and he was running slightly late; but he was a knight the squire can wait. Philandus walked in and saw that Altamaru wasn't there, he went to the bar and preceded to talk to the attractive bar maid.

The tavern was busy on nights like this. Drenched travellers came in looking for shelter from the downpour and staying to drink away the chill of their damp cloths. Charlette had run off her feet all evening but it was starting to slow down so she thought she might sit for a minute. This was not her idea of easy money but until oppertunity knocked, this would have to do.
She was just purching herself on a barstool when a knight aprroched her. She hadn't seen him before. She was sure of that. "Hello, and what brings you to Haven, sir knight?" She smiled.

Philandus looked her up and down, his first thoughts were carnal thoughts, but he noticed something was different about her than most of the ladies he had seen. "Hail theif", he smiled as he recognised the build, personality and the type of clothing, whenever he saw a theif his mind would travel back to his dear friend Erwin; who had for a time gone into thieving. "I am very sorry, but I have nothing to steal, except my longsword and flail. Oh what I am saying, I've forgotten my manners. Lets start again shall we, hail my name is Sir Philandus Knight of the Sword, I don't suppose you have seen a squire in here by the name of Altamaru?"

Charlette through her hed back and laughed. "Sir Philandus, you assume the worst of me. I have no interest in what's in your pockets nor your purse. As long as you tip well, that is all that interests me tonight." She walks around behind the bar and fulls a mug of ale and places it infront of him. "I like you, so this ones on me. About your squire; there was a young man who took shelter here for a few moments earlier this evening but before I could take his order he left."

Parintachin and Steel stopped outside the Church. "No Steel." Steel coughed and followed Parintachin back to the Inn. The two barely noticed the storm as they came to the Inn door. Parintachin looked down at Steel, "Hie, Steel, let us go inside." He opened the door, and let Steel thru first, and then he entered and slammed the door shut. He eyed the interior then decided upon a seat by the fire. "Hie, Steel, let us warm ourselves." Parintachin and Steel walked over to the Hearth and set down to be served. He ruffled Steels head and then gave him some jerky. "Thirsty?" He poured some water in his hand, then eyed the Inn again, noticing the Knight at the Bar, he singed up his Leather coat.

Philandus smiled picked up the ale and drank from it, "Where did he go? Outside? Any Direction?" He heard the door open he turned around wondering if it was Altamaru. It was a man with a wolf by his side, Philandus turned back and said, "Do you know where he could have gone?"

Charlette watched the large dogand his master take a seat next to the fire then turned back to the knight. She shruged her shoulders,"I didn't see which way he went. Like I sayed he was here then he was gone. And with the storm being as bad as it is, the taverns farther in town won't be open. We'd be closed too if we weren't already packed. Can I get you something to eat?"

Parintachin listened to the conversation. "Aye, you think, yes?" He looked down at Steel, gnawing on a bone a barmaid brought. Steel coughed and looked up into Parintachin eyes. "So be it." He got up, Steel following, and walked over to the Knight and Lady. "Are we well-met, Sir Knight?" He smiled, revealing fangs.

Philandus turned towards the man, and instead of being shocked or intimidated by the fangs, he was curious. "Hail traveller, come in to get out of the storm?"

Parintachin shrugged his shoulders. "I am seeking some one, as you do." He said. He rubbed Steels head against his thigh. "I believe the one you look for is at the Church, yes?" Steel coughed and looked first at Parintachin then at the Knight. "Aye, Steel also thinks this as well." He glanced briefly at the woman then back at the Knight.

"Oh thank you sir," he said to the man. He turned towards the woman, "Where is the church, and could the squire have gone over there?"

A shiver ran up Charlettes back when the man looked at her. She smiled politely anyway.
"There is a church of Mishakal not far from here."
Charlette looked around. The other barmaids were keeping up with the orders just fine. She removed her apron and walked around to the front of the bar. "If you would like I can show you the way?"

[Calus]

Philandus stood up, "Thank you again sir, let us go then young wench, actually what is your name?" he said walking out the door.

[Aspen]

Charlette pulls her cloack off the hook by the door and drapes it over herself as she exits with the knight.
The rain still pummeled the city of Haven and she was insently soaked to the bone. It was hard to see through the down pour. Charlette took the knight by the arm and led him down the street towards the church.
"My name's Charlette." She yealed over the howling wind and thunder.

Philandus saw Charlette struggling in the rain, he stopped and picked her up in his arms, There you go, we can hear each other better now, where is the church Charlette?" Philandus still walking down the muddy road, with his boots squelching and the pinging of rain off his plate mail. Philandus had never quite got use to the plate mail as well as the longsword, he got a blacksmith to customise the armour so that it was lighter and more flexible ( for example cutting bits of metal off around the joints) so he could swing and bash with his flail in relative ease.

"It just over there. On the corner." She pointed the way. The white building seemed to glow in the light of the endless lightening.
"We better get in out of this storm before your armor works like a lightening rod and we both get fryed." Charlette said as she pulled her cloak up around her so he wouldn't trip on it.

[Calus]

Philandus walked in through the door and placed Charlette onto her feet, "Altamaru are you in here?"

[Heron]

Parintachin watched the the knight and woman leave the comfort of the Inn to brave the storm. Steel coughed as he walked towards the door then returned. "Hie, wulfbunde, should we follow?" The wolf, looked at the door, then back at his master. "The one we seek must be near." Steel eyed Parintachin, giving no answer. Pulling out a rod and lash, the wolf walked towards the door, entering into the storm. Lightning dazzled the eyes and thunder deafened the ears. "We must be watchful, Steel." Parintachin patted the wolf, as the headed towards the church.

"I guess this is for the best. The storm is getting wilder, its safe if you stay here for the night Lady Mina. And a nice warm meal sounds nice."
He then drew a chair from the table for Mina.
"My lady," he bowed slighty.

Mina smiled shyly and took the offered seat. "Please just call me Mina. I'm no lady and probably never will be."

Cassandra comes out of the kitchen a moment later, with about two carts filled with food. She takes it all off and places everything on the table. There is everything you can think of to eat and drink. She smiles at the spread proud of herself "Eat up, eat up. Enjoy." She starts shoveling food onto their plates infront of them.

Just then she hears someone else enter and call out "Excuse me I will be right back." She rushes off to the enterance to see a Knight and a woman standing there "Welcome, is there anything I can help you with Sir Knight?"

He stumbled over this word, a slight smile played across his face. Steel yawned and settled down. Parintachin reached down and petted him on the head, between the ears. "Aye, let us wait, yes?"

She then turns to the strange man she had just let in "Well how can I help you stranger with the strange eyes?" She says starting to laugh nervously again "My what a beautiful animal." She says trying to peel her eyes off of him and onto something else.

Steel coughed, then walked over to the Cleric, sat. Whined. "He likes you. Pet him. Here." Parintachin rubbed the back of Steels head as he eyed the priestess.

"Hmm, cannot say I have heard of him." Cassandra jumps back when she see the teeth "Um well, shelter." She looks down at the wolf that came over to her, she bends down and reaches out a hand and rubs the side of his face "Steel is that your name, you seem to be very nice. And your master is a little bit scary but I should not judge a book by its cover so.. Yes. Yes you may have shelter here also, there is already a group forming so the more the merrier." Still petting Steel, she smiles up at Parintachin catching his eyes "My name is Cassandra, what shall I call you?"

Parintachin smiled at the Knight and Barmiad from the Inn as they followed Cassandra into the Eatery of the Church. "Well-Met, all." he said, sitting down nearby on the floor to rub Steel down. He watched everyone as they ate, occasionally whispering in Steels ear.

I have given all of you food and shelter, and it was ment for all of you at the same time. I do not care what that boy did or if he was rude, you should have taken care of that later. It was rude of you to have taken care of it in front of all of us, and to think you are a Knight." She puts her nose up at him.

Mina, hearing the door to the church slam for what she would have sworn was the fiftieth time got up and went to the window to check it out. She had a little trouble pushing out the shutters because of the strong wind but when she finally did she saw the soldiers approaching. 'My god, not now.' she thought miserably.
Silently she grabbed a dark cloak that was much too big for her that she had found in a trunk. She pulled it on and checked to make sure she had all of her weapons before climbing out the window and stealing off into the night.
She heard them ask the kind priestess about her over the howling wind as she ran through the storm. She wrapped the cloak tighter around herself as the gale got stronger. Her only hope was to make it out of town before sunrise otherwise she was as good as dead.
She rested, tired from shivering and running, under a small cart in the center of town. Her wound ached horribly but she made no sound. As she rested she wondered what the gaurds had done to the people in the church. She hoped they were okay.
Footsteps interrupted her musings. She backed as far into the shadows as possible and held her breath as booted feet stopped right in front of her hiding place. She prepared herself to spring, cluching one of her knives in her fist. She would be free or die trying.

"Hold, ladyfriend." he said to the barmaid. "Hie, Steel, lead on." The wolf fast stepped, sniffing the ground as he followed the clerics path, Parintachin behind him. As the pair left the room, he pulled a dagger out. "I agree Steel, this could prove to be to our benefit." Steel paused at the door, then coughed. "Hie, Steel. When I open the door, jump, yes?" He reached for the door, pulling it open quickly. Steel leaped outside...

Charlette took very little interest in the yealing at the front door. The youth that just slipped out the window peaked her interest much more. After everyone had left the dining room to aid the cleric, Charlette slipped out the window.
The girl wasn't hard to follow. Charlette came around a corner and saw the youth hiding under a cart on the oppisite side of the street. There was a person crouching down infornt of the cart, extending there hand to her. Weather they were friend or fow, Charlette didn't know. She slipped into the shadows of a large tree, and retreived a throwing knife from the harness on her thigh and readied herself to throw if the girl needed aid.

Philandus heard the racket at the door, he stood up and walked outside. "Hey dare you threaten the cleric of Mishakal! You call yourself worthy to even set eyes on the church? I am warning you now, you will never step over this threshold." Philandus swang his flail gently backwards and forwards, the rain pining off the metal ball at the end.

Parintachin had no qualms to call him to heel like the Knight. In the same moment that the mercenary snapped his fingers, He threw a dagger into the throat of one, then with a snarl, leaped at another. "Hie, Steel, kill!" Steel was as fast if not more so than Parintachin. With the strength of his species, he snarled and went for the throat of another, missing and latching onto a shoulder. He bit down then started to shake his head, ripping flesh and spraying blood and saliva.

Philandus moved quickly, he swung his flail, catching one of the men on the jaw, he didn't want to kill them, not until they showed real intent on killing. "Again I warn you, stay back on we will kill the lot of you."

"Don't worry about the others. Break your way through!" Montague yelled drawing out his sword.

"Fine then you have chosen", Philandus swung his flail and caved a man's skull in. Bone, brain and blood exploded out from the impact. He flipped his flail around and whipped it around to wrap arounda sword that was coming for his body, he easily pulled the sword out of the man's hands.

IC: Altamaru made his rounds around the street. He was wet and cold and decide to head back to the church. When he notice a figure under a cart at the center of town, wondering he decide to look. He walk to the cart and extended his hand out...

Cassandra quickly backed up to the door of the church not wanting to get into the middle of this, if she only had a way to get to the guards there wouldn't have to be any death tonight.

Cassandra then remembers her training, she closes her eyes and lower her hand putting her hands together in prayer. Moments later this white mist appears over the group who are fighting, a calming effect comes over them. The anger and the hate and rage dwindling.

Many didn't believe us, but the other knights spoke to him and he openly confessed, he said "I am not afraid of what you can do to me, there is a greater power." I had assumed it was the Knights of Takhisis, but it seems to be the Vigil Seven.
"I think we should find out anymore information from them both and also find our girls, the Vigil Seven was after one of them, I think it was Mina they are after, but itis best to get them back, but also we need Altamaru."

In his hand, he held a simple, plain steel coin. He spoke faster as he placed the coin into his left hand. The words seemed meaningless. He placed his right hand over the coin, and then removed it. In its place were two coins. Still chanting, he placed the coins over the eyelids of the sleeping mercenary. Steel gave a low growl and as on cue, Parintachin released the spell:

I have no idea what the Vigil Seven wanted with Lady Mina... but I have a feeling that this has something more than this. I hope I'm strong enough to deal with these people. But will I have to use 'power'? We decide to discuss this at the chruch....

To free my family i have to find and bring her all of the pieces to this silver set." She pulled out the small cup and put it on the table. "The Seven are chasing me because of the curse. Every night when Lunitari shines full i must drink the blood of another human to stay alive. if not for those i must save, i'd gladly die and be free of my guilt for the lives i must take. The Seven want to use me to find the mage and kill her but i'm under a spell so that when they ask me, i'll die." She hung ger head in shame. "Go ahead, kill me. It would be an act of mercy." She twisted the ring on her finger, one set with a ruby that must never fall into the wrong hands.

She reaches out a arm where sits a bracelet not much different from the ring Mina has and places it gently on Mina's arm "I am willing to do what I can for you and keep you away from the Vigil seven, but there is one thing I ask of you if I do help you. Are you willing to accept my help?"

She goes in an kneels at the front, and prays eventually falling asleep where she is. Her dreams are filled with pretty normal stuff until the end where she all of a sudden in a dimly lit room, on a bed. Someone had just bent over her to kiss her, right after she turns to see a helm it is one of a dragonhighlord it has colors of red on it.

She is startled awake by this, breathing fast a bit scared. She has had this dream more then once and it always made her react like this. So please get some rest all of you, for I think we will all need it in the end." She says trying to move the conversation away from herself.

Charlette hid in the shadows as the cleric and the girl left the kitchen. Well this was much more interesting than anything that had happened at the tavern. After the two ladies were out of sight, Charlette decided that this would be agood time to take a look around. She made her way through a few rooms. Nothing cought her eye till the third room. It was the same as the first two, but had a veiw of the street. In the shadow of a large oak tree, she cought sight of someone watching the church. And also from the alley way... and and hiding in a dark doorway three doors down. She kept to the shadows of the room and scanned the street for more. She counted 9 in all.
Suddenly Charlette felt very alone and a tiny bit scared. She made her way back to the group and found a alcove to curl up in, not to far from where Parintachin and Steel where resting.

He stood in a marble room. Beside him was a platnium throne which he assumed someone once sat. Candles were still burning from earlier this evening and each candle he looked at became a pale face. the faces had no flesh and no eyes. They all looked like skulls. These were the people he killed.

They looked at him with hollow, dark sockets. "Whisper to me know more, " Said Parintachin. "I am what I am."

One by one the faces sneered at him and turned away. But the last of them, a skull of a elf, tattered hair yellow with age, whispered a single word before it faded away.

"Seek within yourself," it said. The candles flickered, dropping darkness into the room from wall to wall.

There were bodies near him, skeletons of elves and humans, and Parintachin sat by the nearest. The skeleton was the color of ashes. He grabbed a thigh bone and felt a chill. Its her, thought Parintachin. Not an elf. Its only her...

Parintachins eyes fluttered open. He was cold, so very cold.

She puts a hand up to her cheek for she felt something on it she takes it away and looks at her fingertips they are wet. She then realizes she is crying, putting both hands up to her face she sobs into them as she kneels to the floor.

OOC: This is where she will be until someone finds her or morning comes. She falls asleep after crying.

Mina had heard the whole thing but fortunatly for her she was good a feigning sleep. It was no big surprise that she had only recieved a small burn after having her hand in the fire, her curse took care of little things like that. that was the perpose of the blood sacrifice.
She looked at the hand that Maru was holding, the one with her ring. She thought of the birthmark on that palm. it filled her whole hand and was shaped like a flame. her mother had always told her to keep it hidden and never let a mage see it. it felt a bit odd to have another person touch that mark but as long as he didn't see it she didn't mind.
The squire looked a bit cold in his damp uniform, so quietly, like the thief she was, she slipped away and found a spare blanket. With lightfingered hands she tucked the warm blanket around Maru before silently climbing back into bed. She clasped his hand between hers before drifting off to sleep.

Charlotte moved unnoticed, climbing the tree in silence. He was impressed. The person disappeared in a black mist, gagging Charlotte. Unsettled she jumped down and addressed Parintachin shadow. Smiling, he stepped off the church porch and walked up behind her.
“A valiant effort, Barmaid or is it something more?”
His topaz eyes glittered in the darkness. Steel looked up and coughed, then set down to scratch.

The dream....

A young boy stood in a glassy field, his eyes closed and his body tense.. the near sunset and he be standing there in the same place from sunrise. Cold sweat run down his face and he fell to his knees.
"I can't do it brother.." he looked a man across from him. "I just can't do it Ledin... I can focus hard enough.."
Ledin stared at his younger brother and smiled at him.
"Altamaru.. that is your problem you focus to hard. In order to draw spirital energy around you must open up your own soul."

"Its how we, the Theodore family, have power."
"But I but this power feels..... cold brother Ledin I do not want to sure power if it feels cold."
"A Devoted Protector is hard to be. Our job is make tainted souls pure again."
Altamaru stood up and looked at the sunset and then smiled.

Ledin stared at his younger brother then frowned at him.
"The evil goes in us. Locked away. Its the only way make souls pure again. Listen Altamaru you may not be my brother in blood.. but we are in sprirt. You must control evil in yourself and never yet evil control you. If it calls out to you ingnore it. You will suffer as you grow up because evil is always inside you... this is the way of the devoted protector. Do you understand?

Cassandra was having the dream again with the Red Highlords mask staring at her from the table beside her bed, no matter how much she tried she could not wake up though or turn away. But a moment later, a white light flashes insides it mouth then flashes again engulfing her.

Everything is white around her and a beautiful woman dresses in clerics robes is standing there, concern written on her face "Cassandra if you leave, I will not be able to protect you from that which haunts you. I know you are upset, I know you felt comfortable with Parintachin around. But his darkness doesn't belong here or with you. It is wild and dangerous, do not be fooled by his goodness. The world is very different from in here, I will be with you. I shall not turn their back on you, not even if you turn your back on me. Make your decision, but be willing to take the consaquinces of it. I shall be here for you my child." Light engulfs her and then Cassandra wakes up on the floor. She sits up, then stands "What a night." She mumbles to herself.

She then walks out to were Mina and Altamaru, just stoping at the door to watch him put the blanket around her. Cassandra stomach clenches at watching this, either it being because she was lonely or because she misses it happening to her.

With a sigh, she looks over to the still standing but sleeping knight. She walks over and tries shaking him awake.

"Well lets go then", Philandus took Cassandra's arm and led her out of the temple; the rain and wind had ended, the night was calm and still. They started walking around the square outside, "So lady cleric, why did you choose Mishakal?"
