Hello all:)

This has been on my mind off and on for a while. The question is: do you read other people's rping threads that you are not in? If so: what attracts you to a thread? The title? The creator or the players? What about the planning threads? Do they have any effect on which ones you choose to read? Do any lerkers read the rping threads?(this would be a great time to say hello;) )

For myself, I do read a few but find if I don't start reading them when they are still newer threads, I get overwelmed easily. I find that even though I don't have as much time to rp as I once did, it's a great way to see the different way people rp and even different writing styles. I'm also interested in some of the smaller threads. I LOVE threads that take their time. Long, well writen posts, that go into great depth about everything around them, with characters that feel more than anger or sadness.

Well, those are my to cents *toss them into the pot* ;)

Howdy,

Yip yip, I am one to go and read other threads. As to what attracts me to them, its a combo of the title, creator, and players. And yes the planning thread has an affect as to whether I read or not, it gives me some idea of what the story is and I know whether or not it would be something that would interest me. :)

I read some threads I'm not in as well. I think what attracts me to a thread is reading the planning or the first few posts to see if it's a plot I'd enjoy. Whether or not I keep reading it depends on the writers and how well the develop their characters. I'm not a big fan of static characters. ;)

I agree with Aspen. I like long, detailed posts that convey more than the run of the mill surface emotions. I'm very much the kind of person who likes to be able to get into a character's head and put myself into their environment. I'm also drawn to writers who can get a laugh out of me with their character's antics or some well placed similies/metaphors.

The title and the creator usually are what grasp my attention. I don't read them as much as I would like though, seeing as my time is far to short as it is to post and read my own threads. But I do enjoy studying up on other writing styles, their character devolpement, their planning and how they create their enviroments and such....

I visit a lot of the threads, and I do follow some of them. If it has a good story and well written posts, then I won't mind sitting down and reading it. I also like threads that are very detailed and have unusual characters. However, I only do that if I get into it if the thread is fairly new and if it's a slower thread, otherwise I either get way behind or don't know whats going on.

Simple answer: Yes, I read other threads. :)

I read other rp threads once in a while. Usually when nobody is doing anything on the WHOLE forum.

The title is what usually attracts my attention but I use my mouse slowly so the preview thingy pops up and I read what I can, even if the title may be a bit bland. Also I'm just curious about what everybody's doing.

I do read other threads from other times....I try to stay away from anything with Archangel21 in it, he just really sucks :D

Seriously though, I do have threads I read, usually it is based off of the people in the thread. Especiailly when I am planning a thread and want to invite someone, I'll read the threads they are part of

As AA21 had stated, I too read other's threads just to find good RPers to invite in my own. I tend to stray from those who only post oneliners. There's quite a few that, even though have yet to RP with, I will be looking forward to inviting later on. Including you, Aspen. ;)

Of course I do. That is the only way to attract new and wet-behind-the-ears-goody-two-shoes for my evil-inclined and perfectly immaculate characters to ravage and destroy. What better way to line up the unsuspecting than spying from afar.

And I will continue doing this far into the future. So be careful what you and yours do and say.

Hey. Great point you made Aspen :)

It all depends on who is hosting the thread, as well as the name and the "blurb," of the thread should we say.

If someone is hosting a thread and have already got some threads active, then either the storylines in those must be interesting, unique and original; or else something must be attractive about them.

Also, the name is always important to me. A thread has to have an original name, without one, in my opinion then even if the story is good; because you can't "edit," names of threads, it will always look a little... should I say... boring?

And finally, the storyline itself. It's great when people have set storylines for threads, but I always think if the threadmaster allows for some "bending of the rules," and allows other people to create their own storylines, it adds a new depth to story [well, I think it does!]

I'd like to read other threads - there seems to be some epic ones out there - but the ones I would most like to read are ones that would take me ages to catch up on. And sometimes I barely have time to read the ones I'm in!

Maybe I should start dipping in to a couple every day, like a soap! :D

While it's been a while since I brought this topic up and there seem to a great deal of new rpers on the boards so I will ask the question again:

Do you read threads you are not involved it? Which ones have you found enjoyable? and what draws you to a thread you are not yet involved in?

i don't. A lot of them are written with way too much melodrama and flourishes and crazy overblown language that turns me off. I understand and appreciate that there are many people who enjoy such things, but its just not my style.

Key of Destiny, in fact, is the first time i've ever even participated in one of these things, and that's only cause i know it's a well defined plot.

Sadly, I've found that I really don't read any that I'm not involved in anymore. :(

to answer your question Aspen, I have read a few of the threads that I have not belonged to. Originally it was because I was new and did not know if I would be able to jump into a thread, not knowing how often new threads are created here. Now I'm involved in three threads on the boards. (which will probably be my limit for now). However I do still check on a couple of the threads I started reading when I first got here.

as to what got me reading them, I guess I just like a good story, and there are plenty of great tales I've seen here on the boards. :)
