I have just thought of this, so if this doesn't sound right then you know why. I have this great idea, newbies find it hard to join new threads; well I did.
The idea of this thread is to post wether you want anymore people joining your thread or don't mind if they join. Then the newbie (or you, depending if you are the newbie or not) can then send a private message to that person asking to join.
Of course you don't have to be a newbie and are looking for a new thread to write in this is for you as well.

Well I might as well start

I would like someone to join:

Draconia: this is about draconians and their rebellion againist other draconians. Can be any race.

Don't mind if they joined:

Tides have Turned: This is about sea elves and a war againist Sahaugin. Mainly sea elves please.

Mercenaries Needed: This is a job in Qualinesti to kill a black dragon (not Sable) that is close to an elven settlement. Any character.

There you go remember to PM the person and say which thread you wish to join. It is a good idea to read the thread or the end parts as it can be long, although in my case you can ask me about my threads and I can give you a brief overview.

Hopefully this will work.

Seems complicated...Why not state in the opening of your thread the guidlines to your PbP game...stating open or closed for openings...

The idea is that, like Draconia (started off with about 6-8 people and now 123 posts later it is down to 2) and other threads, are that people have left and the storyline isn't finished, but they have ended on about 100 posts, if you were a newbie would you sit through all the posts? When you could look somewhere and it is all there for you.

Eh, I like the idea...

I would like a few people to join my thread "Moving On." It will be a little more difficult to incorporate you now, but it won't be that hard, and that thread currently only has 5 players, I think I would like between 6-8.

It is a group of people leaving from Pax-Tharkas, because the city has started politically and physically crumbling. They have decided to move on to Solace, and possibly bigger and better things from there? It is set Post-WoS. Just your basic adventure thread...

Anyone is welcome to join my thread A New Dawning...right now there are only 2 for sure ( possibly 4 ) and it is getting hard to keep the thread going with only myself and one other posting....instead of reading all the posts basically we a Kagonesti elf, a human Solamnic Knight and 2 kender and we are following a band of dark knights that has destroyed a Kagonesti village, we won the battle with a few injuries, the knights are gone but are being followed , and we have just been captured by elves from another village....you don't have to pm, just jump right in!

Scratch that...I just killed the thread by having a dragon squish us...the thread died and rather it waste away, I decided to let it go with a bang.

However anyone is welcome to join my new thread "Follow your footsteps..."

heres an odd thought...we have a couple threads going, with 2-3 people posting in them....why not form a survey...or a commitee....and everyone join on in an EPIC thread...then branch off as needed, opening threads for others. ie. Thread Prime: The Road to the Garner mountain, 15 posts later...two others join, so the DM(s) open another thread that deals with them joining into the EPIC thread or a side scene thread that is connected to the main thread but deals only those individuals in the side scene....

That is a good idea, but I am afraid there is a vital flaw in that plan, usually people join singuarly it is only rare that two people join at once. So if that was to happen there would be lots of threads with only two people in it or only one person. Which like the other threads will die out.

hmmm it can be done...with a plan...a pbp called MRC does this daily and has been doing PBP for at least 4 years now....

i like the idea of an epic thread with as many people as possible but there should be limitations like one or two posts a day and a seperate one or just pm for ooc cause im sick of reading a thread after missing a few days and having to read a page full of pointless ooc that are a line long and say "whats going on i cant be bothered reading what i missed" that is what kills threads that and a few other points ill hold onto now

my blood of heroes has gone beter than my other threads cause it has limits and the writer post more than one line and put some depth into it.

if a epic thread is started i would join but as soon as it pisses me off i would loose interest. but i recomend one is started and saying that i think a charater thread for this epic thread should be done so that every one can write up a new charater. and only post charaters in it not one charater post then a dozen posts saying "nice charater mate".

right sorry everyone, could you move all of your wanted posters to the other thread, this thread can stay open to discuss the Epic thread. It won't take long a good old copy and paste. :D

P.S. no rubbish in the other thread, Shugi says it can be stuck at the top permanently if no one fill sit with rubbish.

Right lets discuss this Epic thread then people:

We have the rules placed by Sticko, one or two posts a day, no OOCs PM each other.

Anyone wanna add any more rules please post. Heron could you tell us a bit more about this thread in MRC so we can get a better idea of it please.

Oh and the other important thing is a storyline, has anyone any ideas, or anyone wanna control the storyline?

Okays Ill lay out a rough outline:

A. A "council" of DM's must be formed with input from those that want to play, will form a story that will act as the core campaign. When a story is worked out, guidelines must be created. Such as what types of classes, races, etc are allowed, number of posts per week to be allowed to remain in the campaign, etc.

B. Once the "core" stuff is put in place with "Core" players, the council then must institute a level of control. A "newbie’s" thread. Those new to the campaign that wants to enter on the "core" campaign must first play here. In MRC, we use the "newbie’s" thread to train players, bring them up to speed, and play mini-scenarios, etc until they are in par with the "core" players. Now as the "core" campaign grows it may be branched out with each branch headed by a GM appointed by the council. This allows growth and choices that "new" players may opt to play in a branch instead of the core campaign.

That is all I have time for now. Ill post more later tonight or tomorrow.

okay i like the ideas from heron so far but they seem to get a little complicated for those who just want to play the newbies thread would be masive and put them of i know i only join a thread when its 2 pages long.
its true we need some form of council to run the games that link to one story proberly a leader of each of the threads. this of cause can change when the person tires of it etc.

i think a charater thread should be started intitled Epic Roleplaying Charaters where each person enters a charater for the Epic storyline one charater per person no none charater posts and this should be to a format better than name race gender i have a magic sword and im the best mage ever. the charaters should be new and i dont mean you invent new charaters they can be egsisting ones just the story will be based at the start of there lives NOT EVERY CHARATER WAS BORN A SUPER HERO. it would be nice to see flaws in charaters that is what DL is all about take Rasit he was powerfull but weak and seaked only to better himself he was a charater with real depth. a true master piece in my view and though i dont like the charater i love the way he is writern.

and my request is that the story is set after the war of the lance but befor the choas wars as every one should know the time frame and what its like in it.

Well if we do a newbie thread I think it should be about training an army up, cos this is like real-life, we are training these people up to post in the league of the core roleplayers. It just feels apt.
We could have a thread for wizards, them learning magic and casting spells.
Elven rangers/archers can be trained in some kind of forest.
It could be cool if we can make the threads a bit fantasy and a bit real advice. Like a newbie posts, 'He lifted his bow and arrow up to the target, drew back the string and the arrow hit the target dead centre." My thoughts is that is ok, but they could do better so then I would post, "Antinus took the bow off the elf and said, "this is how it is done." Antinus fitted an arrow to his bowstring, he quickly brought the arrow level with his eye and looked along it to see the tip of the elf's arrow, withen a breath he had drawn the bow string back and let go with startling speed. The power from the bow coursed through into the arrow, the arrow sped closer to the target swivelling and cutting it's way through the air. With splinters reaching a three metre radius, Antinus' arrow had obliterated the elf's and now Antinus's arrow stood proudly in the center."
A bit like that so it as a training thread for newbies, but also within the storyline it is training there as well.
